  • PS Waverley Cruise, 27 May 2023
A cruise on the oldest passenger carrying, ocean going paddlesteamer in the world.
I talk us through the history of the vessel, the route, and some of the fascinating historical sites we pass on the way. We also have a wee delve into some geology and natural history.
The background music incidently, is the Hebrides Overture by Felix Mendelssohn, who was inspired to write the piece after visiting the area.

I only have knowledge because I seek it everywhere I go. Every day is a school day thankfully 😉

I enjoyed my trip on the Waverley from my comfy chair at home , I never knew there were all those castles in and around the Mull area 😮. As always I enjoy your videos where ever you take us and your knowledge of those places is informative. Thankyou for all you do

Great info and video. I did the sail Oban to Skye sail a few days later past Eigg and Rhum in beautiful weather. Waverley is an iconic ship of yesteryear.

I was on the Waverley in the late 70's when my primary school went on a trip.

I really want to go on a trip on the Waverley. It's just trying to find the time and money to do so. I might have to wait until next summer before I can go on my wee Waverley trip.

I think she is back in Scotland in October for a week or two before she heads for her winter overhaul. I'll probably pick up another day cruise next year, I was transfixed the whole time.

Well Mrs. Wumman, that was a great day, I only sat for two brief ten minutes, and spent the rest eight hours on my feet. I never thought that I'd ever sail again in my life, but this was the best sail ever! I also met two dear friends Tony and Lynn, They have come and taken me out for a lovely bacon roll and a refreshing mug of tea! After a wee drive to see Ganavan, made it a lovely day too! While on the Waverley, Julie was able to take off with her camera, knowing that I was exercising my jaws, and talking a gramophone to scrap iron! After all the wonderful scenery, I did not want to come off the ship, but knew better than play up, as the Hippie was meeting us on the pier. I just cannot wait till my next sail, so watchout Calmac I'm after you! old Tich.

I was deck crew on her in the mid to late 90s, great ship to work on, horrible ship to live on for 7 months at a time...

I imagine the dorms aren't a pleasant place. But it must have been some experience!

@ExploringScotlandsHistory it was a great ship to get trained on, alot of old school techniques, it was a good laugh as well, the crew were brilliant
