OH MY GOD! Aladdin was the ONLY SNES game that I was able to beat and hearing that you guys didn't beat it gives me hope that I might become an awesome game player like you guys! X3 ...Naw, probably not. Still can't beat Lion King to this day XD;; Hilarious commentary on the SNES games. Made me smile and laugh a lot.
THANK YOU for defending number one johnny, i love that game so much, and it's one of my all time favorites (not going to spoil it for people who haven't watched the video yet).
@SomecallmeJohnny Are you guys planning on having a downloadable content for your ramble/podcast? Because I would love to hear you guys do discussions while I'm driving to go to gigs, practice, performances, or just traveling; and it would be nice if you guys do it once week.
5:47 SomecallmeJohnny Street Fighter Alpha 2 IS on the Saturn. I used to own it. The controller was PERFECT for that game as i didn't own any sort of arcade stick at the time, and i was, like, 10 when i got it. Load times weren't that long, either, and the soundtrack got an upgrade in instruments from its arcade counterpart. I even bought a strategy guide, but only because i wanted to learn how to execute Shun Goku Statsu, after i saw Akuma use it on me in SFA1...i was like. "WTF WAS DAT!"
You guys need to upload something with the names of all these awesome remixes you had playing in the video. I wanna know what that Kirby one near the end is, dangit!!
as for EarthBound's predecessor, "MOTHER" (the rom English translation is titled "EARTHBOUND ZERO") according to Ted, was never translated when it was first released, go check out the first part of the LP done by the 1 and only: Chuggaaconroy. Give the first few minutes a listen, and get more information on the subject from the "King of Game Nerds" himself.
Battletoads/ Double Dragon is ball busting difficult, because there are so many things that kill you instantly, you take a ton of damage from hazards and have almost no recovery time, when a hazard hits you.
On the aladin boss part, I assume that the PC version and the SNES version are the same (for what I saw) But if I'm right the last boss is snake Jafar. But I don't know if another boss follows afterwards because I never could beat the guy :/
Oh, and Johnny. Secret of Mana may be a co-op RPG as the main gimmick, but it's a perfectly well-designed game even when you're playing on your own. The thing that most people overlook is that you could actually play with three people in the game, but you'd need a multitap just to add that third controller, so it was a bit of a hassle.
I was born the same year, and like you, I have no problem going back to previous generations. While I do consider World being the best Mario game that I've played, 64 had the bigger impact on me, and is the Mario game I have the most connection to.
My favorite SNES Games are: Mortal Kombat (1, 2, 3, UMK3), Alien 3, Judge Dredd, Robocop vs. The Terminator, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse, Killer Instinct, RoboCop 3, Star Fox, Contra III: The Alien Wars, Demolition Man, Aladdin, Doom, The Shadow, Jurassic Park 1-2, The Lawnmower Man, Cutthroat Island, Prince of Persia, Tetris Attack, Batman Returns, No Escape, Timecop, Earthbound, Street Fighter 2
Ogre Battle is a pretty fun series, the grid deal you were talking about is only the encounters.. before then your moving on the map against your opponent, sorta like an RTS sorta not and 2 armies meet then they duke it out, its fun if you have the time to play, I'd suggest the 64 one over the SNES one though, both are good but I think the 64 one is superior, but then again that's just my opinion lol
i'll agree on X3, back then that was the only SNES X game i haven't played, i played it just recently, i tried hard to get into it but i just couldn't do it, the only thing i can give to it is that it's the first game in the series that lets you play as Zero
actually the reason was that earthbound wasn't advertised with the american in mind, with gross scratch and sniff cards in Nintendo power (R.I.P.), it was marketed in a way that was commonplace in japan (being ****ing weird) and the fact that is was sold exclusively as a set with it's own manual that doubled the average retail price of a game at the time :P
Metroid Prime 1 is just above normal difficulty for me, I enjoy 2 and 3 (a bit hard for my tastes) because of the difficulty spike. Currently going through the Hard modes and not sure if I am going to do the last/hyper difficulty of the games.
38:53 Rush Job? If I remember correctly, the controls in DKC3 were decent. The gameplay is innovating, and the level design is a slight improvement compared to the first two games. So yeah, I don't know what Johnny's talking about. But hey, to each its own.
I'd recommend you guys try Shadowrun, but it may not be to your liking. Still would've been nice if you guys atleast talked about it some instead of brushing past it like it was nothing.
@ByondRAGE I think you're forgetting the part where these slogans and iconography never worked. Even as kids, most of us rolled our eyes whenever anything was described as "zany" or "Out of this world!" on boxes or ads and such. Even by the 80's and 90's, media had bombarded us with so much info even as kids we just tuned it out. Yes, every once in a while there was a good ad that worked, but most just fall flat, even on kids.
I can understand if he fully played Eathbound then said I don't find appeal but he didn't it starts out bland but i gets good later. I didn't like it at first but once i got Paula i was hooked. Just because it didn't get lots of sells doesn't mean its bad. It also has alot of popularity now but the sales don't go up because it's rare to find a copy so everyoone uses emulators to play it now. You're missing out on a great game, and there's one thing your missing. It's #13 on the list.A long rant.
@majormelthesackboy you say old school, what worries me about that is what is considered old school to the younger generation, for me oldschool is nes and snes, i have heard people refer to final fantasy 7 as old school and gamecube games as old school, no offense to those people but old school is what got gaming into the mainstream community
basically Johnny Earthbound was a very funny game filled with tongue in cheek humor, Mother 3 on the other hand was THE most emotionally moving game I have ever played in my entire life. No matter how many times i see it the ending can still make me cry. Mother one... well it's dragon quest with strange enemies, humor, and a back story for the main villain of earthbound.
so based on what you're saying, i assume you mean hal and nintendo teamed up on making the kirby series AFTER seeing earthbound's poor selling rates in america, meaning that not very many americans had a clue about hal until kirby started
I'm gonna have to disagree with Johnny on the fighting game ports. Yes the arcade IS the way to play them but I can still stick in MK 2 or KI in my SNES and still have a blast.
Dude I would love to see Elliot be invited on one of these list just to see what he would say. I mean he's been quite Epic on the new Mortal Kombat Let's play.
About X3... time for the most thrilling god damn thing ever. A robot slowly places a crate, and then flies away. Damn, what happens next? A robot slowly places a crate, and then flies away. Still feeling unfulfilled? These fun engines repeat it several more times just in case anyone hadn't already shit themselves from the excitement.
I have to agree about mystical ninja, GREAT GAME. Well worth playing. The story is essentially no different from what you get from Zelda or Mario, but they have counterfeiters and Ninjas as well an entire level dedicated to mini games and safe money grinding. Plus, the challenge factor is fair. Aside from that, the N64 Mystical Ninja games are hit and miss, the Multiplayer one is fun and works a bit like the SNES title. Plus, there are giant robot fights in it. The other N64 one is a Zelda clone
I wonder if Johnny'd play Cannon Spike on Dreamcast... Arthur's in the game, although he's either taking a lot of 'roids or is a giant robot now. Pretty good shooter.
i love the super nintendo i still have a working console with super mario world, all-stars, yoshi's island, final fantasy II, etc. that is my childhood
Actually that's wrong. You can't take X3 out of the series without Retconning Zero having an anti-sigma virus on his Saber and why he uses his saber only and the fact while the Sigma Virus form was shown in X2 it wasn't elaborated on or had most focus until X3.
Oh no, three posts in a row! Sorry about that. EarthBound didn't sell well because (or so I've read) its graphics were dated in a time when having the best graphics on SNES apparently mattered. The game itself is so full of humor, quirky characters and weird enemies that I think that you're definitely missing out on a gem. As far as I'm concerned, there's almost no bad RPG for the SNES. There's subpar stuff like Secret of the Stars, but any acclaimed SNES RPG is certain to be enjoyable.
About Earthbound, the reason it didn't sell well (I would assume at least) Is because, when it came out, Final Fantasy had set the standard for, epic, deep, long stories with deep and well thought out characters. earthbound mine as well just be a parody of them, which is why a lot of people like it...i would assume.
I like how they completely disregard the fact that back then you couldn't always go to the arcades to play the better version, and that the port was the best way they could reproduce it at the time. Rock and Roll Racing: "Wow this is 90s" No fucking shit... Out of this World: Obviously they would say that on the box, they are trying to sell it. It only said that back then, not now. It doesn't take a minute of commentary to figure it out. I don't hate these guys, they just need to be informed
Just one more thing, Earthbound wasn't popular back then, when people were not too into RPGs to begin with. Earthbound took a few years to truly catch on. Also, because of copyright infringement here in the USA, there was intense controversy. So Nintendo had to pull it off the shelves before it became popular. So it's not just because some people didn't care, some couldn't even get it before it got it's appeal it has with the fans now.
It didn't sell well originally because Nintendo didn't market it well at the time. They didn't have a lot of advertisements for it and for the few that they did, it didn't portray the game in the best light. That's why it didn't sell as well as it could have. Kids didn't know what to think of it at the time. Though that isn't the real reason why Nintendo of America won't re-release it along with the other installments though...
Play up to number 4 of the Breath of Fire's 2 for SNES 2 for Ps1 trust me amazing rpgs that I consider pretty up there with some of the more known great rpgs.
Only reason why EarthBound doesn't sell well was aggressive advertising from Nintendo of America and also RPGs were not popular until that well-known PlayStation game gets released.
I know this is back in 2011, and I *MAY* have commented on this via my other channel, but Aladdin's SNES game is EASY! You can beat that game in less than 1 hour if you're good. Less than 20 minutes if tool-assisted.
Does anyone else think Johnny's rant at 44:22 goes really well with the background music?
wow, Johnny's opinion on Super Ghouls n Ghosts changed a LOT XD
@mistriousfrog
I'd like to think of it as a Podcast. Something to listen to while your working on something, or traveling somewhere.
This list was recorded on September 8th, 2011. Boy that was fun!
OH MY GOD! Aladdin was the ONLY SNES game that I was able to beat and hearing that you guys didn't beat it gives me hope that I might become an awesome game player like you guys! X3 ...Naw, probably not. Still can't beat Lion King to this day XD;;
Hilarious commentary on the SNES games. Made me smile and laugh a lot.
@Dreadnaughtic The music goes down quite a bit about 10 minutes.
Ted and Johnny need to give EarthBound a chance...
Ryan, there is a thing called "Don't judge a book by its cover".
To those who don't know what Desert Strike is, it's a strategic war game based loosely on the Gulf War
What music is playing around the minute 18 marker
5:47 SomecallmeJohnny Street Fighter Alpha 2 IS on the Saturn. I used to own it. The controller was PERFECT for that game as i didn't own any sort of arcade stick at the time, and i was, like, 10 when i got it.
Load times weren't that long, either, and the soundtrack got an upgrade in instruments from its arcade counterpart.

Like, 3 fucking years after this video was uploaded. Lolz
esmooth919 I do that too man
The NES Tiny Toons game was a solid one never played the SNES one though.
Which zelda song did you play in this vid???
Battletoads/ Double Dragon is ball busting difficult, because there are so many things that kill you instantly, you take a ton of damage from hazards and have almost no recovery time, when a hazard hits you.
Why the hell isn't Super Butoden 2 or Hyper Dimension on this list?
I listened to this while working on an art project. Thanks for making homework fun, guys!
is the music in this video from super smash bros brawl?
The music's a bit loud. I can barley hear you
Does anyone know the name of the song at 47:59?
Shadowrun. It's a futuristic type action RPG thing with guns. Definitely recommend it.
On the aladin boss part, I assume that the PC version and the SNES version are the same (for what I saw)
But if I'm right the last boss is snake Jafar. But I don't know if another boss follows afterwards because I never could beat the guy :/
"that soccer comment alone made me dislike game."? where did my grammar go there?
0:03:19 what's this remix?
Oh, and Johnny. Secret of Mana may be a co-op RPG as the main gimmick, but it's a perfectly well-designed game even when you're playing on your own.
The thing that most people overlook is that you could actually play with three people in the game, but you'd need a multitap just to add that third controller, so it was a bit of a hassle.
@nahnah390 Mother 3 has no copyright issues to my knowledge. Earthbound has reasons, I respect that. Not Mother 3.
I was born the same year, and like you, I have no problem going back to previous generations. While I do consider World being the best Mario game that I've played, 64 had the bigger impact on me, and is the Mario game I have the most connection to.

My favorites are Mega Man X, Super Butoden 2, Hyper Dimension, Link To The Past, Turtles In Time, DOOM, and Super Metroid.
What is that mario song at the begining!?
Ogre Battle is a pretty fun series, the grid deal you were talking about is only the encounters.. before then your moving on the map against your opponent, sorta like an RTS sorta not and 2 armies meet then they duke it out, its fun if you have the time to play, I'd suggest the 64 one over the SNES one though, both are good but I think the 64 one is superior, but then again that's just my opinion lol
when is exand gonna make more lps (pokemon sapphire)?
i'll agree on X3, back then that was the only SNES X game i haven't played, i played it just recently, i tried hard to get into it but i just couldn't do it, the only thing i can give to it is that it's the first game in the series that lets you play as Zero
@mrnintendo88 Nope. The 911th video was a castlevania part released today.
YOU'RE ADDING MP3'S AGAIN.
Who's Ted is it Solaris if so I thought his name was Luis
Completely agree with you, Ryan. Never have, never will understand the appeal of Soccer when here in America we have American Football.
actually the reason was that earthbound wasn't advertised with the american in mind, with gross scratch and sniff cards in Nintendo power (R.I.P.), it was marketed in a way that was commonplace in japan (being ****ing weird) and the fact that is was sold exclusively as a set with it's own manual that doubled the average retail price of a game at the time :P
Theres top gear 2 on the list? I have top gear one but I don't know what top gear 2 is.
Metroid Prime 1 is just above normal difficulty for me, I enjoy 2 and 3 (a bit hard for my tastes) because of the difficulty spike. Currently going through the Hard modes and not sure if I am going to do the last/hyper difficulty of the games.
Is there a non-pain-in-the-ass way to get all of the music you guys used in the background for this commentary?
A 2 hour video!? Good thing it is Saturday and I have nothing to do!
38:53 Rush Job? If I remember correctly, the controls in DKC3 were decent. The gameplay is innovating, and the level design is a slight improvement compared to the first two games. So yeah, I don't know what Johnny's talking about. But hey, to each its own.
talking of which, what HAS happened to Lewis?
I'd recommend you guys try Shadowrun, but it may not be to your liking. Still would've been nice if you guys atleast talked about it some instead of brushing past it like it was nothing.
I personally think the genesis version of Gouls n' Ghost is fun. I think the control is better and it makes it easier with the attack in 3 dirrections
Can you guys do the Top 25 PSX games next?
@therobotchickenMLP why?
@ClementJ642 A nerd war between Ryan and clement? :P
I Miss the only for nintendo logo on the cover of boxes that they used to put
Also because of the huge bundle for what is an untested product.
@BaconMinion CT?
@ByondRAGE I think you're forgetting the part where these slogans and iconography never worked. @BlitzkriegOmega
I'm guessing Chrono Trigger.
I can understand if he fully played Eathbound then said I don't find appeal but he didn't it starts out bland but i gets good later. I didn't like it at first but once i got Paula i was hooked. @ProkoLokor Nooo! Triple post?
The did translate mother but did not release it
@JestermanX Along with Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma.
For Ted, Super Mario RPG might not be the best Mario RPG, but it is the only Mario RPG on the SNES. So... it deserves it's spot.
basically Johnny Earthbound was a very funny game filled with tongue in cheek humor, Mother 3 on the other hand was THE most emotionally moving game I have ever played in my entire life. well, I personaly prefer majora's mask, and think a link to the past is overated, but i can see johny's opinion. awesome comentary guys
I'm gonna have to disagree with Johnny on the fighting game ports. Yes the arcade IS the way to play them but I can still stick in MK 2 or KI in my SNES and still have a blast.
And I think.. if you said what you saw of Ogre Battle looked like FF Tactics.. then you saw Tactics Ogre I think, which is similar to FF Tactics
Lufia 2 has in my opinion one of the greatest overworld themes in all of rpg's
Holy SHIT. 2 Fuckin hours!? You guys never fail to impress me. ;D
@ProkoLokor there already was
Dude I would love to see Elliot be invited on one of these list just to see what he would say. I mean he's been quite Epic on the new Mortal Kombat Let's play.
The music was fitting when Johnny said he liked Mega Man X6 more than X3.
About X3... time for the most thrilling god damn thing ever. A robot slowly places a crate, and then flies away. Damn, what happens next? A robot slowly places a crate, and then flies away. Still feeling unfulfilled? These fun engines repeat it several more times just in case anyone hadn't already shit themselves from the excitement.
Finally someone whos with me with the number one!

@ScatmanKirby Care to elaborate?
@ODSTPlayer922 solaris didn't have internet when they recorded this, ted replaced him
i love the super nintendo i still have a working console with super mario world, all-stars, yoshi's island, final fantasy II, etc. that is my childhood

@ClementJ642 Oh, you shall see once I get around to doing DKC3 for BSC. Heh heh heh.
I agree on number 1.
But i will admit I have heavy nostalgia glasses clouding my vision.
Wait, what the hell? You haven't played Soul Blazer, Shadowrun, Illusion of Gaia? Those are some *classic* SNES RPGs!
NEW ANALOGY FOR SUPER MARIO RPG, CAUSE MY FIRST ONE SUCKED.
Ahem. Sure, the first car ever was important, but do we still drive it now?
I like how they completely disregard the fact that back then you couldn't always go to the arcades to play the better version, and that the port was the best way they could reproduce it at the time.
Rock and Roll Racing: "Wow this is 90s" No fucking shit...
Out of this World: Obviously they would say that on the box, they are trying to sell it. It only said that back then, not now. It doesn't take a minute of commentary to figure it out.
I don't hate these guys, they just need to be informed
Chrono Trigger or MW are also my favourites. Mario RPG is the best Mario RPG I've played. LTTP is the best Zelda, but OOT is close.
I hope that there will be Sonic Generations discussion.
@RayKidd227 I mean after relase.
@zomgcontraishard They're just talking and having a good time. More fun they have - we have as well.
Just one more thing, Earthbound wasn't popular back then, when people were not too into RPGs to begin with. Earthbound took a few years to truly catch on. I cant say ive played a lot of snes games, but i can say that, out of the ones ive played, i like earthbound or yoshis island the most.
Atleast Bionic commando is already fairly dark in its setting alone,bomber man is very light heated
It didn't sell well originally because Nintendo didn't market it well at the time. They didn't have a lot of advertisements for it and for the few that they did, it didn't portray the game in the best light. That's why it didn't sell as well as it could have. Pocky and Rocky is ridiculously fun but only if you have a friend
I know this is back in 2011, and I *MAY* have commented on this via my other channel, but Aladdin's SNES game is EASY! You can beat that game in less than 1 hour if you're good. Less than 20 minutes if tool-assisted.
Over 2 hours of new BrainScratch. YES!
