    I've just started playing again after a ten year hiatus and your videos are by far the most professional, informative, and useful I've come across. Thanks so much from a renewed lover of the game

    Thanks! Now most people watch this for baseball. I watch it to be able to slide like Call Of Duty Ghosts in an airsoft war.

    I have a lot of trouble sliding, so I just needed to learn it from the start. I recommend this video to anyone who has trouble sliding.

    This usually means your weight is not at a 50/50 balance, you're too hard on one side. Your rear end should be taking the brunt of the friction from the ground, if you're leaning too hard forward and to the side of your tucked knee, the knee contacts the ground and will get an abrasion from the force and power of your body going from full speed into a slide. Let me know if this helps!

    To not hurt your leg just keep everything solid I have my right leg under and I've been sliding for a long time and I finally perfected the popup slide if you can use cardboard or a tarp in the grass and just go through mechanics

    I am coaching my daughters team and trying to teach them to slide but I was always taught to keep my upper body down so they couldn't tag you is this something that has changed?

  • @ProSwingNY
    @ProSwingNY  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Strikezonefreak, generally your right (or left foot, depending on what's comfortable) will start to come up first as you go down into your slide. You want to imagine your body as an airplane landing when you slide... don't "fall" into it, it will slow you down! Let me know if this helps!

    I play on a gravel infield so when I slide I tend to always cut my right knee open (I bend my right leg and keep my left one straight) do you have any suggestions on what I can do so I don't cut my knee or since it's gravel is there not much I can do?

  • @ProSwingNY
    @ProSwingNY  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @misskelsie24 Kelsie, if you are sliding directly on your hip then you may be a little off balance! Not a problem though, just be careful when you're going from full speed into a slide and dragging that hand; even if you're trying to hold yourself up, that intense pressure on your wrist can cause an injury if you jam it or place it down the the wrong way. Also, most fielders are taught to catch and bring the tag DOWN, not reach at eye level for your hands. Hope this helps!

    See thing is is i use metal cleats and i jst got them and i heard they catch alot easier and if there was a way to slide with certain spike materials.

  • @ProSwingNY
    @ProSwingNY  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Run full speed... then think of a plane landing, get that front foot out straight and TUCK THE OTHER LEG underneath. Your rear end should take the brunt of the friction on the ground! Let me know if this helps!

    Should your sliding pad go on the leg that bends on the leg that touches the base?

    If you're bruising your ankle than your weight distribution is off. What part of your ankle is brusing? This will help me determine what you're doing wrong!

      +optimusant 7678 It depends on the speed of the pitch that the first baseman is receiving, how far from the base you are, and if the first baseman already has the ball. Oh and trickery

    Only time you slide into first is when the pitcher is attempting to pick you off at first, but then that is considered a 'dive'.

    Disagree! While I generally have slid head first my entire high school and college career, it's an advanced skill that young kids shouldn't try until they're older. I gotta teach the basics man!

      +ExtiinctOfficial Well and it also depends on how you are sliding if your sliding to steal a base or sliding into home.
