thanks for watching my dude. My thing is I don't have ridiculous expectations for RCs under the 300 dollar price range. This is still the biggest, fastest, big-block nitro truck you can get for under 300 bucks new. It's not as great as the revo but better than the overpriced T-maxx.

Sweet! I wanna see a real bash session now! In terms of the tune: -Your HSN needed to be backed off at approx 2hrs to rid of that throttle pull lean bog. Also, it could have been that you were running on fumes so naturally, you'll lean bog under load towards the bottom of the tank. Only you can answer that since none of us were there. -LSN: Don't worry about what online forum "tune experts" have to say. A good LSN starting point on any engine is flush with the carb housing and tune from there. Your ear, throttle feel and in some cases, smoke level will tell you if the engine is happy with your LSN setting. Anyone can tell you "hey, I have that engine and two full turns in on the LSN is perfect." Well, what works for them won't work for you. What if the person advising lives in Denver while you're in NY? Always tune by ear and throttle feel! All else is a guide at best.

exactly, I was surprised. That stainless steel screw was the whole issue with the steering. What i like about this as I say in many vids is that it's only got 2 diffs, instead of 3, like most buggies and truggies. Thats why this can actually wheelie.

Glad to see yours shifts, my tornado s30 has 2 gears but it doesn’t shift and we’ve done the adjustments. Does it need a new and more reliable transmission?
hey buddy!! Chances are you need to screw in the adjustment set screws in the trans all the way in first, then back them out. Sometimes this works. Sometimes the spring inside which is under tension is jammed or just broken, and you might need to take the 2-speed trans unit apart. It's not really that hard, just be careful of where things go and take pictures.

whats up man!! You got a huge choice with nitros, what matters is if you want a big block .21 engine or a small block, .18 or .15. Id say for the price and spec this is a good one to start with and it won't leave you wanting more right away. Ofcourse any traxxas nitro is great too, but a t-maxx will be around 150-200 more. But you will have a nice electric start system for that money.

Hey Nitro Guru. I also bought a Earthquake 3.5 off of eBay back in 2018. Got a great deal, looked to be in top top shape. Shame on me but I quickly looked at it when it was delivered but I never even checked it out in detail or tried to start it until just recently. Something seemed funny with it so I disassembled the engine. Sure enough, the housing of the one way bearing was sheared in two! I ordered a new one but I'm not confident that the engine had been assembled correctly. Question - do you know of an exploded view or schematic for a SH .21 engine? I've searched everywhere but can't find. I want to make sure that I reassemble correctly after I received the new OWB. This one has the electric start kit, no pullstart, and I'm not sure of the orientation of the backplate or of the electric start unit. Thanks!
hey my dude!! Nitro Guru is here!! LOL. It sounds like your are saying your pull start itself was bad, right? Because the only thing the one way bearing is sits in is the plastic pull start, all the other parts are the backplate which is metal. I just looked at my own model to check, and this engine is exactly the same in terms of assembly as any nitro motor, meaning the pull start or any rotostart will only go in one direction (you will notice the backplate is a particular shape with a side sticking out on top - this is how you will align your new assembly). You need to first check if the engine spins over by moving the flywheel with your fingers before you do anything, also would be useful to remove the cooling head and inspect if it actually moves and add some oil (wd-40 is fine, 3 in 1 is fine, aftersun oil is ideal). Let me know. The exploded parts won't help you here, if it moves freely then you should just leave it alone.
Awesome, thanks, I’ll check out that manual link. This truck didn’t have a pull start. It already had the electric start plate installed when I got it. But the one way bearing was literally broken in half. There’s a metal piece around the bearing that fell apart into 2 pieces when I removed it. The metal was sheared. I had the entire engine taken apart earlier, all internals were clean and moved nicely. All I need to do is replace OWB and put it back together again. Correctly. :)

hey bro!! glad you liked this video and found it usefull. Honestly you don;t need any significant upgrades here at all, if you don't really hardcore abuse any RC it should never really need major upgrades. This one is faily light for such a huge engine and hsould be fine. You upgrade one thing, then the next weaker part fails, better to just keep stuff stock and cheap.
yup, I replaced it with a shorter screw eventually. Just such a basic thing, I;m highly surprised the previous owner could not have figured that out. lol.
I would have guessed that this was a piece of shit but it seems to be fine. You lucked out with this find for dirt cheap with some fixes. Good for you man. Have fun with it.
I bought the earthquake 3.5 and I am having trouble breaking in my engine. I have to open the throttle al the way for it to start. When it does I then throttle it down but it keeps cutting off.
hey man!! thanks for watching! Can you tell me if your carb settings are correct? Meaning when your carb closes do you see enough of an idle gap there. If not, adjust your idle set screw some. Let me know, this is the first place to start looking.
@@hybrid32494 I set the high and low screw to factory specs and I do not know about the idle gap. Please explain further if you do not mind and have the time too.
glad to help my dude!! you need to visually look inside the carb (where it opens) and observe if your idle gap is big enough. This is done by pressing full brake and looking to see if there is some gap in the carb opening for air to get through. If it's really small, (like under .4mm) then turn the Idle screw clockwise to increase the gap until the truck no longer turns of when you apply the brakes. Let me know. It should be not more than 1mm at most.
hey buddy! What's up. Can you tell me if you tried to adjust your 2-speed shifting point? that's the only way to get it to shift earlier or later. BTW, you gotta first be sure that your engine is'nt too rich, and it's hitting the higher RPM range and not bogging down. Without the higher RPM the 2-speed clutch won't engage unless you adjust it to engage extremely early.
hey my guy!! I've beeb making many newer videos on this RC, you should watch them, I don't put down Redcat like most people, sure they have some issues, but they are also much cheaper, you know. It's cool for what it is. I also have the redcat rampage rally and some other models.

hey buddy! I gotta say, the tuning of this carb is highly unpredictable because it's such a terrible design. I just googled it and it says the HSN is flush with the top and the LSN is flush with the carb body. I highly recommend replacing the carb if possible, otherwise just run it as long as it runs without overheating.

Norm Yup i know right!! But the good thing is its got a normal 1/8 scale drivetrain whuch means its got alot of low end torque, way better than the traxxas revo, and its lighter.
ok i own one of these and the hsn set it at 2 1/2 turns out from closed 4 turns is too much for a broke in engine typically the hsn is 2-2 1/2 the gas tank has vacume isues at 1/2 a tank of gas i run mine at about 2 1/4 turns out for the hsn and about the same for the lsn
hey man, I've gotten a new gas tank for this, but have not made any update videos on this because I've been occupied with the PRIMAL MT. I highly doubt it's been broken in correctly, probably just one or 2 tanks at most. Considering people who get redcat nitros are usually beginners.

hey man, I would love to work on and fix your nitro, but trust me that shipping alone would be cost prohibitive. I would estimate each way would cost like around 30+ dollars, not wroth it. Chances are you need to lean your high speed needle out by a quarter turn to begin with. That means turn it clockwise to close it some. Try that, and eventually you will notice it will not shut off as much or at all.
hey my nitro brother!! thanks for watching. So far this truck does what I want pretty well, other than it's not tuned well yet. But still. Its got much more off the line power than any traxxas and seems to even be faster than a revo. I will check the speeds soon.
hey man!! YUP, the 30CC rovan baja is on their website, that was my first 1/5 scale. I still have it, and it's terrific, not a single issue so far, and it's quick, I hit 42 MPH with it on a relatively normal tune.

Awesome, thanks, I’ll check out that manual link. This truck didn’t have a pull start. It already had the electric start plate installed when I got it. But the one way bearing was literally broken in half. There’s a metal piece around the bearing that fell apart into 2 pieces when I removed it. The metal was sheared. I had the entire engine taken apart earlier, all internals were clean and moved nicely. All I need to do is replace OWB and put it back together again. Correctly. :)

Yeah I hate that the air filter on the earthquake is so dang loose... It turns out it needs the zip tie on there.

hey bro!! glad you liked this video and found it usefull. Honestly you don;t need any significant upgrades here at all, if you don't really hardcore abuse any RC it should never really need major upgrades. This one is faily light for such a huge engine and hsould be fine. You upgrade one thing, then the next weaker part fails, better to just keep stuff stock and cheap.

yup, I replaced it with a shorter screw eventually. Just such a basic thing, I;m highly surprised the previous owner could not have figured that out. lol.
I would have guessed that this was a piece of shit but it seems to be fine. You lucked out with this find for dirt cheap with some fixes. Good for you man. Have fun with it.
I bought the earthquake 3.5 and I am having trouble breaking in my engine. I have to open the throttle al the way for it to start. When it does I then throttle it down but it keeps cutting off.
hey man!! thanks for watching! Can you tell me if your carb settings are correct? Meaning when your carb closes do you see enough of an idle gap there. If not, adjust your idle set screw some. Let me know, this is the first place to start looking.
@@hybrid32494 I set the high and low screw to factory specs and I do not know about the idle gap. Please explain further if you do not mind and have the time too.
glad to help my dude!! you need to visually look inside the carb (where it opens) and observe if your idle gap is big enough. This is done by pressing full brake and looking to see if there is some gap in the carb opening for air to get through. If it's really small, (like under .4mm) then turn the Idle screw clockwise to increase the gap until the truck no longer turns of when you apply the brakes. Let me know. It should be not more than 1mm at most.
I have a problem with mine where it won’t go into second gear please help.
hey buddy! What's up. Can you tell me if you tried to adjust your 2-speed shifting point? that's the only way to get it to shift earlier or later. BTW, you gotta first be sure that your engine is'nt too rich, and it's hitting the higher RPM range and not bogging down. Without the higher RPM the 2-speed clutch won't engage unless you adjust it to engage extremely early.

hey my guy!! I've beeb making many newer videos on this RC, you should watch them, I don't put down Redcat like most people, sure they have some issues, but they are also much cheaper, you know. It's cool for what it is. I also have the redcat rampage rally and some other models.

hey buddy! I gotta say, the tuning of this carb is highly unpredictable because it's such a terrible design. I just googled it and it says the HSN is flush with the top and the LSN is flush with the carb body. I highly recommend replacing the carb if possible, otherwise just run it as long as it runs without overheating.

Norm Yup i know right!! But the good thing is its got a normal 1/8 scale drivetrain whuch means its got alot of low end torque, way better than the traxxas revo, and its lighter.
if you dont run a failsafe, how do you know when to stop?
I generally stop when I 've have enough!!! ahhahah JK. This has a failsafe that actuvates if you loose radio signal or it shuts of somehow.

ok i own one of these and the hsn set it at 2 1/2 turns out from closed 4 turns is too much for a broke in engine typically the hsn is 2-2 1/2 the gas tank has vacume isues at 1/2 a tank of gas i run mine at about 2 1/4 turns out for the hsn and about the same for the lsn
If it goes into 2nd gear it should be broken-in, but who knows if properly.
hey man, I've gotten a new gas tank for this, but have not made any update videos on this because I've been occupied with the PRIMAL MT. I highly doubt it's been broken in correctly, probably just one or 2 tanks at most. Considering people who get redcat nitros are usually beginners.
Is there any chance that i could sent me nitro truck of to u so u could have look at it n maybe fix it for me i used it once and have no clue about nitros it starts up then wen u give it gas it cuts off
The high speed needle is most likely too rich. Try turning it in until it doesn't stall when you give it gas
hey man, I would love to work on and fix your nitro, but trust me that shipping alone would be cost prohibitive. I would estimate each way would cost like around 30+ dollars, not wroth it. Chances are you need to lean your high speed needle out by a quarter turn to begin with. That means turn it clockwise to close it some. Try that, and eventually you will notice it will not shut off as much or at all.

hey my nitro brother!! thanks for watching. So far this truck does what I want pretty well, other than it's not tuned well yet. But still. Its got much more off the line power than any traxxas and seems to even be faster than a revo. I will check the speeds soon.

hey man!! YUP, the 30CC rovan baja is on their website, that was my first 1/5 scale. I still have it, and it's terrific, not a single issue so far, and it's quick, I hit 42 MPH with it on a relatively normal tune.

I fully agree, I;'ve never seen anyone try to drill the wheel off with the wheel hub itself. At least the engine seems fine and not rusty.

hey dude, I have since tried everything possible to fix the weird running issues. And it came down to a bad carb, once I replaced this stock carb with a different one the issues went away.
@@hybrid32494 those sh carbs are usually pretty solid, but they can leak at the idle screw. A touch larger o-ring usually fixes it.
