  • PLEASE READ THE DETAILS IN THE DESCRIPTION.
    Unfortunately I received a new Hovertrax 2.0 (purchased from an authorized distributor) with a depleted battery. When I attempted to charge the battery using the included charger the charger indicated the battery was fully charged (green LED) and the board status lights indicated the something; the battery was not actually charged. When I unplugged the charger and turned the board on it shut down immediately. I used a digital multi-meter to determine the battery voltage was ~0v on the terminals.
    In the video, I mentioned that Razor wasn't so helpful in getting a battery to me quickly in the video. What I meant they were unable to help me get a battery before 12/25; I will be getting my new battery a few days after that which is great. They actually did a pretty good job processing my claim and getting a new replacement battery shipped to me free of charge.
    Watch this video for some tips to revive a depleted battery that no longer charges via the included charger; read the info below before attempting what is described in this video.
    Disclaimers and Warnings:.
    I have facilities available to me and technical background for this type of activity...this is not something the average Joe/Jane should try.
    This video is intended for information only.
    Use this information at your own risk!!!
    I take no responsibility for any consequences incurred by referencing this video.
    Lithium batteries are extremely dangerous and should be taken as seriously as an explosive device or fire arm. Lithium batteries can cause a FIRE and possibly DEATH when miss handled!
    Though my battery does appear to be restored and does seem to function well in the Hovertrax 2.0, I do plan on retiring it after the replacement comes in after the holidays. I went through all of this to mitigate unnecessary tears on 12/25 from the kids.
    Razor should consider shipping these batteries in a sealed container (with some sort of quality seal) and not installed in the board. I think this would prevent many drained battery issues with new products.

    Thanks a lot for this video. Our Hovertrax was totally dead and could not be charged anymore after not using it a few years.
    I made a small hole in the case and connected the battery with crocodile clamps to the Hoverboard and let it charge around 5 minutes bypassing the security circuit using the original charger. After 5 minutes I removed the clamps and reinserted the battery into the Hovertrax and it was charging as normal again.

    This worked great, thanks. I attached wires to where the battery was removed from the hovertrax, and connect them to the removed battery like you showed. Charged it for 30 minutes, reinstalled, charges like normal now and functions like it did when new! Thanks. Oh, the battery was originally depleted because it wasn't used for over a year.

    Many thanks for this post. I followed the tip connecting wires from the terminals to which the battery connects to the two points showed in this video and charged for less than 10 mins then returned the battery into the hoverboard. Thereafter, it charged normally. I have been using it since then. The hoverboard arrived with the battery depleted because we ordered from US and ship by sea among other.items to Nigeria. Delay in shipment made the package to arrive about 9 months after we purchased it. This video saved us a lot of stress aside the money with ordering for a new battery.

    This worked great for me, too, but I used an easier procedure. Like in the video, I had about 4 volts at the b- terminal in the upper left of the video but only .21 at the lower left terminal. I simply connected them with a small wire soldered between them for about 1 minute, which was long enough to get the lower terminal up to .61 volts. I desoldered the wire and then put the open battery pack back in the hovertrax and hooked up the charger. It beeped short beeps about once per second with faint lights, but as it charged the beeps got a little longer and longer until they stopped and the normal charging lights lit up. At that point the battery charged normally, I glued the case back together, and everything worked like new again.

    I am glad I watched this video before I spend $100 on the new battery. I used rotary tool to cut the battery clean.. I charged it like you mentioned and it worked like a champ.. thank you.. I wished I had watched this video couple of months ago. I had a brand new vacuum seating in the box for over two years After I unpacked and try to charge it and it didn't work. It was out of warranty and I end up buying new battery for about $60. I already recycled the old battery but now I am thinking it was the same thing I had to do. It was completely drained out... Thank you so much for this video.

    Thank you so much. I recovered my battery as your instructions but i did not used RC charger or something else. After i opened the battery i just made a direct conenction from hoverboard battery compartment to battery terminals. When i touched the wires, hurrah! battery comes back to normal :) Thanks again.

    A quick follow up... Though Razor could not get a replacement to me before Christmas but they did get one headed my way and it will be at my residence about 3 days after Christmas. They are a very nice company to deal with and have a good customer service team.
    I failed to mention that I used Kapton Tape to hold the case together; this needs to be done prior to installing the battery into the board.
    The board works great with this restored battery. At this time I am only partially charging the pack (2 solid green LED's) since I do not know the voltage of each cell and want to avoid overcharging some cells. I also wont discharge it past yellow to prevent over discharge of cells. I have also removed it from the board and store it in a fire proof bag and that bag goes into a metal ammo container. I am taking it easy with this pack until the replacement comes; this pack will be retired afterwards.

    I find many battery stores can rebuild hard to find batteries and cordless drill batteries cheaper than you can buy new ones and work better. The battery stores I am talking about are those that sell deep cycle batteries for solar panels, boat batteries, even car batteries. Not stores like auto parts stores. Most of the stores I am talking about can usually find the really hard to find ones. If one of those ten cells goes bad, the battery is pretty much had it but these stores will open the can, find the bad cell and replace it, or replace them all and then make the can usable but can easily be reopened.

      Hello, and thanks for the reply. I was able to get life out of this pack and used the heck out of it for a few weeks. When the replacement came it I retired the battery but I do still have it and it does still work. Fortunately it seems I got pretty lucky to not have to replace a cell, just needed some TLC. And I did all of this to avoid tears at Christmas.

    • @eco8gator
      @eco8gator  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on the charge rate. Let's say the charge rate is roughly 1 amp; I would charge for about 5 mins and then check to see if it will start to charge when installed in the hoverboard.
      What do you mean about the steal cover? Please post a video on TH-cam so I can see. Maybe they changed the assembly??? It's odd to put a metal cover over that assembly...seems dangerous.

    Would the charger that razor ships with these Hovertrax 2.0s, properly charge a 36v lithium ion hoverboard battery (commonly found online at 4.4 amp hour)??

    • @eco8gator
      @eco8gator  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      4.4Ah is an indication of battery capacity/size. The charger that come with Hovertrax should work with an HoverTrax battery (assuming it's made for the same hover board) with the same voltage rating. Larger batteries will simply take longer to charge.
      I would follow up with the OEM to gain their concurrence.
      As a reminder, lion batteries can be dangerous and can burn down a house. Razor did a lot of work to fix quality issues that lead to battery fires. I recommend using their UL rated batteries. Or at a minimum do not leave charging batteries unattended.

    • @CameronMcDonald
      @CameronMcDonald 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eco8gator Yes, I was mentioning ah just to specify/confirm what battery I was referring to. I have this charger, but plan to use it on a different scooter - one that is powered by a different brand of hoverboard 36v lith ion battery. My confusion is that 36v batteries get charged to beyond 36v and this charger specifies 36v output (rather than say 42).

    • @CameronMcDonald

      @@eco8gator any thoughts on if the charger will charge 36v lithium ion batteries beyond 36v? (comment below)

    • @eco8gator

      Upon further research I have come to the conclusion that the 4.4AH battery you are referring to is not for the HoverTrax 2.0 (if it is please correct me and send me a link to the aftermarket battery because it has almost 2x the capacity of OEM). I am not sure if you can use the HoverTrax 2.0 charger to charge the aftermarket battery for a different hover board.
      Is this battery going to be used in a hoverboard or is this for some other project?

    I failed to follow up after the functional test. In short yes it did work after a full charge. Razor did get me a new battery and this repaired battery is no longer being used due to safety concern. It was a suitable stop gap until I received the new battery and his been retired and will no longer be used.

    Bought 3 hoverboards for $5. The Hovertrax 2.0 was one of them. The lights would indicate a full charge with a green light on the power supply. I broke open the battery case with a razor knife & xacto. It took several passes to break the seal and some careful prying around the seem with a small flathead to pop the latches that are on the inside of the case. On the multimeter, my battery originally read 0.60v, I used your method to charge it up. I used the original 42v 2a power supply and a charge port from a spare hoverboard, so I didn't have to cut the power supply. I alligator clipped the positive and negative from the power supply directly to the spots that you indicated. My battery was a different model but worked the same. I monitored the charge, then tested the battery when the non bypassed terminals read around 4.5v. During that test, the five lights on the hoverboard would flash faintly, and it would beep. I charged it until it read around 10 volts on the non bypassed terminals, which took maybe an hour to reach the 10v. I put it back in the board. Now the five lights indicate that's it's charging and the power supply is showing a red light. As of now the charge lights went from red to yellow, 3 green flashing, I powered it on, it does work and seemed like it was ready to ride but I'm going to let it charge fully.
