    I had kept up with kefer grains for a while before we moved to another state. You've convinced me that I need to get grains again.

    I don’t wash my jar or change to a clean jar. Just put my grains back in the same jar and add more raw milk. The bacteria left in the jar helps the new batch ferment even better! And, I always do a second, 2 hour ferment before I refrigerate my new kefir. It has even more good bacteria and yeasts in it and it tastes better. Milk kefir is delicious and so good for your health!

    Thank you so much for this video. I was always going to jump into kefir making, but never did. This gave me the push to do it. We are now enjoying kefir daily!! I'm doing a second ferment with maple syrup and raspberries. So good!!

    I love milk kefir and use to make it all the time, but I have quit drinking milk and using dairy. However, I may re-introduce it to my diet because I did not realize it helps with allergies. I would love to see if that would help me with allergies! Thanks for this video!

      My daughter has a dairy sensitivity and she does great on kefir, so it became a daily part of my routine so that she could enjoy the same treats we did! She loves it, luckily she loves sour flavors:) I find it also enhances the sour flavor in my sourdough treats!

    I've been fermenting keifer since last September, I got my grains off Etsy, and I have really enjoyed working with it. I make a berry smoothie for my toddlers and they love it!! I never thought of using the milk for external use and I'm excited to give it a try on rashes and any autoimmune issues that pop up. I ferment mine in the fridge for about a week to kinda slow down the ferment as we work our way thru the previous batch. Have you ever taken a break from fermenting your grains and just stored the grains for long term in the fridge? I've heard of freezing the grains but I saw someone else this week take out their grains and put them in a jar by themselves and stored them in the fridge. Curious what or if you have done anything like that? Thank you.

      Mine came with instructions. Start with a cap of fresh milk. Change after 24 hrs do . Strain and add new milk till you reach 4 cups. U can do 1/2 a cup gradually or 1--2-3-4. That's how yo activate the grains.

    I have still to understand why strain the kefir grains? I find they are easy enough to scoop up in a spoon and tend to stay together on the top. Any thoughts on this?

    • @dailysourdough
      @dailysourdough  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I usually wait a bit longer on the ferment, and they form a thick liquid similar to a yogurt. They are not easy to separate from the liquid at that point and I find it easiest to just pour them over a strainer. Do what works best for you!

    • @coopie624
      @coopie624 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I strain my kefir because I use fresh, raw milk and the cream rises to the top and coats the grains. I stir it all together to clean the cream off my grains and get it mixed back into the kefir.

    Have you actually ever used Ultra Pasteurized milk with your grains. I used the Ultra Pasteurized whole milk from Costco and it killed my grains after a few ferments and I’ve read many others say the same thing.

    • @lauriejohnston6241
      @lauriejohnston6241 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I did the same when I first got my grains and when they were not working I found out the Ultra pasteurized milk was not good to use. I switched to raw milk and it took a couple 24 hr cycles but the revived and are now flourishing.

    I’m lactose intolerant. Will making milk kefir work with Lactaid milk? Or will making it with regular milk make the kefir tolerable for me? I made water kefir a few days ago, and would love to make milk kefir. I’m brand new at making these kinds of things.

    • @lauriejohnston6241
      @lauriejohnston6241 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Making Kefir renders the milk essential lactose free since the kefir grains eat the lactose. I’m also lactose intolerant and am fine with kefir. I don’t think using Lactaid milk would not work since the lactose the kefir grains need has been removed. Good luck.
