I was learning 3 years ago how to do all this TH-cam stuff, I’m not saying that I’m perfect now but this quality will never work for one of the videos I upload here now. I'd say the Terminator is the better car but the Cobra R is so rare, they only made 300 of them in 2000, but they made 19,140 Terminators Edit: I'm now 11 minutes into the video and you mentioned the production numbers anyways, my comment is now useless 😭
The even funnier part is,if people stopped to think,if the Cobra R had been Supercharged it would have smoked the Termi.I still have a Bias for the R because it was the ultimate n/a mustang racer boys dreamed of lol.
The R was a stripped down racecar that BARELY edged out a full weight street car with all the creature comforts. Also the R was max effort already where as the Terminator had plenty of room to go.
@@roymiller6964 Without the supercharger it would still have a fully forged bottom end and adding your choice of boost would be no issue. A lot of people upgrade the supercharger anyway. So it's a moot point.
@@AwesomeFinish I understand what you're saying but how many stock naturally aspirated 4.6 run 12 second quarter mile times. And I don't hate the 4.6 I just think the coyote is better in all aspects. And not everyone can afford a supercharger
I owned a 2000 R a few years ago and that car drove and handled so well. One of my favorite to drive. My friend has it now and I’d like to have a Termi in the near future.
Not quite that easy but it could be done, an intercooler would have to be added, the compression ratio is a little high etc. If you look at the 2007ish gt500s they were essentially the Cobra R motor with the blower and they made 500hp stock
Great video. You did an awesome job and it takes more time than people realize to make videos like this. I feel the Terminator was pretty much all the Cobra R was, but more. Obviously more track focused with the R, but the Cobra has so much more potential with just pulley and blower swaps. Cobra Rs are also so limited at 300 made. It’s good for collectibility but the numbers produced on the terminator allows more people to have them and still be limited production. I’m glad you mentioned the under-ratings of both as it’s often overlooked

@@TheMGChannel theres no video but as you prob know muscle mustang and fast fords did a comparo years ago back when the 03 cobra came out. They were very close in a drag race and the cobra r obviously did better around the track and handling stuff. Both cars are underrated...one rated 385 one 390 but both put down closer to that to the rear tires and that is THROUGH AN IRS which is known ti rob more driveline loss vs a solid axle. Many ppl dont know when the terminator was in development they actually seriously considered an na 5.4 similar to what the cobra r had but umtimately decided to go the route the lightning did and just add a blower to the 4.6. They decided to throw in forged internals when the regular rods from the previous na cobras couldnt hold up in testing with the blower on it because they have to really beat on them in testing to prove durability.

I read the article that they made comparing the R to the Terminator when the 03 cobra came out, that’s where I got a lot of data for this video.The R is definitely the better Track car, with its fuel cell and suspension tuned for road corse, the Terminator did a little bit of everything while still being a great street car. Both cars where the best that they had to offer back then no doubt

You could throw a blower on an r also because they too have forged internals but they dont make much stuff specially for that car because its so rare. @@TheMGChannel yea and the cobra r was always my answer to the gm guys back in the day claiming ford couldnt make na power (i know its stupid but thats gm guys for ya lol) i would bring up how the r was 5.4 na and doing 375 to the tires bone stock thats more power than the 5.7 ls6 had in the z06 at the time (which didnt start till 2001..even the better 405 horse versions that came later didnt put down that much power stock they were around 350ish). The cobra r was an animal. Ford could make power na they just choose to use a blower on the 03 cobra because they were specifically trying to make it have more grunt down low because many na 4.6 cobra fans complained of the lack of low end torque on the na versions so they didnt just wanna make 400ish hp and torque they wanted to give it more meat in the midrange which is ultimately one of the main reasons they choose to go with a blown 4.6 over the na 5.4 they were originally discussing for the 03 cobra concept so to speak. It was a huge deal for ford guys back then we couldn't wait till the "terminator" hit the streets so we could shut gm up once and for all. Good times
Great comparison. My friend has the #73 2000R. I've seen it a few times when hes taken it to some local shows and when I've been at his house. Ever since I've known him I've joked about buying it but lately hes been dropping hints of selling it to me. Honestly Its still out of my price range and unless he offered it at a stupid low price I would not be able to get it anyway. Honestly between the two if I could get the R I really cant give up my dream of wanting to get the Terminator and every month that ticks by its closer and closer. Its hard to do youtube content with an R just b/c I would not want to drive it that much anyway, even with a Terminator I'm not going to drive it a ton either but there's a lot more opportunity for mods and content to do overall. I'm hoping to do a video on his R this summer he mentioned to me that he just got a new battery for it so hope to get a ride in it and maybe maaaayyybeee get to drive it.
Great video Miguel! I've had my Cobra for 16 years and even after that many years I still love the car very much. While the Cobra R was a very special car indeed, the Terminator was a much more well rounded car that took the Cobra R performance concept and made it practical for the street and available. So in my opinion the Terminator is the better car; but it would not exsist if there wasn't a Cobra R. No matter what side of the fence you sit, both cars are truely amazing!
Yup, the R set the bar for what SVT needed to accomplish to deliver for the Terminator project. The R was the first 6 speed mustang, and the first 12 sec factory mustang that could keep up with corvette and viper. The R was the track focused car the Termi was a do it all type of car. That’s awesome James that you still love your cobra 🐍 after 16 years 👏🏻
Actually all rounder the 03/04 Cobra does it better, The R doesn’t have A/C, no radio, no backseat, no sound insulation, the R is more suited for the Track, the Terminator for street duty
@@TheMGChannel As in all-rounder I'm talking about Performance. Not creature comforts. The R has better handling (lateral acceleration & better braking), while also having a sufficient amount of speed (power & acceleration). It's also more responsive as if heard too. The regular Cobra only shines going straight when stock. And for me I don't care about having passengers, sound deafening, or no A/C. I bump my own music with a speaker. The Cobra R is a track car so gas prices are probably higher, but I'll be willing to pay that for a better all around driving in experience.
One a NA and one a blower car l think 03 04 is the better ones....03 04 SVT Cobra showed how you do it and made them blueprint for the hellcats and Camaro not the 2000 Cobra R
Look the terminators where cool and all but realistically the Terminator has lost in all categories as the Cobra R I one of 300. It won Le Mans and is one of a kind hand crafted mustang. Cobra R on top of it was much lighter then the terminator and the motor is one one of a kind engine with dual over head cam and the first mustang and only mustang till 2015 to have rear independent suspension and first mustang to come with brembos from factory. Obviosly the terminator is going to be slower as it is a everyday car that can be used and not souly a track race car like the Cobra R.

I'll take the cobra r over the terminator any day. the terminator had to use a supercharger to outrun the Cobra R. and the new mustang with the 5.0 is quicker than the terminator without a supercharger. and the Cobra R did 185 mph on the top end.

The reason it fared well is because its underrated and the 500 isnt. The gt500 was rated 110 hp more but normally only bests the cobra stock for stock by maybe 50 rwhp if that. The gt500 weighs 300 lbs more so that is why it is barely ahead of the terminator, it isnt rocket science. Seems unlikely if you go by rated numbers, cobra was underrated. They didnt underrate the gt500 rated it about where it should be that way it would seem like a big "upgrade" over the previous car. I love gt500s im actually in the process of buying an 07 and its def the better car top to bottom but the terminator is very good and is the reason there even is a gt500 or hellcat or zl1 or any of those cars. I have major respect for 03-04 cobras one of my fav stangs ever. The terminator has rods that are a little better but that is about the only edge it has. Everything else is better on the gt500 but its based on a newer better chassis and it has a bigger engine and blower. Its just natural progression. That dont mean cobras are bad theyre legendary. This is an interesting video.

The R was a part spin special, the bumper is the same bumper that was used on the 1999 cobra, it has GT mirrors, and the rear bumper is from a mustang V6
I HAVE A TERMINATOR AND RECENTLY I DROVE A 2000 COBRA R AND ON A TRACK THE COBRA R RUNS CIRCLES AROUND THE TERMINATOR AND IN A STRAIGHT LINE THERE VERY CLOSE BUT IN A ALL AROUND RACE THE COBRA R WINS.
I had an 01 Cobra that I loved, hell I slapped a Vortech V2 on her, got 390 hp, and blew the engine. I put another engine and sold her. I miss that car. I then purchased the 03 Terminator Cobra convertible, and it has been a ride for the good.

True they wont melt but leaving it outside all year takes a toll on any car .you can get a canopy for 250 dollars think its a good investment so your shit dont fade .
Well the two cars are kind of hard to compare becuase they are designed for a much different purpose. The Cobra R is an NA track monster, a terminator would not keep with a Cobra R. But for daily driving the Terminator was a better car. But both cars are becoming collectors

The analysis did not mention the amber tail lights on the R, super sought after part for hardcore enthusiasts of the Terminators, both of mine have them, cost me $1200. for 4 of them, the R was considered/designed to be a track car only, for the racing circuit, hard to find one under $50K, a blue-chip collector car as the Terminators are, I'd like to have one for sure, but my Terminators do just fine, always looking' for more, low mile creampuffs. The R's are in a special category, The rear wing is way over the top, like in Daytona & Superbird, but functional........
The Terminator... Simply because if you've got the cash in hand, there are more of them still out there, hence they're a little easier to find... Not much, but if you search hard enough, you'll locate one sooner than an "R"...
This is the best and most thorough review and comparison of these two iconic cars.Owned an 04 for eight years and it was pretty much king until the C6Z06 was released.My SVT friend bought not to compliment his 03.We did a 40-130 pull and he got me by about 80ft.In 07 I turned it around on him with a Whipple mod.But I could tell that he had cammed it since then.By the time I sold it,a Cobra R could not touch it on the track.Those R’s are more of a collector’s item,tho.

Too bad I don't live in America ... there are only two here in the Czech Republic. one 03 convertible in white and the other also 03 in coupe silver, but it has already been sold abroad. this car is just an amazing crush even in the M5 V10 😄
I've seen 3 Cobra Rs. One of them I know the owner been around it a bunch of times..honestly I like it more than my cobra .. but really if I was to have a cobra R id take the motor out an put a terminator engine in it..😆 I have had two terminators myself a mineral grey 03, An currently 10th anniversary silver metallic 03. AWESOME video, I have retired and bought a 2004 40th anniversary edition project car. 3.9l ,going to put a v8 in it. I now see what can be done. not so keen on the big spoiler on the cobra r but love the look other than that. going with a vader body kit.
I’ve only seen one cobra r in person and it wasn’t even on the road. My local Ford dealership had one inside and roped it off so no one could touch it… can’t say that I blame them. 😂

Pretty clear you favor the terminator. Now in 2021 both cars are rare. No doubt the 2000 is basically untouchable. It's a win win. One was built for the street and the other for the track. Neither can beat the other at what it was made for. The R is more rare, and more aggressive. Gonna cost more, and really wins all around. You didn't do a good job on being fair and honest.
That’s your opinion, I made a lot of points and back up all of my points with data, in fact most people agree with the video. The King of the New edge is indeed the Terminator cobra, that does not take away anything from the R. The R is a track monster for the era, the Terminator did everything well and actually dominated the competition of its era.
@@TheMGChannel the actual first supercharged Mustang was actually back in 1966 from Shelby in the GT350 although it was optional. 2003 was the first factory installed from Ford. Overall, great video though
That was the R’s down fall. So heavy for a track car. The cobra r weight is 3600 and coupe terminator is 3660. And it’s stripped interior is pretty disappointing.

I think for an all rounder Cobra R wins, but for the attainable street demon ... that title goes to the regular Cobra.
Actually all rounder the 03/04 Cobra does it better, The R doesn’t have A/C, no radio, no backseat, no sound insulation, the R is more suited for the Track, the Terminator for street duty
@@TheMGChannel As in all-rounder I'm talking about Performance. Not creature comforts. The R has better handling (lateral acceleration & better braking), while also having a sufficient amount of speed (power & acceleration). It's also more responsive as if heard too. The regular Cobra only shines going straight when stock.
And for me I don't care about having passengers, sound deafening, or no A/C. I bump my own music with a speaker. The Cobra R is a track car so gas prices are probably higher, but I'll be willing to pay that for a better all around driving in experience.

One a NA and one a blower car l think 03 04 is the better ones....03 04 SVT Cobra showed how you do it and made them blueprint for the hellcats and Camaro not the 2000 Cobra R
Look the terminators where cool and all but realistically the Terminator has lost in all categories as the Cobra R I one of 300. It won Le Mans and is one of a kind hand crafted mustang. Cobra R on top of it was much lighter then the terminator and the motor is one one of a kind engine with dual over head cam and the first mustang and only mustang till 2015 to have rear independent suspension and first mustang to come with brembos from factory. Obviosly the terminator is going to be slower as it is a everyday car that can be used and not souly a track race car like the Cobra R.

I'll take the cobra r over the terminator any day. the terminator had to use a supercharger to outrun the Cobra R. and the new mustang with the 5.0 is quicker than the terminator without a supercharger. and the Cobra R did 185 mph on the top end.

The reason it fared well is because its underrated and the 500 isnt. The gt500 was rated 110 hp more but normally only bests the cobra stock for stock by maybe 50 rwhp if that. The gt500 weighs 300 lbs more so that is why it is barely ahead of the terminator, it isnt rocket science. Seems unlikely if you go by rated numbers, cobra was underrated. They didnt underrate the gt500 rated it about where it should be that way it would seem like a big "upgrade" over the previous car. I love gt500s im actually in the process of buying an 07 and its def the better car top to bottom but the terminator is very good and is the reason there even is a gt500 or hellcat or zl1 or any of those cars. I have major respect for 03-04 cobras one of my fav stangs ever. The terminator has rods that are a little better but that is about the only edge it has. Everything else is better on the gt500 but its based on a newer better chassis and it has a bigger engine and blower. Its just natural progression. That dont mean cobras are bad theyre legendary. This is an interesting video.

Terminator is faster in straights, but the R handles better and it's a better circuit car, I would choose an R in a heartbeat

@@dalitsozulu9876 Not in my opinion, but everyone is entitled to one, the Terminator was clean up and giving its look by the same guy responsible for the look of the Ford GT, let that sink in for a second. The R was a part spin special, the bumper is the same bumper that was used on the 1999 cobra, it has GT mirrors, and the rear bumper is from a mustang V6
I HAVE A TERMINATOR AND RECENTLY I DROVE A 2000 COBRA R AND ON A TRACK THE COBRA R RUNS CIRCLES AROUND THE TERMINATOR AND IN A STRAIGHT LINE THERE VERY CLOSE BUT IN A ALL AROUND RACE THE COBRA R WINS.

I had an 01 Cobra that I loved, hell I slapped a Vortech V2 on her, got 390 hp, and blew the engine. I put another engine and sold her. I miss that car. I then purchased the 03 Terminator Cobra convertible, and it has been a ride for the good.
The Terminator was built to handle boost and abuse lol Those engines are bulletproof

The R is the king of the era but the terms cobras were fantastic vehicles

True they wont melt but leaving it outside all year takes a toll on any car .you can get a canopy for 250 dollars think its a good investment so your shit dont fade .
Well the two cars are kind of hard to compare becuase they are designed for a much different purpose. The Cobra R is an NA track monster, a terminator would not keep with a Cobra R. But for daily driving the Terminator was a better car. But both cars are becoming collectors

The analysis did not mention the amber tail lights on the R, super sought after part for hardcore enthusiasts of the Terminators, both of mine have them, cost me $1200. for 4 of them, the R was considered/designed to be a track car only, for the racing circuit, hard to find one under $50K, a blue-chip collector car as the Terminators are, I'd like to have one for sure, but my Terminators do just fine, always looking' for more, low mile creampuffs. The R's are in a special category, The rear wing is way over the top, like in Daytona & Superbird, but functional........

This is the best and most thorough review and comparison of these two iconic cars.Owned an 04 for eight years and it was pretty much king until the C6Z06 was released.My SVT friend bought not to compliment his 03.We did a 40-130 pull and he got me by about 80ft.In 07 I turned it around on him with a Whipple mod.But I could tell that he had cammed it since then.By the time I sold it,a Cobra R could not touch it on the track.Those R’s are more of a collector’s item,tho.

AWESOME video, I have retired and bought a 2004 40th anniversary edition project car. 3.9l ,going to put a v8 in it. I now see what can be done. not so keen on the big spoiler on the cobra r but love the look other than that. going with a vader body kit.
I’ve only seen one cobra r in person and it wasn’t even on the road. My local Ford dealership had one inside and roped it off so no one could touch it… can’t say that I blame them. 😂

The 00 Cobra R was the best factory New Edge, and the Terminator was the tuners king.
Pretty clear you favor the terminator. Now in 2021 both cars are rare. No doubt the 2000 is basically untouchable. It's a win win. One was built for the street and the other for the track. Neither can beat the other at what it was made for. The R is more rare, and more aggressive. Gonna cost more, and really wins all around. You didn't do a good job on being fair and honest.
That’s your opinion, I made a lot of points and back up all of my points with data, in fact most people agree with the video. The King of the New edge is indeed the Terminator cobra, that does not take away anything from the R. The R is a track monster for the era, the Terminator did everything well and actually dominated the competition of its era.

That was the R’s down fall. So heavy for a track car. The cobra r weight is 3600 and coupe terminator is 3660. And it’s stripped interior is pretty disappointing.
