3 Nights, 3 Sites - Maine Overlanding

  • In this video Ali and I take Ranger and Trooper back to Dennistown just north of Jackman Maine. We spent 3 nights camping out along some incredible scenery. The best part about this trip was it was totally not what we planned. We initially wanted to camp at sites that were taken and had to make alternate plans. It just goes to show you that sometimes no plan is the best plan.

    Moose, loons, and any kind of wildlife definitely makes the trip worth it... I love days with no agenda when you can just appreciate your surroundings. We started just sitting somewhere and doing a watercolor in every National Park we visit. Got a book ¼ filled already. Thanks!

      That's a great idea! We're gonna have to do something like that. We often keep a journal and write some things down in it about the places we go, but I like the watercolor idea!

    After watching Casy at Coyote Works for a few years, I decided to see what the overlanding scene was like here at home and THIs was the first hit. WOW! We might be a bit long in the tooth, but this is SO doable for us. We gotta get out there next summer.

    I can't wait to get out on the trails this summer. New to overlanding and soon to be a dog dad again. Where do you furry friends sleep?

    • @PineStateOverland
      @PineStateOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like spring is just around the corner! They sleep in the truck. In the Tacoma I had built a platform for them, in the Ford, there's enough room with the seats up in the back for their beds.

    Great video guys, what kind of wood did you use for the drawer system? Best regards

    • @PineStateOverland
      @PineStateOverland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching Nicola! I used regular builders plywood for the box, birch for the drawers and the drawers are framed in walnut. It helps when your girlfriends father is a master wood worker and has some spare materials lying around.

      The first spot was down Indian Pond Rd. One of the side roads that connects to it led to a large pond. Not sure the same of it though but definitely past Indian Pond.

    How do you find where these camp sites are? Also do you have to reserve them at some town office? Or is it first come first served? I have been wanting to take my wife over landing for a while now. And I just got a Jeep Liberty KJ Renegade to fix up for some light to moderate off-road over landing in Maine. Ty for the video!

    • @PineStateOverland

      The best thing you can do is get yourself a Maine Gazetteer. I've found more sites that way than any other. Google Earth is a great resource because I found the resolution is higher in the satellite images and you can often follow forest roads easier and find sites that way. I also offer GPX files to my Patron's and have a few throughout Maine published. Safe travels and thanks for watching!

    What type of land was this? The dennistown sandy river area doesn't appear to show up in the north Maine woods maps. Or is it just a local thing where you find a way down and camp there? I'm in MA but I hunt east of there and always looking to explore more.

    • @PineStateOverland
      @PineStateOverland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The land belongs to the logging companies where we camped. More or less a local gem but can be easily found by exploring the logging roads. That's all we typically do is drive until we find something nice that's campable.

  • @207Jeff
    @207Jeff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I get that these are first come first serve, but is there a place to register or pay in that area or are these some of the free sites the state offers? I would love to camp on that stone area by the stream, but not sure if I can drag my teardrop back up without winching lol. We will be hitting that area probably next weekend. Thanks for sharing

    • @PineStateOverland
      @PineStateOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you would be hard pressed to get a trailer down that hill without having to pull yourself back up. The site was free as most are throughout northern Maine. Once you enter the Northern Maine Woods though you will need to register and pay for a pass.

    • @207Jeff
      @207Jeff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah we love the north woods, but at $100 bucks a week basically, we save that for fall. I would lost definitely have to winch back up that hill for sure. Thanks again for the reply, and Shari your journey

    • @207Jeff
      @207Jeff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PineStateOverland yeah, definitely be a chore to get up that hill with my trailer. As far as the north woods…. Yeah we head in there quite often for exploring trips. We will probably try to do as much fall camping as we can there. Found a really great site about 20 min from Lincoln on middle oxhead if you’re ever around that area.
