Her First Road Bike Century Ride! Cycling Around Japan - Lake Biwa 150km

- Today my girlfriend (soon to be fiance) and I will be cycling around Japan's largest lake, Lake Biwa in Shiga prefecture. Japan is known for some really good cycling, and this is one of the most popular and best cycling routes in Japan. In total, it is about 150km ride around the lake, with a mix of busy roads and more quiet roads and bike paths.
About a month before this ride, Thuong decided that she wanted to challenge herself by cycling around lake Biwa. Although she had never ridden a road bike before in her life (or any bike other than a standard cheap bike for that matter), she started training for this goal. Her first ride was about 45km, her second ride was 80km, her third ride was 100km, and today was her 4th ride at 150km.
According to her, each ride was easier than the last since she was able to adapt to the bike and become more comfortable. Even crazier, she was riding in regular shoes with flat pedals and never stood up once during the whole ride.
Anyway, huge props to her for accomplishing her goal!

Great video Cruise, glad you had good weather while our family vacation in Taitung city got wiped out by typhoon this weekend, as they had to shut down the bike trails along ocean. I think you will enjoy the Taiwan eastern coastline. Just stay around city centre, as no food stands around train station which is 20m's away.
I saw the typhoon on the radar, looked like a pretty big one. Sorry to hear your family trip plans were ruined.. Hopefully the weather clears up for you. Currently enjoying some nice weather in the US midwest. Also, It's looking very likely that I'll be back in Taiwan around next February, so hopefully I can check out the east side then ;)

@@TwoWheelCruise Many cyclist never do a century and if they do, it's after months or years of cycling and she knocked out this ride on her third ride! That's unheard of. Most would experience their butt getting too sore or their hands and arms hurting too much or simply have their legs give out. Unbelievable good.

But how did they know the shape of the lake hundreds of years ago when you can see the whole thing only from the sky or on the map?

Wow, that's pretty interesting! I didn't know that.. I'd imagine they knew the shape through the same methods that old maps were drawn (not that I know the method used for that). Would be interesting to know how they did it though..

How many hours to complete?
Normally 4-5 hours for me, but this ride was done in 6 hours. I was also on a mtb and it was Thuong's first 150km ride
