That whisper he was fighting is actually the original timeline version of Cloud trying to stop him from changing his destiny. So he essentially called himself a bitch when he said "Bring it on bitch!". The other two whispers are Barret and Tifa I believe.

So the main theory is that it's them, not future versions of Cloud, Barret and Tifa. Consider this, why would future versions of Cloud, Barret and Tifa even want to stop their past selves from changing the past? OG FFVII is basically the bad ending to this story, so they have no stake in stopping their past selves from changing it.
