I work at a used bookstore(we also sell music) and it's super cool and weird how 90% of our vinyl purchases are from kids like 25 and younger. They're super into it. It's awesome. I think it's a collective counter-reaction to the digital "cloudification" of _everything._ People want tangibility and unique experience....because that's rare now, hence valuable. Wow, you can see the genuine happiness on his face at 2:54, that made me happy, that's what music can do to people, and not just music but anything that someone creates by themselves or at least comes up with the idea by themselves
I go to a lot of concerts and after awhile I just naturally stopped using my phone because I realized just how much I was missing by filming everything AND once I finally wanted to look back on videos I had filmed it was easier to just find the exact concert recorded on TH-cam. My personal advice is: Put your phone securely in your pocket and party like crazy (:
I missed some great concerts as well just because I was too busy filming it...I stopped even checking the hour after I realized how empty I felt after every concert...like I had missed it...not to say I didnt even watch those videos even twice the next day.
Never heard of this guy or anything but this guy really seems like a true artist not just looking for more music, an actual guy who gives a fuck about their art.
No offense, but you never heard of Jack White?? The White Stripes? Seven Nation Army? One of the recent Bond songs with Alicia Keys? No? But I agree, he really cares (you might watch the film " I might get loud" if his thoughts on music were interesting for you). I was recently at a Rolling Stones concert and I was so annoyed when people took their phones out constantly instead of enjoying the moment.
There's a great "rockumentary" called *"It might get loud."* I think you'll enjoy it. It has Jimmy Page, Jack White, and "The Edge" from U2. The first two really make the third look skilless and soulless.
Jesus Christ, Jack White is the kind of handsome that scares your heart a little. Makes it jump and skip a beat as if in confirmation that you're witnessing and in the presence of a body that is filled with truth, passion, saddness, and a little bit of anger thrown in to let you know that he is indeed alive.
I hope more bands do this. I hate seeing everyone with their phones out during a concert. How many times are you really going to watch a crappy iPhone video of a concert? You can find much better video (with decent audio) on line.
I would say keep your phones low and out of the way, but if they're going to release the concert footage online anyways just stop filming it makes no sense to.
Once there was a man who filmed his vacation. He went flying down the river in his boat with his video camera to his eye, making a moving picture of the moving river upon which his sleek boat moved swiftly toward the end of his vacation. He showed his vacation to his camera, which pictured it, preserving it forever: the river, the trees, the sky, the light, the bow of his rushing boat behind which he stood with his camera preserving his vacation even as he was having it so that after he had had it he would still have it. I ususally take a few pictures with my phone when I'm at a concert. Just a few, though to remember the moment, show it to people and then I'm all in. I thin that's ok. But taking videos is a whole other thing. It takes too long, it doesn't look good at the concert and the videos always suck.
there's a difference between taking 5-10 pics during a 3 hour concert and filming everything. The best thing would be to ban phones or cameras.. force people to actually be in the moment.
If you use most Android phones, then yes, they'll suck. All videos I ever took with my iPhones sound excellent. Nokia Lumia phones do decent as well but are a bit dodgy due to their Windows OS.

I went to 2 of his concerts and one crowd totally commited to not using their phones while the other time a lot of people just didn't care and you could really tell the difference. The first one was just a giant party where everyone went wild and was chanting all of jis lyrics while the other time it was just a weird feeling to stand beside people who didn't move at all for the entire concert because they wanted to get a decent video or whatever..
I'm old school and back in the day one of the best things about music was going through the albums looking at the cover and the cover art reading the lyrics
I went to a Hoodie Allen concert recently (my first concert) and my girlfriend recorded some and I had no problem with it. She recorded 2 songs, her favorite and my favorite. She didn't post a single video on Facebook or Instagram or Vine and have only watched it ourselves. Amazing concert and there's nothing wrong with sort of re-living that feeling or bringing back memories by watching the video. And not once did she feel "out of the moment".
You know, there's a sort of a difference between recording one or two particular songs and recording the whole fucking show. I was at the Glitch Mob's event in Prague this spring and my friend was recording the whole show standing still, while i was jumping around and basically just enjoying it. You know what I mean? So you and your girlfriend recording your favorite songs is completely fine with not just me, but i think it doesn't hurt the artist that much too.
Saw a Tool concert recently and they banned filming until the very end when Maynard said we could film the last song, Stinkfist. 700 versions of it on TH-cam from all different angles - Amazing! That's the way to do it - give them one song to film.
It was so nice seeing how Conan handled the record. Watching the interview with Jack White on Fallon, Jimmy is just man-handling the vinyl and gripping it over the grooves. It was cringe worthy for me to watch as a vinyl collector.
It's not just at concerts, it's parents too. They feel they need to film every step, every word, every movement their child does. When we're out at a theme park, I'll get just a few photos in because I want to enjoy my kids' moments with my own eyes.
well sometimes it's nice to have some anchor back to a certain year. there will come a time when these memories start fading and you'll be happy you have a few pictures to remind you of those moments.
Honestly, I'm the person that will film my favorite songs, and take pictures here and there to commemorate the event.. but if I saw Jack White, I don't think I would record it. I find this man highly talented and I wouldn't want to take my eyes away from the stage.
I don't think he's trying to say "you don't have any right to hold your phones up at my concerts". I think he's just trying to encourage you to really take in the show and enjoy it with your senses and brain!
I went to a Jack White concert in Vancouver and we had to put our phones in this pouch and you had to leave the stage area and go to a certain station to unlock them.
I saw him this past year and it was possibly the best show I have ever seen. He gave so much of himself to the audience, completely unrelenting. And the lack of phones was a large part of why it was so great. It was the first concert in my adult life where everyone there was completely present and experiencing a moment with no distractions.
How dare anyone tell me what MY experience is. I never leave the house without my camera. I hear my fav music while shooting a concert and have a better memory and experience for it. Fans will clap for anything anyway. Pictures tell stories and a concert is a great story to share.
Basically concert goers should be considerate and respectful to the artist performing and the people around them who came to experience the music. You came to see the show for the artist and their music not take videos and if that's the reason why you came then I'm sorry but you got your priorities fucked up. Take a few pics for memorabilia and put it away. And besides Jack is only ASKING that you don't take out your phone. It's NOT A RULE that you have to obey and if you decide to go against that while everyone else didn't then you're gonna look real stupid in a sea of considerate audience.
you can film and enjoy the show at the same time. people are paying the tickets. elt them they do whatever they want, including talk, turn their back at the stage. rock is freedom, not this shit.
you're one of those people, aren't ya? Why do you go to shows? To talk? To post your fucking video to facebook to show your "friends" you went to a concert of a band you DO NOT respect?
The fact that you pay doesn't mean you can do whatever the fuck you want; following your logic, let's also steal all the instruments and kick the shit out of the band; people like you ruin the experience for the others, you know, the ones that do not have this bullshit mindset.
The people behind you will get distracted by you holding your phone up over the crowd to record the show. He said that he will get the entire show recorded and made available to the public, and it will most definitely be done by professionals, at better angles and with better recording gear. You have no reason to sit there and record it with your shitty phone. And why would you spend money to go to a concert and talk? You go there to listen to the music and watch the artist live, not chat with your mate about last nights football game.
PocketStep the other persons recording the shows dont bother me. why what I do must bother the others? and why a examples who breaks the law? I didnt say anything about that you idiot. I really really the videos that I have of the shows that I went. Fuck who dont like my cell phone up in the air blocking 2% of their view.
I love how Jack White is so pale, but his hair is just jet black. I always thought it was so cool that his hair and skin matched his whole color scheme during the White Stripes and even into his solo career.
Two questions to anyone who has ever recorded concerts/fireworks on their cell phone: Have you ever watched it again, and how many seconds of inaudible distortions did you sit through before you deleted it?
I'm not surprised Kanye started doing it. He's so self-absobed that he wants his audience to see his stellar godliness in all its supreme glory in the flesh and not through an iPad screen.
I always watch when Jack White is on. He's so unique, intelligent and interesting. Conan and Jack White at a Dodger's game. That would have been something!
I always thought the same. It must be so awesome to see a song he created (at a pretty young age) adopted world wide. I mean, when people are happy at a sports game, his song is the chant.
There is nothing wrong with capturing moments of your life to save for later. I have so many videos from concerts of my daughter singing along and us dancing, these "home movies" will be cherished for a long time
Yeah but not by the person standing behind you that is missing half the show because your arms and phone were blocking everything out... It's not about the film, but about all the people and the fact that you're not completely experiencing when you're focused on getting anything on camera. But it's mostly about having some respect and concern fro others!
HolandaChiquita everyone i see holds their phone no higher then there face so no one behind is effected at all....iv made short films a bunch and it is a great way to experience an event.
Absolutely. I'm with you Jack. If you're seeing his performance through a cell phone you're missing the experience. I have always had my cell phone in my pocket but I have never taken it out to film any concert I have been at. I'm going to see Jack in August in Phoenix and I can guarantee you my phone will be in my pocket. I want to live it with Jack. He is a performance musician. The object. Yes Jack people these days do not value the album. Even a CD with the art and things the artist includes. I never buy MP3's. Nope I buy actual albums. It's part of the whole experience.
what is it about Jack White that gets the general public massive guitar hero boners? As a guitarist myself for 35 years , all I hear in his music is standard blues stuff. In fact a lot of the stuff he does is what we did in the late 80s garage band stuff , but somehow Jack turned it into a career. Props to him , maybe I am truly the fool. He's good at what he does , but "revolutionary guitar hero"? meh
All that guitar players play is standard blues (taking credit for something they didn't invented)...he's just smart, like Beck, or Clapton or Page. I'm sure everyone said the exact same thing you said about them as well...
Jack's stuff may look simple on paper. But I've never heard anyone play like Jack. There's something about the way he plays that is very unique. The same goes for the way he sings.
And yet he is critically acclaimed and not bashing other musicians on TH-cam. He may not be one of the best guitarist, but being an artist is much more than that. Its about showmanship, collaboration, writing effective lyrics etc. He knows how to market himself and create an image. I always get annoyed when I see other guitarist constantly bashing him. It takes so much more than guitar skills to get where he is at.. And to top it off, he can just as easily play piano, drums, and perform lead vocals on stage on any given day. Now tell me, how many artist do you know, that are capable of all of this? Calling him a guitar god is a long shot, though.
I think its because his style and sound has that organic, analog classic rock feel and sound that a lot of people miss these days.. He combines that at times with some modern stuff. I agree he never comes of as a masterful technical guitarist, but his sound and some of his riffs bring back that feel you got listening to legends like Jimmy Page. So many musicians today are highly dependent on signal processing and digital gadgets to sound decent. Sometimes there is nothing better then hearing a good player play dirty or clean through some tube amps with very little effects overloading the tone and sound of the guitar.
okay people seriously anybody defending their stupid little cellphone statement. Look at how many famous artists and musicians rant about it at their shows. How many times has anyone gone to a rock concert or any heavy metal show or even a concert for that matter and the artist said lets see them cellphones? If you got every artist ranting about this issue shouldn't that tell you something? Why is your statement more correct?

I went to 2 of his concerts and one crowd totally commited to not using their phones while the other time a lot of people just didn't care and you could really tell the difference.
The first one was just a giant party where everyone went wild and was chanting all of jis lyrics while the other time it was just a weird feeling to stand beside people who didn't move at all for the entire concert because they wanted to get a decent video or whatever..
I'm old school and back in the day one of the best things about music was going through the albums looking at the cover and the cover art reading the lyrics
They should have had Alan Rickman as the first guest, dressed as Severus Snape they´d look like young and old Snape sitting next to each other ...
Sadness...
I love the relationship Jack and Conan have :)
I want to see him so bad
EliteDuck18 I recommend it. He's seriously awesome and everyone got to meet him. Even got his autograph and played the song that I asked him to play
Damn that's cool
EliteDuck18 he's pretty interactive too. Even threw a couple of those small cakes into the crowd during cake boy and it was awesome
Loved going to his show cell free. Thank you! So refreshing!
I HATE it when people film the whole concert. You wont get the same experience neither in sound or video. Its SO annoying!!!
Saw a Tool concert recently and they banned filming until the very end when Maynard said we could film the last song, Stinkfist. 700 versions of it on TH-cam from all different angles - Amazing! That's the way to do it - give them one song to film.
"It was a quarantine island, I was reading about the black plague, and -"
*self-conscious pause*
God damn it Jack, I love you. I love you so much.
How relevant that is now
It was so nice seeing how Conan handled the record. Watching the interview with Jack White on Fallon, Jimmy is just man-handling the vinyl and gripping it over the grooves. It was cringe worthy for me to watch as a vinyl collector.
A record collector collector RARE AND EXPENSIVE 1st pressing. Jack White is not collectible
I love, admire, and respect this man so much. He excites, calms, and intimidates me.
It's hard to decide which one of the two is paler.
50 shades of white
Jack
Jack. Jack is definitely paler
If Jack White and Conan O'Brien aren't in fact learned vampires from the 1400s clearly fearful of the sun, then maybe idk life isn't worth living?
Wow, so this is what Tim Burton and Johnny Depp's love child would look like.
His voice is deeper than I thought it'd be!
That's why I said just a few. I don't bring out a giant iPad on every ride though.
i completely agree! People have forgotten how better it is to live in the moment :)
Honestly, I'm the person that will film my favorite songs, and take pictures here and there to commemorate the event.. but if I saw Jack White, I don't think I would record it. I find this man highly talented and I wouldn't want to take my eyes away from the stage.
Bullshit
@@normalisntcomingback.Jesusis cool?
I get such a strange feeling when I see old concerts from back in the day and you see nothing but people, and maybe a hundred bic lighters.
Jack blacks cousin jack white?
Nooooooo!
+luke6121 that's not how names work
+Chris Sotos you know i was joking right?
+Luke6121 jokes make sense
+Chris Sotos they don't have to make sense. Even if it doesn't make sense to you it might make sense to someone else
In a Coco-Jack White binge watch. 💕
(Was shook that the term quarantine was used here, it's now an everyday term worldwide.)
He looks the main guy character from corpse bride
He looks like the drummer from dead weather
and a member of the raconteurs
Edward Velazco Dead Weather's label is Third Man Records which is actually owned by Jack White
He's like a real life Tim Burton character and I love it
he got his wish, saw him and the raconteurs, they required us to lock our phones in protective cases until the end of the show
He's cool. I like him.
I saw him this past year and it was possibly the best show I have ever seen. He gave so much of himself to the audience, completely unrelenting. And the lack of phones was a large part of why it was so great. It was the first concert in my adult life where everyone there was completely present and experiencing a moment with no distractions.
Thought Conan was interviewing Professor Snape. Disappointed.
9gag?
Until now: www.theverge.com/tldr/2018/1/24/16927864/jack-white-phones-us-tour-yondr-pouch
Now it's a rule.
What if there’s something like a terror attack?? What would people do without their phones
This would be a huge lawsuit waiting to happen
'nobody was in the moment, everybody was documenting the moment'
7 hours in line + a 300 dollar ticket, you better believe i ll be taking pictures because i wont be doing that shit again anytime soon
He is so cool i love him
you can film and enjoy the show at the same time. people are paying the tickets. elt them they do whatever they want, including talk, turn their back at the stage. rock is freedom, not this shit.
I wouldn't call it freedom that you have to keep your phone out 24/7 to record, chat and loiter on facebook without any control over yourself.
you're one of those people, aren't ya?
Same as PugCats :D
Get cam glasses
Attractive fella. Well spoken.... Jack's okay too.
Of all the bromances in the celebrity world, theirs is the greatest! Jimmy Fallon and Justin T. who?
YESSSS
I love this friendship.
Jack White? More like Grima Wormtongue
3:34 "And you can eat this. This is a cookie, also"
Isn't this guy from Black Keys? I love them.
*troll song sounds off in the distance*
He's from The White Stripes. Amazing band.
MrBroks00 not to mention the RACONTEURS... whata band.... then theres dead weather which is an accurate name for their sound
Yeah, i love all bands of Jack too!
MrBroks00 Oh cool. sorry.
“ this is a cookie also“- hahaha. also - the thought of those two extremely pale people at a beach is pretty hilarious
I'm not surprised Kanye started doing it. He's so self-absobed that he wants his audience to see his stellar godliness in all its supreme glory in the flesh and not through an iPad screen.
Don't you ever talk shit about Kanye West.
Greg Poblete Don't you ever defend Kanye West.
TheSharksWithlLasers
bamm. lol
Kanye West is a genius. He deserves to call himself the greatest. I'm sorry.
Greg Poblete
Hahaha really?
I always watch when Jack White is on. He's so unique, intelligent and interesting. Conan and Jack White at a Dodger's game. That would have been something!
TH-cam conan and jack white twenty flight rock if you haven't seen it already .. Thank me later
Being at a concert with no phones is an amazing experience. Just saw bob Dylan with no phones allowed. Changes the show.
@@sloppyjoehillups its just weird to me people who dont like cameras for capturing special moments or events.
All I know is that his music massages my mind, soul, and thoughts.
Oh that's so sweet. God bless you!
"and kanye stated doing it" ... well fuck thats kinda creating a dilemma for me there cuzz everything that guy touches turns into a shit storm...
Jack's laugh is so adorable OMG.
okay people seriously anybody defending their stupid little cellphone statement.
The only "artists" ranting about it are self absorbed primadonnas who seem to forget who pays their bills... the audience.
