      Are these updates only for more storage capacity? Or does it speed up the laptop as well?

    I received my Gen 8 2 week ago. Mine comes with the UHD(3840x2160) IPS Glare 500nits display and it is simply astounding display. You watch a TH-cam video and it's like you are there with them. The Dolby Atmos sound also is great.
    Coming from my previous bulky T520. It is so thin and light. I'm so happy with my choice.

      @@David-vb8tg No PWM flickering and don't worry about the glare screen too. You rapidly get used to it and it's completely fine.

      What kind of battery life do you get with the UHD 4k screen? Moving from a Surface Pro I hope I can still get 8hrs+ on business apps/chrome/email. Of course I expect this to be down to 5-=6 hours watching hi res moviees, etc. Am I being realistic?

      @@ash1 depends more on your brightness. If it's low it shouldn't be a problem. If you have full brightness because you're outside or something the battery will die much quicker

    Thanks much. Still deciding between this and T14 AMD. But, this X1 Carbon sounds like a great performer.

      I believe T14 AMD is better unless you need ultra portability and external graphic card (thunderbolt). I have x1 g7 currently.

    Did you end up using additional slot later? If so, any particular ssd you'd recommend to go along with a 980 pro in primary?

  • @fredio54
    @fredio54 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I can report back on that PCIe slot, unless I did something wrong. Firstly with the same M2 stick you have in the video I had to put it in upside down, and with it upside down it wouldn't fully seat even with the mounting screw in the middle removed in advance, but seemed to make full and good contact across the connector. I plugged in the power and got a charged white lamp. I tried pressing the power button and holding it etc, nothing. When I removed the stick it immediately booted up without having pressed anything further. I did another battery off cycle to do some cleaning and when I plugged the power back in this time I also got a series of flashes (2 or 3) on the power LED next to the button and it worked fine. So in summary, I could plug it in, but it wouldn't be useful for general use if it worked because you couldn't put the lid back on, but it didn't work. Hopefully my new 970 is not damaged by this experiment. I suppose a smaller SSD card might work? Some feedback for you. Mine's 7th, not 8th, though, FWIW.

      Doh, now I find out that there's M-key and B-key that are basically the same but back to front. Hope I didn't kill the stick. 1/10 for that effort, oops, and thanks for the motivation :-D

      Shows up as /dev/sda through the enclosure I got to house it, so hopefully that's a good sign. I will try to put a file system on it today or tomorrow or so and see how I get on.

    You did not say what you were upgrading from when you installed the Samsung 970 Evo Plus. My 6th gen has 256 and I would like to do this upgrade. Just do what you did, going from 256 to 1TB?

    • @SpeakerFeature
      @SpeakerFeature  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's as straight forward as it gets for upgrades. Just take your time through the instructions, don't force off the cover (make sure all the screws are loose, etc), and have a good, flat working surface. Don't touch any electronic components unnecessarily.

    Summary: keyboard sucks. If you are a slow typer, get this laptop. It's good. If you value typing, go for a 6th generation or different laptop. The mouse is okay. I wish Lenovo would have continued with Synaptics but I think most users don't really care about speed or feel.

    How cute. Lenovo solders the memory to the motherboard so you cant upgrade it yourself. Therefore you're forced to "upgrade" your memory when selecting your laptop using their memory, not a cheaper 3rd party 🤦‍♀️🙄

    • @mrengler1
      @mrengler1 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think you're mixing up the company with the product line. the x1 carbon is the "thin" product line, which solders the RAM. you can get the T series (eg: T14) which has 1 upgradeable slot or the x1 extreme which has two slots. they are both thicker as a result. they offer different product lines for different needs. unlike apple where they don't offer upgradeable options
