      Please discuss tea tree oil. Apparently, it's an antibacterial ingredient that fades blemishes. Could it be used as an effective substitute for vitamin c to fade hyperpigmentation? Also, at what concentration would it be considered effective? The Body Shop is known for its Tea Tree Oil, and I think it consists of 20% of the overall product.

      Niacinimide. Is there any benefit to a 10% serum? Or is a smaller amount added to a moisturizer enough.

    i'm pretty sure that i've said this before, but i'd like to say again, that your channel is so amazingly informative, super interesting, and everybody interested in skincare should be watching it! it's so great to have a person break down the benefits of and analyse something, rather than just saying "this is amazing, it costs $300, you should definitely try it!!" :D and it's thanks to your advice that i've started using retinol at 32, when no dermatologist has ever recommended it to me, suggesting i go with injections and weird laser treatments instead, that are completely unnecessary in my case, and as a result my skin is now awesome. love your personality, knowledge, and channel so much

    • @LabMuffinBeautyScience
      @LabMuffinBeautyScience  4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      I think it's based on a very famous study on pig skin - I think it's likely that it forms a reservoir, but it's hard to say for sure if it works in the same number of days on people, or with every formulation.

    I love the timeless vitamin c with ferulic acid and vitamin E, it is exactly the same as the skincuticals. I get mine from YesStyle as it is the cheapest way for us in Australia. It is a coloured plastic bottle with a pump, which it means that it doesn't oxides as fast. I truly enjoy that and I do feel it has helped me with hyper pigmentation, due to being slack with sunscreens 😔🤦🏼‍♀️

    • @SaheeliRai

      It is possible that these already oxidized because they were stored for too long or under 'bad' conditions (heat/sunlight).Look at the ingredients! if there is nothing that explains the colour it is the oxidizedvitamin c

    I think the most important thing about finding a GOOD Vitamin C is finding one that does not oxidize and has L Ascorbic Acid.
    We make one if anyone wants to take a peek. We add gold ( an antioxidant that keeps the Vitamin C stable so it does not oxidize.)You can actually SEE the Natural Vitamin C and it looks nice and orange. We are a small business and small batched manufacturer.

    Hi! Ive seem many water + asorbic acid formulas + glycerin or aloe, and sometimes just water. Ive learned how unstable the C from your talks under these conditions - but does that instability render the newly made 'unstable' serum useless right away? Would it work for a short time? Like 2 days and then throw away? I bought some ascorbic and am learning that perhaps I should just buy the product. However, on that note.....how do you know the product is stable......results!? Thank you!

    Hi Michelle! I wanted to ask you whether we can combine Indeed Labs Vitamin C24 Facial Creme which you recommended with iUnik Tea Tree serum? I've read that we shouldn't combine vitamin C with niacinamide, and there's some in this serum. Thanks :)

      I have this question also! You and Beck mentioned that Vitamin C needs to work on the skin at a specific PH, does that mean it should always be applied to clean dry skin - before any other products? Would a hydrating toner help or hurt with Vitamin C absorption?

    Is there any other derivative that could work for PIH in very sensitive skin? Any l-ascorbic acid breaks me out

    • @lorainemcgillivray77
      @lorainemcgillivray77 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a lot of ingredients that help with PIH that are less irritating on sensitive skin eg niacinamide, licorice, alpha arbutin, azelaic acid, konjac acid, tranexamic acid etc etc etc. I can't tolerate l ascorbic acid due to the low ph and stopped using it completely. There are many videos from Dermatologists, Cosmetic formulators, master Estheticians on youtube re pigmentation and the different ingredients that can help. Best of luck.

    Is there a chance that you can do an update on the controversy about coral reefs and sunscreen? I saw the last video you posted was 2 years ago and I was wondering if there was more info you found out recently bc I’m sure more research has surfaced. I watch SkinCareByHyram and he LOVES mineral sunscreen like Zinc oxide but in your video you said that research has shown the zinc oxide has harmed coral reefs. Thank you for ALL YOUR VIDEOS 🥳😘

      In warm weather pretty much everything flows more easily - sebum, cosmetic products, plus you sweat more, so I'd imagine that could affect how easily products come off your skin!

    This question is not Vitamin C related however I wanted to ask anyway! My fiancé is a welder, so everyday he comes home covered in dirt, metal, and everything else lol. He has oily skin and his pores are quite large and seem to be holding onto dirt. I have him use a salicylic acid wash, that he uses as a mask while he’s in the shower. Is there anything else you recommend to help??

    Hello... I'm Sanjukta from India, pursuing graduation in chemistry, I'm a big fan of yours, so lucky that found your channel...
    Do you please review some sunscreen brands available in my country please? I have super oily skin with too much acne, doctor suggested me PHOTOSTABLE (brand name) sunscreen, which makes it more oily, I use face compact to fix it, but it comes out with sweat every time, it's too much sunny n hot weather here. Please suggest me some tips( affordable, cause my pocketmoney is pretty poor, as I earn my money to continue my study) ... There is no nerdy skincare channel from my region😒
    So much thank you for your videos, they are so valuable to me. Loads of love ❤☺

      Hey you could try "La Shield matte gel spf 50 (white/orange tube)" (sometimes on discount on nykaa and amazon)..it's a physical sunscreen so you have to first rub it well into your hands and then work it onto your face. But it's amazing for preventing sun damage from tanning. Another thing you can do is apply some light translucent powder on top when the oiliness is too much. But honestly our weather is difficult to handle. There's no perfect solution.

    • @LabMuffinBeautyScience
      @LabMuffinBeautyScience  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@erezshahak8854 No it doesn't - as mentioned in the video, it's photoprotective! Most of the first studies performed on vitamin C were on its ability to protect skin from the sun...maybe she's confused it with AHAs? But even with those, day/night use makes no difference because the photosensitivity comes from the reaction with skin, not from the reaction with the sunlight.

      I watch her as well but most derms seem to say that it's okay as long as you use sunscreen over it. I've been using it that way and haven't seen any negative effects..I know anecdotal evidence but i have super hyperpigmentation prone skin and live in a scorching hot country.
      Just fyi, Dr Rattan is not a dermatologist...she is a doctor in a different field. I find this misleading since her viewers are probably led to believe that she is a derm.

    Okay so i still have a doubt. Is it necessary to increase the concentration of vitamin c as your skin adjusts to it? I used the klairs freshly juiced vitamin drop 5% l-ascorbic acid which was mentioned in the video, but i was planning to get either 15% or 21% next. I couldn’t due to covid, but now i’m frequently wondering if we really need to raise the % of these products. Do they not work anymore?

  • @FuriedHearts
    @FuriedHearts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is the lowest minimum percentage you can go with ascorbic acid and still be effective? I hear it's 5% and I hear others say it's 8%? I am really into DIY'ing my vitamin C lately due to the stability issues in formulation and the expense.
    Do you think there is a benefit to applying a serum that contains ferulic acid + vitamin E on top of my DIY plain ascorbic acid serum? I know the ferulic + E stabilizes ascorbic acid in solution but I'm wondering if there would be a benefit to applying them as two separate serums?
    Just curious... because my recent routine involves applying my 10% plain DIY vitamin C, allow it to dry and applying a THD ascorbate + ferulic acid + vitamin E serum (by Peter Thomas Roth) on top.

    Does Vit c during the daytime work as well for skin of darker colours..? Skin of colour specialist doctors do not recommend vit c during the daytime as it might lead to the worsening of hyperpigmentation..thoughts??

    • @BeckWynta
      @BeckWynta 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I’ve found such positive responses in treating hyperpigmentation when using vitamin c and I tend to use it during the day because my night time routine is a bit more complicated and I like to space actives out. This far I’ve never noticed my hyperpigmentation worsening with vit c usage. Spf is also paramount 😊

    • @BeckWynta

      Oh also, if you use a vitamin c which is too strong and irritates your skin then yes it can darken your hyperpigmentation because melanocyte cells products melanin in response to inflammation x
