You sometimes need a criminal to catch criminals. Just like you sometimes need someone who is open about having been a scammer to tell you when something is a scam. Sadly we have enough people in the world who thorougly believe in the lie that "you too can one day become a multimillionaire" and go to huge extends to defend their Stockholm Syndrome because that would actually mean accepting the fact that people who become ultra wealthy were either born into money or were at the right spot at the right time (i.e. Luck). People so believe in the creation myth of "you too can one day..." that they just sign over money out of FOMO to MLM fiends who cash out. They tell themselves they are smart even though they have no fucking idea how any of this works (as shown through NFT bro's not understanding how ownership works) out of sheer arrogance and stupidity. Imagine having enough cash lying around to invest thousands (or millions) in crypto but not having the braincells to understand you're literally getting fucked over because they prey on your insecurity.
Atleast we can confirm that the Dunning-Kruger effect is real.

For the rig thing, you can list that this is for personal use only, not commercial purposes. A lot of my fellow animators go to school and need rigs for their demo reels and practice work, so those sites are amazingly useful (I normally toss them donations, now that I can). But that is very different than if Dreamworks or Pixar were to just take the rig off the internet, spruce it up a bit, and make millions. That is grounds for lawsuit, just like this case will likely be.

That doesn't mean that it's pointless or worthless. So many things about the scheme that would make most (rational) people see it as a scam or pipe-dream immediately. An island they don't own, with no infrastructure in place (besides what was set up for the one house that's there). It has a dirt road and a boat dock. The cost of developing it (everything would have to be brought by boat) would be astronomical, and each landowner would have to pay their share of the cost to make the island livable. That's besides paying to build a house on an island, and having to buy a boat. Basic things like 'where are you going to get water', and 'where are you going to get food' are glossed over.
But even beyond all that, the Cryptoland people are selling the idea that they get to decide the law on their island. 'The age of consent is mental maturity'...no the age of consent is 16, because it's in Fiji, and the laws on Cryptoisland would be the laws of Fiji. And that includes NO gambling -- despite their plans for a casino. They aren't making a new country.
The whole thing is fairy dust and fantasy. That's what they're selling to a bunch of thoughtless entitled men. Speaking of which, good luck finding women on an island of bros. Add 'paying for sex' to the cost of living there...

On that last topic of kids being on social media, today's Internet culture is wildly different from ten to fifteen years ago. I'm that weird middle stage of 90s/00s baby and growing up the Internet from the mid-00s to about 2012 was really chill. Then the iPhone came out. Then social media _really_ kicked off. Then depression rates shot upwards.
There's an article on Odyssey called "Why Tumblr is Ruining A Generation" and it's basically described how social media in general has warped the minds of teenagers who aren't done with their growing pains. (The author stresses this could've happened on ANY platform but it was mainly Tumblr.) The kids are depressed, their 20-something peers online take it and spew it back because those young adults are still just as juvenile, and the teens are validated that someone "older and wiser" has just confirmed their pain. It's an Ouroboros of self-loathing and misunderstanding.

Asmongold speech with FFXIV music in the background really hit hard for some reason.
Recently, my older sister has been "baited" by the whole trend of "life coach selling formations on how to get rich bullshit", and she recently quit her job to follow this path. I know she does that because she's kinda desperate about her life right now (even tho she has a very normal social and professional status tbf), and instead of trying to understand why she's unhappy and seeking happiness through personnal growth, she's chasing that get rich and succesful quick mindset, because we all know somehow you stop being sad when you become rich. We had a very strong argument about that yersteday and this makes me really sad for her, because it'll probably take a while before she realises how futile this is and how little it will contribute to her happiness.
I can't imagine how it is for kids nowadays growing with all this social media exposition and shitty values, fake people and whatnot. My other sister has 3 kids and it's hard for me to imagine how difficult it is for her and her husband to balance social media access for their kids. So far their kids have 0 access to social media and were very happy, but the older one (12) is starting to be affected by it, feeling a little bit out of place compared to her friends (not helped by the fact that she's very smart and mature for her age). When I see what social medias do to a grown up a woman, I don't want to see what it will do to those who will come after us, I just hope they'll get through it and take something out of it.

With all of the good points Zack made I feel that there's a little disconnect here. A lot of people are trying to "get rich quick" and are seemingly desperate because this phase of our capitalist society is failing a lot of people. When the majority of the jobs out there aren't that great or don't pay livable wages people get desperate for alternatives. A lot of millennials that are in their early 30s to 40s are now at a point where they've been in the work force for a decade plus. Working that long and not having much of anything to show for it is going to make people irritated, unsatisfied, and desperate in some cases. Social media just adds fuel to the flames with this mindset. The majority of the working class lives check to check these days. Side hustles are a norm now and they shouldn't be imo. Why should you have to work outside of your job to sustain a comfortable life? Why is it normal for a full time job to not be enough to sustain a person? There are far too many people who tried to take the "proper" path to success by putting themselves into thousands of dollars in debt for an education that didn't pay off. That was hammered into the minds of millions of children. Of course success is never guaranteed even if you try to make all of the right moves. But one thing I can guarantee however, is that they will be paying those loans off for the foreseeable future. I appreciate your opinion, but you also haven't been a part of the normal work force for a while. The landscape has definitely not changed for the better. No one is owed being rich or wealthy. But people that put in work day after day, year after year, deserve to live with some dignity. And telling people to just work harder or find another job isn't a realistic solution. Not that you said that, I just see that thrown around here and there. Anyway, sorry for the rant. Just my 2 cents.

It is even more accurate in this Covid era where social distancing, lockdowns, school closure happen even so often and internet is in most cases the only way to connect to the world. I'm glad Asmon takes time to take about it since it is a very modern topic.

I spent 10 years of my youth (10 to 20) alone; no friends and no partner. It was only me and my computer, yet I didn't end up like these scammers. My mom wasn't there either so it's not like she raised me right, I did it myself. I just think some people are born dumb for life and no matter how much you try to educate them they wont change because they're dumb.

11:40 entire tangent is irrelevant, because she did release autonomy. The autonomy for her work to be used by everyone to learn. Simply not the autonomy to use it commercially, as is super common in the industry.

Delightful i don't know who need to hear this but saving money won't make you a millionaire investing will, so take out some money and invest, but invest wisely.

Obviously trading in shiba inu is very volatile and risky to trade that's the reason most traders trade with a company.

I bought shiba inu when it was 7k earlier last year, and since then I have been having my Shiba inu traded in the market by a trading company and I'm really making profits.

If it wasn't a scam it wouldn't be out in public. If Mark&Stacy worked as hotel managers for 30 yrs then decided to build their own, they'd go to banks, business angels and various millionaires, they wouldn't make cringy fundraiser ads. It's simply practical - it's easier to deal with two co-owners or one bank than to manage the money of 50k ppl. In addition, scamming ppl with NFTs is less risky than to deal with millionaires and banks, who can sue you if you make a mistake or pull out at any time. Even under the best circumstances, if Rockefeller's son-in-law wants out, you can't block them on Twitter and wash off your hands.

Ironically Diablo 2 taught me at 10 years old about these types of scams like “crypto money doubler”
Someone told me they would give me a hack for the game but they needed my account info, and yes they stole my stuff.
