I agree with you. Some cats purr their way through the job. With other cats, I find that I only get a certain "window" to work within, before things turn nasty. Also, there is a danger of cutting too close to the quick if you try to do too much all at once.

Hi Tardis!!! Such a handsome boy!!! He’s a angel compared to my baby girl when I try cutting her nails. If I tried doing her back paws I’d probably need a skin graft by the end.
if you dont have a table like me and are using the floor, you will have to wrap it about twice as tight while scruffing your cat, then put your knee (and ALL of your body weight) onto that little extra flap of towel you get after the second wrap (the one that is touching the other towel, not the cat's body). Make sure the cat can breath when you put your knee down on the flap. Then you swing your other knee over the cat's body so you are straddling him. This next part is difficult to explain . . . but basically you cross your ankles and lock them together, then slowly lower your rear down onto the cat, adding just a little weight on its body for extra reinforcement. If he turns into jelly and almost breaks free, you can leverage your weight even more to your rear end and hopefully "trap" him so that you have enough time to gain control and re-wrap him. Finally, if he still manages to wriggle through you can use your ankles, which is why I said to cross and lock them. With your rear weight down on the cat you can sorta point your feet upwards to form a little cup; another obstacle the cat will have to get through which will buy you a few precious seconds.
Thank you SO MUCH. I always bring my cat to my vet to have her nails trimmed, and I had no idea until the last time I brought her in that she was actually being aggressive in there and they wouldn't accept her again if she wasn't more calm. I literally wait for my cats to go into rem sleep cycle (where they start dreaming and you will see them like twitching in their sleep) at this point they're really out of it and my one cat she will only let me get 1-2 claws done before she realizes what's going on and snaps at me, and my other cat I can almost get one paw done before he starts snarling and hissing and biting at me.
I have the 26 pound former feral who will swallow pills put into his mouth, doesn't care about getting eye drops - but nails? You'd think I was cutting his toes off. THIS WORKED! I had tried wrapping him before but this whole method, how the cat is facing the short end of the exam table (I have Craftsman Rolling Tool Cabinet I converted into a kitchen storage island and it makes a great vet exam table), how you lean this way, turn the cat around that way, etc - it WORKED!! I got all nails clipped in just two attempts. Thanks!!!
@cooki47 I've come to learn that our first/black cat hates feeling confined. So my husband and I just team up. One holds her, the other trims as many in that sitting as possible while being mindful of the quick. She has a black claw too, so extra careful there. Had we raised her from kitten, we'd have conditioned her to enjoying being held. Back in September we rescued a feral - trimming him ain't happening for at least a year. I just take the win when I can boop his nose "accidentally." 👀
My boy I found outside this winter (I live in the middle of nowhere and cat dumping is a common thing but he's the first in a while I found alive) and he's super friendly, wants cuddles all the time and once he started actually eating his nails grew like weeds and I've discovered thus far, he loves his brushing but a complete different cat with his nails. Did a kitty death roll on my arm, had stolen and hid the clippers 3 times now. So we'll try this again with towel
My cat would bite my hands and maybe kill me if I tried that😂 The way I do it is to cut only one nail at a time (like one a day) before she gets to go out in the yard every morning. She doesn’t like it, but she can just barely tolerate one nail being cut because she knows it’s her ticket outside. I leave the clippers by the door.
I thought I was the only person my cat will kill if I did his nails. Today at the Vet, after sedation last night and before today's appointment, the nurse managed his hind paws. Relief, that she was not clawed by my beautiful Ragdoll. Temper, temper though!! Right now he is sleeping next to me, so angelic looking. 😅😅
You made it look so easy! 😂 nope that would not be my cat. I would be lucky if I managed to wrap a towel around his body let alone get to the point of being allowed to trim his nails 🤣
Thank you for this! It 100% helped with one of our difficult cats. I will be trying it out on my big boy here in a bit. He's a bit of a biter so it's unclear how I will fare lol
My cat is polydactyl so trimming his claws is very necessary but he just will not sit still and I can usually only trim one claw before he wiggles away. His vet has no trouble doing it whatsoever though, he stays calm when she does it 😐
I looked this up for an example to show a friend how crazy cats can be getting their nails clipped so he can see how well I trained my own cat. I subscribed because the cat's name is tardis
Very nice. I've got one very timid cat with some incredible nails that need trimming. We've still got a ways to go with the trust thing. I think the burrito approach is great because I was badly clawed by a different cat while giving it a bath and still have the scars to prove it.
Thank you. This was helpful. I am going to need a muzzle though. I just adopted a 6 yr. Old that snapped at me when I tried to touch her paw. I can't cuddle with this cat, cause she kneeds me and her nails are too painful. I cant afford a fancy muzzle. Any DIY suggestions?
I came here mostly for the comments. My kitten is very sweet, but she turns into that girl from the exorcist when I try to trim her nails. My other cat is fine. She snarls, but let’s me do it and I calmly talk to her. I’m glad there are other cats like my younger one and I am not alone….
I get some crazy bites when my sweet girl can’t get away! Most times I’m lucky to get through one paw with minimal damage, it is the right paw that is a killer, I’m right handed and the way I have to hold her is perfect for her teeth. Within 30 minutes after we’re done she is very apologetic.😹
I watched several videos on this and you’re the best. I have to trim a friend’s cat’s nails and it’s been at least 25yrs since I did my cat’s. My cats were all easy because we started when they were babies but this is not my cat and I don’t want to make a mistake 🙀🤞🏻
A really useful video with no expensive kit to get to do it,as I have many scars on my legs from my cat Dominos back claws this method will save my legs 👍😀
My cat tries to scare jump me by sudden extension or removal of the one paw or his head towards me. Does any other cat do this? And she growls and hisses lol
Mine didn't sit still for purrito. He was moving and hissing the entire time. Eventually I got him wrapped, what I thought was good. Was able to clean and medicate his ears and got a back foot out. On the 2nd nail, all four sets of claws came out and he started shredding the towel. I held on pretty good until he shredded me in 3 places. I had him in a room with the door shut so he couldn't leave, and weirdly he went on my desk and sat panting. I brought out the cat carrier and he walked in no issues. I still cannot get him out, nor get a leg to clip nails
I like the clear example of how to make the kitty burrito. My polydactyl cat screams bloody murder when I attempt any nail trimming, even just holding her paw - and I have to keep bringing her to the vets to do it at $30 every 6 weeks. UGH. I'll be giving this burrito wrap a try. fingers crossed!
mine hates it, I just embraced the fact that no matter what I do, she hates me clipping her nails. I just take a blanket, grab her and wrap her mid-air in a burrito and stick her between my legs so she can't move. After 10-15 seconds she stops trying to move as she knows she's stuck there, she calms down and lets me do the job fast. I give her a lot of treats afterwards and she gets back to her usual business
@@davidgibson1893 scruffing a cat only works on cats that want to stay still, scruffing just lets them know you would like them to be still. If it actually worked on an angry or scared cat, animal control wouldn't need those noose poles. Someone else suggested those plastic cone collars that they use on cats and dogs after surgery. I think a combination of the cone collar and the burrito wrap would probably work well
My cat is normally very sweet but she absolutely hates having her claws trimmed. I have no idea why because I’ve never ever cut the pink part or hurt her in any way, but she won’t tolerate it at all. Maybe she had a bad experience with it before I adopted her? If I try to burrito her she will squirm right out or try to bite me and she NEVER tries to bite me otherwise. I give up I’m just gonna take her to the groomer -_-
Good video. I tried this before I saw the video and made some errors (although I'm sure as soon as I rolled the towel over her front paws, she'd be off). This cat was getting angry at least (in some videos they are so compliant) but my cat tried to bite my hand as soon as I had one nail but dithered too long. Love the comments on here, makes me realise I'm not the only one with a cat that is simply not having it.
I was asking my browser "can I drug my cat to trim her nails," and I didn't get past "drug" before it new what I was after, and I ended up here. Pray for me!
Lol. But my cat likes to bite. My hand, my arm, the nail clippers. Everything. Sometimes I catch him chewing on the bathroom faucet. He's not really into petting. He only likes to play.
This doesn't work for my cat. : ( He turns into an angry tornado when I clip his nails. I even give a treat between EACH nail clip, and he always draws blood and goes for my face or wrists. I just clipped his front and back claws only on the right, and came away with 2 bleeding bites and 3 scratches.
My cat will contort and squirm right out of that “burrito”, all the while biting the crap out of me! This cat was angelic in comparison!

Back in September we rescued a feral - trimming him ain't happening for at least a year. I just take the win when I can boop his nose "accidentally." 👀
That strategy is a smart one! Kudos to you!
Sorry y'all, reading about your difficult cats in the comments is cracking me uppp. 😂 Gotta love those lil rascals!
My cat would bite my hands and maybe kill me if I tried that😂
The way I do it is to cut only one nail at a time (like one a day) before she gets to go out in the yard every morning.
Looks like a well fed Kitty.
I've had cats for 40 years and never had to trim their nails. They do use the scratching post a lot.
Maam,
The way of trimming is just awesome.... good one
You have the best Kitty Burrito video. Thanks!
HAHAHAHA "We're going to take a break"

Returns with band aid on arm
Thank you for THISS! The towel wrap is so simple, but soo effective. Burrito cats!
I just used this method to trim my cats claws after numerous failed attempts. Thank you ❤
Thank you so much for this video!!!! I need to trim my cats talons and he's a squirmer!!! Much appreciated!!!
Just tried to cut my cats nails & now I have two deep bite marks on my hand 😒
Just scruff
Holy .... This helped me actually cut my big blender's nails today. Thank you!! AND put his flea drops on. Thank you twice. 😸😸😸😸😸
I was hoping you would actually do it on a difficult cat. Which was like the purpose of the video I thought.
thank you! This is so helpful! i used this on my cat because the vet forgot to trim the claw.
This cat is very calm that you could cover him and work on it
My cat is a demon!
You need too scruff them
Mine too, he makes me bleed all the time!! I need to take a different approach when trimming his paws.
So first you make a purrito, then you get an angry meow and your hand starts bleeding, then what?
I get some crazy bites when my sweet girl can’t get away! Most times I’m lucky to get through one paw with minimal damage, it is the right paw that is a killer, I’m right handed and the way I have to hold her is perfect for her teeth. Within 30 minutes after we’re done she is very apologetic.😹
Helena: liquid bandaid I keep handy these days. A drop over the hole in my old lady skin, usually stops the bleed out.
After three nails, my cat acts like it needs a break 😂😂
Thanks for this! Will try and update with our experience, of course.
I have to completely cover my cat with a blanket. She still gets out, act like she's in a cat fight.
This is absolutely not a difficult cat. Put my cat in a burrito?? No way.
He's not difficult because of the burrito.
😂
My cat finds a way to break out of any burrito. She absolutely hates feeling confined. It makes her panic
I watched several videos on this and you’re the best.
I have to trim a friend’s cat’s nails and it’s been at least 25yrs since I did my cat’s. My cats were all easy because we started when they were babies but this is not my cat and I don’t want to make a mistake 🙀🤞🏻
I have 5 cats... Im gonna try this and see how it goes lol
A really useful video with no expensive kit to get to do it,as I have many scars on my legs from my cat Dominos back claws this method will save my legs 👍😀
Your cat is difficult? If I even handled my cat like the woman was handling Tardis I would not walk out alive...
Me too.
Strawberry will probably take me apart but I'm going to try it
😂
I usually get a pet groomer to cut Grayce's nails.....she would probably turn me into chopped meat. And she's usually very affectionate
So helpful. Thank you so much 🙏
My cat tries to scare jump me by sudden extension or removal of the one paw or his head towards me. Does any other cat do this? And she growls and hisses lol
Mmmm 🐈🌯🤤😸
Oh how random! I live next to gahanna 😂 had no idea I was watching a Columbus place!
I watched this for less than a minute b/c if I tried to wrap my cat up like that in a blanket, she would go nuts!
Thank you so much for this. I am scratched all over & have tried to cut my cats nails before to no avail. Will try this method…
Temptations is my magic weapon too when it comes to dealing with my cats, lol. I need to try this method.
I can't even get my cat on the towel...LOL!
Wow! Super surprised he didn't bite!
mine hates it, I just embraced the fact that no matter what I do, she hates me clipping her nails.
Oh,i hope this works! Thank you! I,m getting afraid of my tomcat. Hes already put one of us in the hospital with a bite that turned septic
“Kitty minutes” is so accurate. Lol.
My cat bites my fingers as I'm cutting I held her head up but then she bit my face 😂😭
Just scruff her
@@davidgibson1893 scruffing a cat only works on cats that want to stay still, scruffing just lets them know you would like them to be still. If it actually worked on an angry or scared cat, animal control wouldn't need those noose poles. Someone else suggested those plastic cone collars that they use on cats and dogs after surgery. I think a combination of the cone collar and the burrito wrap would probably work well
Awesome explanation. Thank you!
Thank you. It was informative.
My cat is way to feisty to do this 😭 he is a wiggle monster, a bitter, and a scratcher. I need full body armor to accomplish this 😂
This cat is real easy. My cat will shred me to pieces before I can get to trim the first claw.
Mr. Man!?! That's what Annie Wilkes says! LOL
Omg you are a true lifesaver. Thank you S O much!!!
Such a good kitty, mine soooo hate this process.
Can hardly believe it! It really really worked. Oh she sure didn't like it, but we made it through without any stitches required.)
