  • Join Thuong and I as we cycle from East Nagoya Japan to the nearby mountains for a day of climbing. Today we are on our mountain bikes and plan to climb up to a "secret" ATV dirt road trail.
This is part 1 of today's bike ride where we ride along the bike paths from the city into the Japanese countryside.
Part 2 - Hiromi Rindo dirt road climb 広見林道

Great video! I am watching now, around 5 mins in, where you ask your viewers to like and comment about the length of the videos.
Yes, I do like these longer videos. They are relaxing and fun to watch. Plus, I imagine for you a little easier, as there will be less editing to do back home, so good for everyone! Lovely day there in Japan!

Yes. I prefer uncut long rides. Just like some walk videos. If you can get binaural sound recording, even better. If HDR, doubly better. Binaural is a stereo sou d recording where the microphones point sideways. All Sony mobile phones from Z2 have these. Xz2 start having HDR 4K recording.

Yup Volkswagen Transporter from the late 50s or 60s. Interesting story as to why they disappeared from US lots in the early 60s - Pres Johnson put on an import tax on European light truck imports to appease the UAW and get them to put off a strike and support Johnson's civil rights agenda. But the US went through the sharade of saying the tax was in retaliation for European import taxes on US chickens (which there was). Net effect was the trucks basically disappeared from the US but they weren't uncommon in Canada. Hippies and draft dodgers loved the damn things.

@@theloniousm4337 They were quite common in Australia and we referred to the Van or truck as being a Vee Dub Kombi, although the van style was more common, they made a fantastic camper in their day. The flat bad truck is mounted higher than you're usual pick-up TW Cruise as it's got the flat 4 cylinder motor under the rear tray...all were rear engine and rear drive. I think the one in the video could be newer than you stated, I'm thinking possibly '68 to maybe 72 model? We also called them what we do the VW Beatle....Hitlers revenge lol

39:32 this is an old Volkswagen (VW) Bully from Germany. I guess build in the late 60ies or seventies. Normally they were build as regular vans or also camping cars. But this one is for loading. They had a poor power of their engine. Maybe 60 horsepower or so.

I thought I was the only one still using thumb shifters on a mountain bike. I'm riding an old bike and seems most of friends back in the day were using the twist shifters. Finally saw her riding from a side angle and her riding position looked fine. I think your camera lens distorts the angles and that's why she always looked like she was sitting way too far back with her legs way out in front of her.

    • @jazzechos1372
      @jazzechos1372 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The industry went backwards to Thumb shifters back in the late, late 90's simply because they were less costly to produce and more reliable than grips. Reason being is that to get good grip shifters you had to spend a good amount of money and then they would last forever. Then at the time SRAM being a lesser company bought out the shifter leader "Grip Shift" an relegated that product to the back of the pack of their own shifters. Which is the same thing that the did when the bought the leader in front suspension "Rock Shock". I still have Grips on my XC bike from the 90's and yest they are far faster and extremely accurate in shifting. (On click = one gear) you can even throw the shift the full range of gears and shift the complete cassette in a single quick twist. Privately owned companies tend to be willing to sell to make their fortunes when companies like SRAM will buy out the competition in order to then move up and dominate the market. It's an old story
Now that most MTB are 1x's the actual need for that kind of quick shifting is not all that necessary. Most are more into Enduro and DH where constant shifting is not needed and XC riding is as heavily marketed as it use to be.

I have so many questions, I'm guessing most have been answered before. I've been to Japan a few times and bought a mamachari once, but I've been wanting to go back to stay for a while and do some real riding. Do you have trouble with space for your bikes? How long did it take you to know enough Japanese to get by? Do you have a local bike shop in your neighborhood you go to to? How'd you learn all the nuances and rules of cycling in Japan as compared to USA? When I had my mamachari I got pulled over for giving another American a ride to 711, oops!

i enjoyed every sec but still hate climbing with a bike. its not fair. mechanical engineering should find a way to collect enenrgy like a wind-unwind spring and release it on such steep paths. e-bike is not the exact solution. it is limited, heavy and needs charging, so it's dependent. by the way a woman who never complains, even when uphill pedalling. youre lucky man.

Just curious as to why your wife went with a mountain bike with a suspension fork for everyday riding? It’s seems like she is always riding on the road (but I could be wrong to assume that)
However, if I am right why didn’t she consider something that would ride more efficiently for her riding style? A touring/road/gravel bike of sorts would definitely ride nicer; less weight, agile yet comfortably geometry, and you’d still be able to ride relatively wide tires for comfort and traction. Just my thoughts?
Also, I assume since she is planning to keep her current MTB and I know it came with stock knobby tires, but it would probably be a good idea to upgrade them to some smooth/slick-soft casing tires. Only of course if money permits it and if or when her current tires wear out.

    • @TwoWheelCruise

The newer iphones have the best video cameras, but they are pricey! so I'd say the new 2020 iphone SE version that just came out that is priced at 400 USD has a very similar camera to the more expensive phones, but if you know what to look for then you can tell the difference, definitely the best deal right now in my opinion. I love watching these newer cycling videos on my tv. It is 65 inches and the vids are very clear. Love it! I feel like I’m there too. Next best thing to my wish of cycling in Japan. I’ve re-watched some of your newer rides several time already😆

I'm not sure about the whole audience, but for me (and maybe most people local to you) I like the longer format but maybe fast track (not completely leave out) the boring bits like Green road for example.

Good point. I'll try to do that on future videos to remove overlap

I’m surprised I only watched this now. More of these types of videos please. Much more before you leave.

VW Kombi light truck , half brother to the iconic Combi Van . Petrol consumption and exhaust emissions on original (air cooled) engines is not good, however the van is much sought after by aficionados.
I like the longer rides very much. I'm looking to upgrade my Samsung, the photos and videos are excellent.
