We drove our 4runner to Estcourt Station ME, though the North Maine Woods, but will we make it back?

In this video, we make the rarely attempted trip to Estcourt Station ME, the northernmost point of Maine. We travel through the very remote Western North Maine Woods, but with road washouts everywhere, can we make it out before we run out of fuel?
Listening to a southerner confused about the border being open in the north made my day.
Glad to provide you with entertainment, I guess? Lol
Please don't leave stickers on places you've been. That's defacing the property and leads to areas being closed to the public. What you drove through in the North Maine woods is private property that is open to public use. Small things like that have led to other areas of private land being closed off to recreational use. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but if everyone that goes through those areas did it, it would make a very noticeable difference. Tread lightly in the areas that haven't been shut down and carry out everything you bring in.
Typical flatlander behavior
Thanks for your input.
Exactly! I recently got into overlanding. But for me the goal is getting to nice hikes, biking, kayaking spots while enjoying the journey. Lived in Maine my entire 44 years and consider myself blessed to have all this beauty in any direction from my house.
@johnspartan3405 sounds like you have the right idea!
you make no sense? a sticker isnt going to close off an area.......most stickers are put on drive thru areas, i dont see wendys or dunkin closing anytime soon......now if you leave rubbish around thats uncalled for
This is how much the times have changed. I'm from Maine and my parents owned a camp in Etscourt Station, we had to drive to Fort Kent, Maine, through Canada, back down to Etscourt and cross back into Maine where our camp was, my father had a key to the gate and we would go through the gate without anyone asking questions. Try doing today and see how fast CBP is on your ass!
Yeah, I am surprised that Americans require so much to get into Canada. I wouldn't think there are many truing to cross the border in a place like that to cause problems. Lol
Thanks for posting this, I’ve recently decided to make a run from Kittery Point to Estcourt Station next summer, 406.7 miles.
That will be an awesome adventure! My advice is to bring extra fuel and never pass a town without getting fuel, and bring bug nets and loose long sleeve clothing and whatever else to combat the mosquitoes. Having a satellite messager is a big piece of mind, too, because you will not have cell service for extended periods. We have a Garmin Inreach and we really like it.
I enjoyed the video aside from the long walk with you chewing gum in my ear LMAO
Sorry! 🤭
Tip: Use the star pattern to tighten wheel lug nuts. Using a circular pattern can cause distortion problems with wheels and brake rotors. I approve of your use of a torque wrench,
though. High marks. Thanks for showing us a part of Maine I've never been to.
I'm surprised you never saw a Maine Wardens Service truck, or a U.S. Border Patrol truck.
Its wild and beautiful country up there. Winters would be bitter, though. Once you get north of Bangor or east of Ellsworth,
Maine gets much quieter, and much more appealing.
We didn't see anyone! It was impressive how remote it was!
Great video - I live in Maine spend a week every summer exploring the logging roads from Moosehead and beyond…. However I am yet to head this far north yet.

Thanks for the sub! There is a special alure to me about going to the furthest points possible somewhere!
Really fun video. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Best vacation ever. I always wanted to visit places like this. They some interesting border places. Derby Line, Vermont has the Haskel Free Library. It sits on the U.S.-Canadian border. Also Rue Canusa sits in Stansted, Quebec and Derby Line and it is a literal border road. There is a Richford Slide Road in East Richford, Vermont which goes about an 0.08 mile into Quebec.
Yeah, there are some really bizarre places up there! Thanks for watching!
Them roads up there can be unforgiving, cool vid!
They really are. Thanks for watching!
Its actually a fascinating geography anomaly. Those 2 houses you walked past at the end are the only ones fully in the US. The other houses on that street are split between the US and Canada but since your address is based on where your front door is, they are all Canadian citizens. Truly a fascinating area of border weirdness!
It was crazy! I'm glad we made it up there. Thanks for watching!
Looking forward two video too i live in Greenville Maine
Awesome!
A LOT of people up in those parts spoke or still do speak French. And if I was to hazard a guess, not many people bother going up that way unless they are from Quebec or have family in Quebec, which means they speak French. Shame there isn't a English translation... but wicked cool ya got to go that way. Only been as far as the Golden Road beyond Kokadjo. Being from the coast, it was eye opening to how rural we are here.
That is very cool. Thanks for watching!
I love your video and hope to go to Estcourt Maine by way of logging roads. One thing that baffles me is the foot bridge in Canada why is it there isn’t it illegal to just walk across it I don’t see a customs station in the middle of the bridge 😂 strange.
I had the same thought about the bridge! Lol It was pretty bizarre. Glad you enjoyed the video! Part 2 will be live very soon!
I've seen the bleu colored house on Maine real estate , it's for sale , really nice on the inside
It would be tough to access!
Drove my F150 thru Katahdin Woods to chase northern lights couple years ago. Ended up taking snow mobile trails and didn’t see a single sign of civilization other than a rare state park plague on a tree for maybe 3-4 hours lol. Saw a moose right in front of me though!
That's awesome. Did you get to see the lights?
@@loganpartyof4runner yup! Saw them with my own eyes though it was off at the horizon/tree line. Wasn’t anything like the one that happened last month sadly.
@anthonys3906 well that is cool that you saw them. I missed the show the first night recently, but I took off work and climbed a secluded mountain the following night and caught a little show. It was amazing!
You really should park much farther off the road. The logging trucks are wider than you think on those narrow roads. They are heavy and can't stop like a car. Parking in the grass is much safer if not as convenient. On the weekends and Friday afternoon are safer for cars. But you never know when a fully loaded logging truck will come down the road. logging truck vs 4runner you will loose every time.
Good point. Thanks
Wow, tough crowd in the comments! Cool video although it made me a little anxious. I would imagine life was a little different up there before 9/11.
Trust me, we were a little anxious, too! Lol
Caught a maine realtor selling the 2 nd house in town from boarder
Quite the investment property! Lol
that is odd no warden's or border patrol I seen them almost every day in the Bingham area
It seemed so far away from everything that there was very little presence of border patrol, or maybe it was the day of the week or something
@@loganpartyof4runner probably all of the above. Maine does have some pretty rural area's
the sign is in french because maybe , it's for the people of Quebec to read as they enter the U.S ....jeez ,
🫡
Why wouldn’t you buy a $50 Garmin or Magellan gps unit? Just in case? So you know where you are.
I do have a nice, older Garmin Colorado handheald unit in the rig. The issue is not usually knowing where you are, or how to get somewhere, but knowing what the current road conditions are with roads that are not traveled on recreationally very often.
Hey goober, it’s in French because we have two national languages. Fancy book readin’ might help that.
Well I know that, lol, but those signs were on US soil, and we don't speak French.
The language for that area is known as Acadian.. our nova scotian, quebec and northern maine french are the reason cajun folks in Louisiana exist. Some cool history if you do the research.
Very cool!
who's the goober......lol
@@loganpartyof4runner There is no official language of the US. Acadians in Maine do speak French. And plenty of people in Louisiana do as well.
We used to tool around in my grandfathers crown vic in the north maine woods, clickbait af.
Nice! Lol
There's no such thing as an ( Ottawa ) plate ....
My apologies. 🫢
"drove for 2 days and can't even get there"
Can't you just... go through Canadian immigration/customs? Unless this was filmed on a weekend.
you were in canada......should of just taken that left and gone down the street to get gas
I was tempted!
Maybe not chomp on gum while filming
Hahaha! We keep it raw and unfiltered on LP4R!
