    I 100% agree with you on RCM. I have their mods all throughout my STI. I was blown away by the quality of their CNC parts. I work in the CNC industry, and the quality blows most other companies out of the water. Beautiful tool paths, no tool chatter, no signs of any defects.

    I actually saw a moto IQ video a while ago that actually quantified an air oil separator. He said on the street they noticed it didn't really make a difference. But when they went on a track the bottle filled in 3 laps and was overflowing. So finally for me that helped a lot.

    Allegedly the 'Plastic Fantastic' has some really good flow rates.. I was reading a thread in NASIOC about intake manifold flow rates and what manifolds had the most even flow rate through each intake runner.

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could see it, they're designed rather well and I would assume less heat transfer since it's plastic

      Much more uniform production process as opposed to a high volume cast manifold with residual casting flash all over it. We had a customer making over 550whp on a plastic Spec B manifold, back when that was a difficult number to achieve on a street car.

    Hey Tanner, I believe the hks belt is Kevlar which has different spacing specs for the guides. This was not touched in the video and just wanted to give you the heads up. Abuddy just had his Kevlar belt snap because he kept the oem guide and had it to tight. It eventually ate through the belt. I believe the spacing should be 1mm for Kevlar and 0.5mm for an oem timing belt.

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tbh I don't even use oem guide specs. I fold a piece of paper 5 times then use that as my spacer. But good info to add in 🤝🔥

    The piece that hits the turbo inlet is actually the stock boost control solenoid. So if you are putting on a 3 port ebcs, that piece will go bye bye. • @TDT0188

    • @AaronAnderson323
      @AaronAnderson323 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TDT0188 My understanding from the manufacturer is this is an element of the compact cooler core design used for this package. Turbulence is used to cool the oil as it passes through the core. The external Setrab core based solutions usually have approximately 1 psi pressure drop across them.

    Totally off topic for your video but I have a serious question/problem. My new top tier closed deck, pinned mains, billet crank, built heads engine from Outfront lost all oil pressure at the track suddenly. Has a new Killer B oil pan and pick-up, 11mm pump from Outfront. I've had zero oiling issues and keep an AEM gauge in the car for pressure and temp.
    Was 1st pass of my 1st race, hit the rev limiter in 3rd and dropped the clutch hard on a flat foot shift in 4th. That's when the oil light came on and the AEM gauge read zero. Pulled turbo oil feed line in the pits and nothing. Motor has 1500 break-in/tune miles on it, making just over 900whp at 43psi through a 6870, rev limiter set to 8300 so nothing super crazy for this motor.
    Most likley cause I think would be the oil pump pressure relief valve but I'm not sure it has the capacity to bypass 100% of the oil pressure the pump generates. Could also be that the pick-up snapped off but that would be wild, same goes for the pump keyways shearing off....
    Any insight would be greatly appreciated, super expensive motor and I'm pretty confident it will need a refresh at a minimum after 8k rpms and no oil pressure. Worst case the billet crank and heads are also smoked from oil starvation.

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fuuuuuck, sorry to hear.
      I'd definitely start with the oil pump and work my way in. I haven't seen a killer B pick it snap before but anything could be possible I guess.
      If it were me I'd tear the pump down tk start with, pull the pan and check the pick it. It's rare to see but excess sealant is always a possibility on the pan. Some squeeze out can fall in the pan and clog the pick up too

      @PleadTheFifth_Racing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Smeedia All great feedback, thank you Tanner. Vince Griffin said they had a oil pump pressure valve stick in the Eggplant race car and it ended up being fine after swapping pumps. But losing all OP at 8k definitely not gonna be good on the cam journals, crank and rod bearings.

    SouthBend stg 3 daily VS. ACT HDSS VS. competition clutch (?any?) - - - do you have any recommendations and why?
    TiC recommended S.B. (and I trust them) My tuner recommended ACT (and i trust him), and you mentioned competition (and i trust you).....
    -Group N full mounts going in (eng/trans/diff/pitch stop)
    -Whiteline 22mm F/R sway bar + bushing kit
    -additionally, clutch fork, pivot ball, and clutch line are all getting upgraded with the clutch

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HDSS > South bend >competition
      ACT is the best feeling clutch imo that holds power well. Competition feels like hot trash IMO personally never been a fan of South bend clutches for subarus.
      The only reason I have a competition is because the flywheel on the car only works eith this competition clutch. Otherwise I'd be using my act hdss.

    Just out of curiosity, is there any technical reason that you chose the Grimmspeed BB turbo over the Precision BB stock location Subaru turbo? I remember that you opted for Precision Turbo for the EG33 build, and with both the Grimmspeed and Precision Subaru offerings being similarly priced, I kinda expected that you might've stayed with the brand. I'm currently in the research phase of my own build and leaning toward the Precision 58mm stock location variant, but am willing to revise this plan if the Grimmspeed is the better option.

    What’s your opinion on colder thermostats? I have a 1JZ which runs at 95 degrees Celsius but I live in a hot climate and am going with a colder mishimoto option. I know it’s not an EJ but I’m thinking of doing the same for the forester based on what you think about them for Subarus. Also I agree radiator upgrades do not help you run cooler it hold more coolant making it easier for the radiator to flow cooler coolant I’ve had to explain this multiple times to people lol

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It'll open sooner, worth a try imo. It won't change max Temps but it may take it a big longer to reach those higher temps if your battling temp issues.
      Common radiator misconception out there 😅

    • @Mprosen96
      @Mprosen96 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Smeedia thanks for the answer! I’ll run it in the 1j as it’s constantly hot here and see what happens. For the forester I changed out the radiator and changed the thermostat housing to the killer B one like I’ve seen you do in the past that seems to help flow more coolant. Also have the cylinder 4 cooling mod.
      IMO it seems a good cooling system will help on spirited driving as it brings temps down a bit when your on open roads just cruising but also helps when in traffic if your fans work correctly you’ll see the temps barely rise then when the fans kick on the temps will shoot back down to normal operating temperature quicker then a stock radiator at least that’s my experience.
