Thank you! I’ve been sewing for 63 years! I started 4-H when I was 8, and of course I grew up when Home Economics was offered in high school. It’s sad for me to think of all the missed opportunities in sewing because that’s not offered anymore!
Great idea about choosing a new skill to try. I also do this with knitting and have great results. I haven't tried this with sewing and I feel kind of stalled out on my abilities. Thanks!
I've made a fair number of hansie and quince in quilt cotton now, if you cut the hansie 'off grain' (sideways) then you can get a size 10 out of 1.5m of quilt cotton and you end up with a long strip left over for facings and pockets for later projects. If you are in the UK and a beginner get the Uten with speed control for 150, I use pfaffs but my daughter was scared of using them so I got her a uten and I'm mildly annoyed at how good it is, it wont do multiple layers of denim but it managed corduroy and chambrey,
Since you both knit and sew, I wonder if you might do a video on fabrics from a knitter’s perspective? I’ve watched a few videos about knit fabrics but none of them seem to connect the dots between knitted fabric (stockinette, garter, double knit, etc.) and whether or not knit fabrics are the same. I’m an experienced knitter and a less experienced sewist, and I’m confused!
WARNING ❤ Quilting Cotton is narrow so double check how much fabric you will actually need. AND is Quilting cotton wide enough for each pattern piece. 😊❤😊❤

That's great you had the opportunity to learn in school!
Great tips! I would add learning how to do an FBA if you have a large bust. As a petite gal with a 32D chest it has saved me from so much frustration!
Great suggestion! Thanks for sharing.

Glad this was helpful!

Happy New Year to you too! I hope this video helps you get started!
Ohhhh merci pour cette option de traduction automatique de la video sans sous titre c'est tellement plus agréable 🤩

Knit fabrics are the same construction, just on a much smaller scale.
That skills checklist seems super helpful! I can’t find the link though… 😢
It's linked in the description, but here's the direct link: promo.seamwork.com/sewing-supplies-freebie/
I could not locate the link to the free skills checklist. How do I find it?

For borrowing, check local library! An increasing number loan out sewing machines
Yes! I love that a lot of libraries are offering this now. Thanks for sharing!

Yes, it's very important to check fabric width when buying! Thanks for the reminder!
Don't just label the fabric shears, hide them when not in use. New and non sewists seriously underestimate the importance of dedicated shears.
Yes, you have to teach others to respect the fabric shears!
