    We should give credit when credit is due. Singapore is of course not perfect, we have issues but whats more important is that our country is improving and not moving backwards. We hear alot of people complaining without seeing different perspectives or providing any solutions on how we can do better or even stepping up to do better. End of the day, we are a damn awesome country. Flawed but awesome and we should continue to do better.

      I totally agree with you as someone who has lived in 5 different countries from Asia to Latin America to Europe n the Middle East, We have already surpassed Scandinavian countries in terms of medical efficiency, education, being the lowest tax countries in the world, n safety. Staying in singapore as a local is definitely value for money coupled with an efficient government.

    I'm a foreigner and lived in Singapore for 3 years before. I can attest that Nas is not just speculating. I can even add more to the nicest things he has observed! Maybe sometimes, humans need to experience to have less to be able to appreciate more and see things in a different perspective. I'm now living in one of I can say great countries too, but I'm still dreaming and wishing I'm still in Singapore. ❤️

      I disagree, I think the line of questioning was fair and gives Nas an opportunity to address the concerns and clarify the facts. It would be irresponsible otherwise to go in and not ask the difficult questions, how Nas handled and answered them goes to show his transparency and willingness to answer.

I feel that Singaporeans only see the flaws and problems in Singapore and keeps on complaining about the various issues, but they neglect the many solutions the government came up with that solve these very problems. Hope Singaporeans can see the good side of Singapore too.

    So strange where a well informed worldly person notices that your country is something to be very proud of and he wants to share that with the world, and yet, he is judged for not knowing what he’s talking about. He is enthusiastically highlighting all the reasons to be proud and is sharing your example to the world so we all may strive to be better, but for some reason, the feed back from the locals is negative. I just don’t get that. Thankfully, ‘the majority’ of the people are proud of their country and they have every right to be. If there is something about your country you are not happy about, then spend your energy on fixing the problem rather than trying to convince your global Ambassador and advocate of the great work you are doing that he is misinformed. Singapore thrives on positive intentions and visionaries who press on and build on their dreams, not on those pointing out just how bad it is, or could be. I trust Nas and his perception of reality. He has walked many miles and witnessed more than most people... if he says you are amazing, then be proud and get back to work improving and helping the world embrace positive change. Congratulations Singapore!! I must come visit!

      There are things that the Singapore government has done well, but to overexaggerate and glorify needlessly, saying its “almost perfect” comes across as uninformed, insincere, patronising and opportunistic. Insulting critics and calling them crybabies is also not a humble attitude. It reeks of pettiness, overly defensive and toxic.
      I have nothing against Israel. They have suffered through a lot. But please dont come to Asia and act like suddenly you are an expert on Asian matters. Do you think Singapore became like this overnight? How many of our local people are suffering? We dont have rockets falling on our heads, but do kids in USA and Israel jump off 30 floors because they failed a Maths test? Do USA/Israel people face retrenchment and replaced by foreigners at their workplaces? Do they overwork like 60-80 hours a week?
      Yup, keep silent on these issues Nas. Just say what your masters want to hear.

      Jack 1)why don’t we talk about how the prime minister is fighting over a landed property belonging to the late Lee Kuan Yew , that building was where the late Lee Kuan Yew lived in and the people of Singapore wanted it to be a monument or a museum but Lee Kuan Yew said “no” as operating it and making it be open cause a lot of money and he didn’t want the nations Budget to be used on this , he got a lawyer and a contract even just to make sure it would be demolish , but the now prime minister Lee Hsien Loong using his authority as prime minister wants to demolish it now but in the contract it states that as long as the late Lee Kuan Yew’s Daughter is still living in it , it would not be demolished until she moved out , but now they are fighting over it as Lee Hsien Loong states that it was not in the contract .
      We can also talk about why people like you are so against him just trying to spread awareness about what our world has become , is it because you want to live on mars ?

      @@samsara2684 hahahaha. U watched the full interview of LKY talking about his house after he past? I doubt u did. I assuming u only watched what the opposition posted a cut short version.
      LKY said in summary "demolish the house after I passed on. IF a law needed to change to demolish the house then don't. But it will not be open to public, only to my family."
      The lawyer of LKY too said she didn't amended his last will. The last will was amended by LKY's daughter in law who is LHY's wife(lawyer). According to law it is not allowed.
      Do u know that LHL had sold his shares of the house to LHY and donated everything to charity?
      Lastly under heritage law any house over 100 yrs old has to go through a commitee to decide whether to keep or go. This is the law now delaying everything. If LHL never go through the committee and demolish the house he wil be abusing his authorities as PM.

      Why do you want anyone to talk bad about your own country and make it public? There are no benefits to making this sort of news public. In fact, it will weaken the image of Singapore a lot. We depend on tourism and foreign investment. If Singapore is portrayed as a bad country, what will happen when people stop coming/investing in us?
      Be proud of what we have achieved. Sure, there are problems in SG that we have to address, but let's do it together - as Singaporeans.

There is a proper platform to make your voices heard and I find it totally unfair to Nas for taking all the heat from you cry babies! I’m sorry, nothing against Israel (great ally of Singapore), but this Israeli Muslim does not understand Singapore in depth at all. Nothing wrong with that, since 95% of the expats and foreign workers here dont understand the problems and culture of the locals either. They just see the surface, the glitz and glamour, and all of it is engineered to be perceived like that.
    Just don’t claim you are an expert when you are literally here for a couple of weeks. It’s like him suddenly claiming he is a Korea or Japan guru and understand all the intricacies of East Asian civilization and complex social issues.

      Jon Singham he may not have said that out literally, but his condescending and prideful attitude speaks volumes. Calling the locals “crybabies”, dismissing criticism and dissent. I dont think thats the right attitude. The whole overly positive spin glossing over all forms of unhappiness just smacks of opportunism.
      Yes, Singapore is wonderful - only if you are rich, foreign, or come from the ‘right’ family.

    • @JS-pl6zw
      @JS-pl6zw 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@kageyamareijikun Thanks for the reply. So from your own judgement you claim that he's claiming to be an expert? You see what's wrong there? Also, you do realise this guy makes a travel vlog right? He's not a true factual reporter. When a travel vlogger goes somewhere, they talk about the positives, that's generally the idea, that is the point of it? He just wants to be more interesting talking about things like how we recycle water and trash etc etc. His purpose firstly is to share entertaining and slightly informative short videos, not make a documentary. He does this for every country he goes too, so it doesn't seem to be about "opportunism". (Do you also realise he only gets a backlash like this when he came to Singapore, and when he visited so many other countries, there wasn't one? - I don't know why, think it makes for interesting discussion)
      He said we lacked perspective, that is his opinion, there's always some good with some bad, he just decided to look on the happy side of life, for a travel vlogger, how is that a problem. This would be a different story if it was National Geographic, and in that situation, you would be absolutely right. "Yes Singapore is wonderful - only if....." you have a right to your own opinion, just like how he has a right to his, even as a mere visitor to the country. I agree with you, "crybabies" wasn't a good response, you are right about that, but look at our response to him too, ain't so great either, he never got shit like this from anyone else, we should ask ourselves why. But also understand where he comes from, where his home is, and what a wreck it is. Anyway, you want him to see the "truth", he has moved his company and home to Singapore, he will now live by his words and feel what its like and will be exposed more, aren't you glad about that?

    • @kageyamareijikun
      @kageyamareijikun 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jon Singham moving here doesnt mean much. Jim Rogers moved here, so did the Facebook Co-founder. But they live in their fancy expat bubbles and high up in their gilded ivory towers. Already a property leasing company has offered to sponsor 2 months of his rental capped at a max amount of 5k sgd/mth. How many locals can afford a fancy condo in Districts 9/10/11 at that price points? Already from this video he seemed intimidated but the rigorous education system we put our kids through. How integrated will he be when hes living here?
      I do not discount the suffering and hardship of Israelis. They are a touch bunch. But likewise he should not discount the suffering of local Singaporeans. We may not have rockets dropping on our heads, but Singapore was not built overnight. The locals paid a high price and even now they and their offsprings are suffering immensely. I do not think American or Israeli kids committing suicide over failing Primary/Secondary tests is a norm like it is here. Or their parents facing retrenchment and replaced by “Foreign talents”. Or homosexuals being labelled as criminals. The list is endless. If he wants to keep to being a traveller/tourist, thats fine, but he is crossing the political/geopolitical lines here and wading into domestic affairs. As a foreigner putting his nose where it doesnt belong, and inserting his biased opinions, belittling locals, that is not welcome in out domestic sphere.

      @@kageyamareijikun They are both billionaires with absolutely zero intention of learning how others live. Nas at least intends to do so. Sure, Nas can get some stuff sponsored, he is nowhere close to that kind of money, but he intends to learn more, and from day one he already has Singaporean friends/contacts, true locals, not expats. So that comparison also isn't fair, but sure, it can be still valid, Nas may very well be one of those people in the end, but he hasn't proven to be, so until then, we should give him a chance.
      He will never be 100% integrated....doesn't mean he is absolutely incapable of learning about the "truth". "likewise he should not discount..." that is a fair point. However, I don't think it was ever his intention, like I said, he's just a vlogger focusing on the positive. I don't think he was wading into domestic affairs, WE brought him into domestic affairs by making a fuss about it, he was just doing what he always does, make little entertaining videos, and stating his opinions.
      "As a foreigner putting his nose where it doesnt belong, and inserting his biased opinions, belittling locals, that is not welcome in out domestic sphere." - I agree with the end of that sentence. But all opinions are biased no? That's what makes it opinions, not facts. Belittling locals...yea by calling us crybabies...fair enough. Then lets ask ourselves about the rest of the countless travel vloggers that have been to Singapore. How is Nas different from them? What do we expect of these people? Nas calling Singapore a near perfect country, is his opinion, just like how there could be someone who says he thinks Singapore is the worse country. What involves "poking their nose into where it doesnt belong"? where is the line? so only locals can/should make travel vlogs about Singapore?
      Thanks for answering your questions respectfully and well. It is a very interesting discussion, and you are making good points. That's rare to find online.

      nicholas yeo yong han btw, Singaporeans are known to complain about everything, as Nas said in the video, it is a good thing cuz we know there are rooms for improvement, however sometimes complaining does make other people feel very annoyed and i believe you won't ever be welcomed or be treated nicely if you keep criticizing abt the smallest things.

    It's seem perfect outside, ideal. But there are problems that is uniquely Singaporean, that is ugly.
    One is shown here the "kiasu" is cultural and will not change with his talk.
    Although on the outside, races are harmonious, but the truth it isn't. Chinese and Malay are treated differently to the Filipino there.
