Great craft! Might try something like this in the future. I do wonder if you couldn't have used magnets instead of the hinges (to connect the two halves of the board) though? Would have been an easy solution for the problem, but I also might be overlooking obvious stuff.
That certainly could work as well! Definitely a good idea. I'm sure with neodymium magnets it'd be strong enough

Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Next time, to get folding boards to lay flat using a hinge like that, the issue is the holes are offset just enough to mess it up, right? So to fix this, screw in the one side as normal. But on the other half, drill only 2 slightly LARGE holes that leave PLAY in it for the screws to "self adjust" to where it will set when level. Now just put a bit of epoxy in those oversize holes, assemble it, lay it open flat with perhaps some weight on top to hold it in place, and when the epoxy sets, it will have lock both sides in perfectly flat and even with the hinges. You have to not over epoxy in the holes, try an imagine just enough after the screws come in loosely and perhaps painters tape over the screws before laying the boards out flat (hinge closed) so that you absolutely get no epoxy locking things up! Then after they set, you can drill any other holes through the hinge and add screws as desired...
