This is the instrument Anoushka would have been relegated to in India's classical music scene. Her father taught her like he would have taught his son but it is on the international stage that she is seen mostly. She adapted traditional ragas to what she names anourag. No alap and slow raga exposition, she knows what listeners are really avid for is teental, the quick movement. Her father has known and endured through a clannish grand master school. Some families had exclusive rights of teaching certain instruments like the bin dating back centuries to rajah decree.

    By Tapasi Saha
Anoushka’s finger talks without vocal cord
The divine melody she creates with her fingers unbelievably intoxicating
    Pierces our soul immediately
Listening to her sitar takes us to a place
    Where no one else matters
Anoushka’s fingers are sharper than Shark teeth
The sharpness of her fingers only U can compare with Goddess Ma Kali’s Sword
The delicate melody she creates with her fingers takes us above the cloud where we’re free like birds
