This is great and just what I needed. Thank you - also for signposting for further info and suggesting alternative designs. I was very pleased to see that the first project is something I can actually wear.

Thank you. I like to think of different ways to get something done. Of course, after a while, I have to stop thinking and actually get the thing done ;-)

@NT-fk1qs Hi, if you tap the picture a cog icon should appear in the top right of the picture, tap that and it should give you the option to select captions/subtitles. Hope this helps!

A brilliant video. Oddly when I started sewing, knowing nothing I started with knit fabrics (1st pattern EVER was a t-shirt), and I think it's a good start as afterwards woven seemed so simple.

😁 It's all downhill from here, right? That is certainly one way to not be scared to sew knits.

Please show how to take measurements on one's own body and apply them to a pattern. Thanks Jan ❤

This is helpful because I’m teaching students to use the sewing machine. The skirt is not helpful because the boys don’t want a skirt. Any suggestions to learn the same skills with a different project?

The thought behind the skirt was to learn how to gather and to make a casing. The only other, sort of simple thing I could think of with gathers was a throw pillow with a ruffle but that doesn't seem very "today". Maybe instead of flat patch pockets on the apron you could replace them with gathered pockets with a band. (The pocket is straight across the top and say, 2" wide. The rest of the pocket is wider than the band and therefore gathered across the top to fit into the band and across the bottom to match in width with the top) Or skip gathering and learn the zig-zag stitch ;-)

Any ideas on a second project for people that aren’t feminine?

I was asked this same question earlier and now that I've thought even more about it - I would skip it. You'll learn how to sew the casing on project 4 . The gathering or how to gather fabric - was the main thing I wanted folks to learn with project 2 - that and have something they could wear that they made - but you can learn to gather fabric on scraps of fabric, or the few times you might come across it. Really, just skip it. You'll learn a lot from the other 3 projects.

I would dearly love to take advantage of this video but the "background" music makes it impossible for me to hear the presenter.

Hello! So, at the beginning of the video you suggest to make napkins and I love thst idea, but what are the best types of fabric to use to make napkins? I would assume a an absorbent washable kind, but what is best. Thanks

@@kyleighelisa5909 I would use 100% cotton if you are new to sewing. I recently bought some Fat Quarters from the quilt shop (they are 1/4 yd cuts but cut to be 18" tall and 22" wide) and made those into a set a napkins. They are only printed on one side but they are also fun and colorful prints and look nice on the table. Linen is also great for napkins but linen fabric shifts around a lot and is a little harder to work with that's why if you're new to sewing use cotton - so much easier to handle.

I agree. The music detracts from the otherwise excellent tutorial.
