    My part wasn't huge but I am so happy I found and posted the plans for that stork prosthetic. I'm glad you guys and Karate were able to make it work for the Peacock. As soon as I saw the video about the peacock losing it's leg I started hunting down plans for a replacement. It's just awesome that it actually worked out.

      wesley lawrence is ther something like this for a lab dog... she got ran over in front of our farm on the main road 1.5 years or 2 years at the end of August... she goes everywhere on 3 legs even swimming... it's her back right paw that's missing

      longhaul 7 Yes there is. I watched a show about a dog who had frostbite. They made him prosthetic paws. Fit like boots over his legs. Not sure if it was animal planet or discovery channel.

What a cool way to payback the Peacock for being a pet and companion. You guys are awesome! This video should go viral. I hope it does. Most humans have a soft spot in their hearts for animals. I’ve seen a hawk get a tail graft from a donor ( dead) bird of similar proportions and fly again! It was surgically done by a medical person familiar with raptors. I saw the bird later tossed in the air to fly away through some trees! May end with technology from those nasty salamander creatures there will be a way to regrow lost limbs because a leg loss is more complicated than a tail graft. It’s always nice to see stuff like this going on throughout so these beautiful animals can function again.

    Well I was wondering how Mr Peacock is doing with his new leg. I was also wondering if there was a way to make the foot be able to swivel back and forth? When we walk we usually place our heel down first and then rock onto the front of our foot. It seems if the foot was swiveled or hinged for some movement it would make it easier for him to walk.

    • @OurWyomingLife
      @OurWyomingLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have been talking about that, considering putting some sort of spring on it to allow it to turn but also snap back so it doesnt get turned upside down on him. Thankyou very much - Mike

    Happy to see the peacock has a shot a more normal life. I have recently subscribed to "Our Wyoming Life". I have enjoyed going back and watching all of your videos. I loved watching the feeding of the cows. My experience of feeding three cows was to pitch hay down from the loft. I noticed that you picked up the bale wrap and put it in the cab of your tractor. At the shop you removed the wrap, which had to be picked later and taken to the incinerator. Could you put a plastic garbage can in the cab then put all of the wraps in that and then just stop on the way back and empty it into the incinerator? It might save a few steps which are always important on a farm.

    • @OurWyomingLife
      @OurWyomingLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been trying to figure out something like a bin in the tractor. Bad thing there isnt much room and no place to really put a bin. Its not too bad as an extra step because I am always taking stuff to the incinerator anyway, and I just throw some netwrap in. What I should do is move the incinerator to someplace that I have to drive by with the tractor everyday and then I could drop it off. Somedays though its nice to just get into the shop after being in the cold. Thanks for watching, someday I'll figure it out. - Mike

    Please pay close attention and check at least once a day that the prosthetic leg isn't wearing blisters and sores on his leg. You might want to try & wrap the stump in some cotton batting then put the leg on just to give him a little cushion. Eventually the little guy will relearn yet again to walk but for the rest of his life you'll need to check that leg at least once a day preferably a couple of times a day make sure he's not getting a blister or sore from the prosthetic leg itself. I think the velcro straps would be a much better option then zip ties. Good Luck and please tell Erin not to worry about being emotional or comes to the bird I am darn near twice or age and disabled and when I lost my little buddy Gizmo (Shih tzu) who sat on my lap literally 14 -16 hours a day keeping me company and keeping me safe it was like losing a child to me, it has been over 3 years ago now and I have a new little buddy who also spends most waking hours on my lap, but I still tear up when talking about Gizmo even though Dutchie is hands down my best dog I ever owned, Gizmo will always hold a special place in my heart because he got me through some tough times when I was learning to live life with new health and physical issues.
    I know just how much an animal can mean to a person especially when your dealing with very stressful changes in life. God Bless and I am sending my thoughts and prayers that her peacock learns to live with his new leg and does not have any complications. And thoughts and prayers to you both and your family on your journey learning to live life I totally different way I admire your fortitude

    I chuckled a bit at this. Being raised on a farm more than half of my life, it seemed that all creatures either served an economic or gastronomic need with no room for attachment or sentiment. If one were to create such an attachment one would be expected to feel unreasonable or operating beyond proper perspective. Understanding this, one might say it is silly to go to the effort to provide a peacock with a prosthetic leg. Surely the time and resources could be spent more profitably. Then I allowed my tinny heart to feel and my brain to think regarding deeper things. Surely the lowly chicken would have been dispatched given similar circumstances but this isn't a chicken. The last stanza of Suzy Kassem's pome, "A Jewelry Store Named India" goes like this, "Tell me sir, have you ever heard a peacock sing? Hold your ear to this mystical stone and you will hear scared hymns flowing to the vibrations of the perfumed wind." Given this, I think to myself, "oh how glorious it is to see this bird early in the morning in full plume reporting that the day is full of beauty and promise and as the day ends to hear this bird report that the day was enough and good is good but heart and true perspective is glorious." Why not provide such a glorious bird a prosthetic leg. What a wonderful gift that you have been given. Website www.ourwyominglife.com/

    I have a pigeon who lost her leg above the hock in an accident; that makes a prosthetic pretty tough, and my vet and I are trying to come up with something. I'm sure we'll succeed. Meanwhile, I named the pigeon . . . CASSIDY! Too obvious, I guess! I already had a dove named Festus, so that's out.

    The ability to quickly and cheaply make prototypes using 3d printing is such a big deal. Custom prosthetics take several generations to perfect and this makes it easy to adjust the design.

    Hi! Great to have accidentally found your page!!! I was looking for a page that would show how to give my pretty Peacock some liquid meds. He injured he leg badly & we thought might lose it. After two vets opinions, the last one got on the phone with a very/professor at the University of Tenn. She did a 3 way call with a very at a So. Carolina college & after viewing original X-rays taken of Fancy's leg & saw it wasn't broken, one saw his hawk was swollen/injured. Yay, we know what's wrong now. Not many ppl know about Peacocks here in Central Florida. He won't always eat the food I give him with the meds on it.... So if you have any ideas how to get him to LET ME GIVE HIM HIS MEDS, when that happens, I'd appreciate it. You have the greatest community to have one work out getting your Peacock that leg!!!!!! Fancy's now on my porch for weeks, so he will rest more than try to walk & keep that leg rested. Blessings to you and yours!!!

    ****. Please read! As we have a story as well & we may need help with our peacock, Fancy Pants (We are hoping worst won’t come to worst & hopefully he gets better though)
    My mom has a peacock named Fancy Pants. He was wild, but he showed up at our front door one day about 4-5 years ago. (we actually had a female show up prior to him & my mom took care of her as well, but we are thinking one of the neighbors did something horrible). She’s been taking care of them every single day since. Feeding him every single night, & sometimes in the morning. He flies up into the trees in the lot next-door to sleep, & he occasionally travels around our road back & forth between some lots for food. But he spends most of his time in our front lawn & front door porch area. Of course he eats what he wants as well, grass, bugs, flowers, etc. But my mom has found that he likes quite a bit of food. Of course we do our research as well to make sure it isn’t bad for him. We care so much for animals whether they are our own adopted ones in the house, or ones outside that I guess you could say, adopt us.
    Over the last couple of years, we have had some rough hurricanes. About two years ago, one of the hurricanes must’ve blew him out of the tree, & he ended up breaking some toes on his left foot. We wanted to try to help him, we actually called The Florida wildlife Association, but they said that they couldn’t help because “peacocks aren’t native to Florida.” Which is very wrong because an animal is an animal and you should help them regardless.
    His toes ended up healing, but he walks around with them crawled under most of the time, my guess is because they never healed properly, so he got used to walking with them curled.Sure enough, the next year, he must have fallen out of the tree again and broke the toes on his right foot. So the poor guy Has mostly been walking around with curled toes.
    So once last year’s hurricane Irma came around, my mom just could not bear to let him be out in the hurricane, with both feet’s toes not being able to have the proper function that they should. And the winds were strong, we knew he wouldn’t be able to hold onto the tree. So, my mom did the right thing & she picked him up and put him in our garage for the duration of the hurricane so he was safe.
    Months later now, my mom went out to feed him for his nightly dinner, and she saw him laying in front of our bushes, not moving. Which normally he’s excited for dinner. Then he attempted to stand up & he fell right over. So right away we knew there was something wrong. He was limping really badly & using his wing as a crutch. At first, because he was holding out his wing, we thought maybe something had happened to his wing. But with observation of him limping around in the garage, we figured that something had happened to his right leg.
    Unfortunately, we live in a small crappy town, with not many avian vets. So it took us a good 2 days To call around and find an avian vet. We first were preferring to have one travel to our house, as we didn’t want to have to pick him up and put him in a car, Take him out of the car and into the vet, then back in the car then back home. We didn’t want to put him through more stress than he was already in. But unfortunately, no one came to our house. So we did end up having to take him to the vet.
    They did some x-rays on him and were feeling his leg, and they said that they did not see any breaks or fractures. then proceeded to say that it could be potential nerve damage. To give him a week or so to see if he gets better, and if not, he may have to be put down. My mom and I freaked out and we were like absolutely not. We are not going to jump to such extremes just for a leg injury. And we don’t even know 100% what it is. So the vet gave us some pain killer liquid to give him.
    We decided to put him in our porch, so he has access to outside and has the sun. We have lots of plants out there and we have blankets out there for him to lay on If he chooses.
    About two weeks have passed by andHe hasn’t really shown improvement. So I suggested that we take him for a second opinion, because you can’t just go off of one person’s opinion. Us as humans would do that, so we should give the same fair treatment to animals.We ended up taking him to another vet that received the x-rays from the first place and they also said that they do not see any breaks or fractures. They were feeling his legs to see if they felt the same, to see if they would notice Anything different at all. They then send the x-rays to an avian vet in Tennessee, as well as another vet in another state. Which we were happy with to get as many opinions as possible.One of the vets noticed that his knee or “hock” was inflamed. So then they gave us medication to help with information. And same procedure, keep an eye on him and see if he gets any better.
    That is kind of where we are at right now. We have no clue what happened to him, or what exactly is wrong other than an inflamed knee. He will get up sometimes to stretch And he can somewhat balance on both legs right now, but he cannot walk. He stumbles and so sad to see.
    My mom and I were talking, about if worse comes to worst, we may have to get him an artificial leg if it does not get better and we try everything we can. This even includes driving him several hours north to other vets to get their opinion.
    So my mom sent me this video because she came across it, because I guess she was looking up artificial legs for peacocks.
    Of course it’s a very scary thing for a living thing that you care for. You want to help them and allow them to have the best quality of life as possible.
    But we also do not know the costs of this.We were thinking it couldn’t be more than a grand, but who knows. Hearing you talk in this video, talking about donations and such, makes it sound like it’s a lot more and that’s a little scary.
    The reason I am writing this is I guess to reach out to other fellow people who want to help Fancy Pants, like they helped your peacock. My parents are retired/disabled and they cannot work for themselves to get the funds to help Fancy Pants, if need be.
    I myself, don’t have money either. I am an aspiring TH-cam content creator and twitch streamer and I am not making any living from it yet ( especially with TH-cam hurting creators & demonetizing videos. )
    We have tried our luck before with creating go fund me’s, to help out friends and family members for emergencies and serious situation, and we’ve never had much luck. So my fear is God for bid his leg doesn’t get better, We may have toGo the route of getting him an artificial leg.
    So this is me trying to put the word out ahead of time, IF that has to happen. I would like to round up people that also care about taking care of animals and helping them through any sickness or injury and help them get back up on their feet, so to speak( no pun intended). And have the best quality of life possible.
    I would be really grateful if anyone who reads this, would keep in touch, and would be willing to help create a funding source, and spread the word, if fancy pants needs to have anything done to his leg. And usually I don’t put my emails out there, but this means a lot to me, and I’m hoping other people care as well to help out and see how fancy pants does! SKazzyK0@gmail.com I do check this email often, so I will keep anyone updated!
    And again if worst comes to worst, my mom and I will be making a funding source for Fancy Pants!
    God Bless!

    Update on fancy pants*
    So after bringing him to the second vet for the second opinion as previously stated, & they passed his x-rays around to other avian vets in other states, they had stated that they saw inflammation in fancy pants’ knee.
    So they gave us some more painkillers as well as anti-inflammatory.
    We’ve been giving him that daily for about the last week/weekend a half. And he is still not really walking around. He’s just been laying down most of the time. He will occasionally get up to stretch, but he’ll just kind of stand there for a few minutes at a time & then lay back down. And he still limps & fumbles around when he’s walking.
    We are still hoping that his leg will heal, whatever is wrong with it. But in the meantime, we are setting up a go fund me page, for assistance for his vet bills & continuing to take him around to find exactly what is wrong. & God for bid if worse comes to worst, he’ll need to have surgery or something done with his leg.
    The kind of upsetting thing though, is I feel like I have this bubble around me, that nobody helps the causes & campaigns I make. No matter how many times or people I reach out for help, even when I’m trying to reach out for help for someone else. It’s like for some reason no one in this world wants to help specifically me, but someone else who has a similar issue, or even less of an issue, they received tons of help. My mom has even tried to write you guys, but no response. And we figure since you are going through this, you have a Headstart of information we might need to know.
    It’s nice that someone else on Reddit, started a campaign to help you guys. But we aren’t that lucky, unfortunately. No matter how hard we try or how many people reach out to, or share links or Our stories, it just seems no one specifically cares to help us. It seems like we are segregated from the world of receiving help when needed. Even if it’s for someone else.
    I feel bad in that sense, I feel like fancy pants would have been better off finding a family that loves him as much as we do, but had better luck in receiving help with a campaign to help him, since he ended up having this leg problem.
    It just really sucks to see a community come together to help someone else, but when someone new comes in having a similar problem, nobody helps that person. ):

      Sorry to hear about your peacock. Hopefully the anti inflammatory will help. - Mike & Erin

    • @VictoriaLehr
      @VictoriaLehr 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your reply!
      Unfortunately, it’s been a month and a half now & he’s still not getting Better ):
      He is still limping around & it seems that it’s hard for him to control his injured leg.
      The first vet that we went to said that it might be nerve damage.
      We have taken him to two other vets since that first vet, & they said that his knee is inflamed, but they said nothing more about nerve damage.
      But at this point, I think he needs to be taken to have his nerves checked out.
      I feel so bad for him, & my mom doesn’t do any more than just continuously giving him anti-inflammatory/pain killers, but a friend of mine, said that that’s dangerous to just continuously give them painkillers, because the problem could be getting worse & you wouldn’t know.
