Oh WOW, thanks for the shout, man :D I should also specifically mention Devalaous and Trov from DW, both who have contributed immensely to the effort, as well, even if somewhat behind the scenes and lowkey, their work has been invaluable to make all this happen.
Woop! Thanks for giving it a play, and glad you enjoyed! I may or may not have been laughing evilly during the Coiled City segment. Glad it hit home. :P
Man, those music artists of Legacy of Rust are some geniuses of MIDI art. Never thought that MIDI soundfont could imitate something like high-quality instrumentals, but after blazing through all the levels, those soundtracks still stuck in my mind.
This was a very nice review! There haven’t been many reviews of LOR as of right now. I’m working on a DOOM 2 retrospective which includes some LOR because of this but I’m glad you brought this to us fans. Great video! New sub.
Pretty good review. Soul Silo on pistol start is rather tricky but oddly enough, it was the AV fight that gave me the most trouble (that and the bit where Revenants swarm from all directions when you get the second key I believe. The lack of auto-aim for the Calamity Blade made it a rather problematic weapon to use in most situations, like "The Coiled City" asks for a little more thought where its used. It starts earning its keep in the last two maps though. Speaking of which, "THE SKELETON WORLD" is an awesome track for the final map and definitely among my favorites here
It's been awhile since I've watched a good review... And from Agent Strange no less! I already love KexDoom and this is another reason why for what it includes. Good work, Agent! 😎👍
I certainly enjoyed it more than Doom eternal. In an ultra violence run I was never hurting for ammo except for that level with only flamethrower ammo but that's an exception lol. At some point I should replay this turning on fast monsters
Brilliant review! I loved the new episode. It's very different, both in tone and design language, but I welcome it. I mean, if you insist on classic style, there are like 100 official-ish vanilla maps featured in the package as it is. The soundtrack is great, too. It's less 'DOOM' and more 'Rise of the Triad', but in my world 'more ROTT music' is never a problem. As a package, my only two complaints about KexDOOM are 1) not having Sigil II in there to truly complete the set and 2) the censorship. The latter sucks big time, I was beyond disappointed to see Nightdive using Nerve's neutered IWADs as the base. At least on PC you can replace them with the originals, but sucks for those playing on consoles.
Yeah, the censorship is weird considering that these guys publish Wolfenstein and Germany isn't as strict with its media anymore. It is what it is. I've heard that Sigil II was planned to be included in the main lineup but it wasn't submitted in time or didn't pass certification in time, something dumb like that.
But will legacy of rust work on my microwave? Jokes aside this is rad as hell, doom eternal was ok but im honestly more excited for this, im kinda getting put off of games that take up an excessive amount of memory, i think devs should dial back on the graphics and focus more on older game engines with better performance, graphics seriously isnt what makes a game good, look at OG doom its still gravy even now, thankyou heaps for your coverage on this 😎👍
I feel like you could have mentioned how a lot of the new enemies, while using “new” assets, are ideas the community has already added to a lot of maps previously. -the ghoul is like heretic’s fire gargoyle, which you mentioned. A lot of maps borrow the fire gargoyle, and I’d also shout out eviternity making the lost soul weaker so it dies in one shotgun blast. -the banshee is like many suicide enemies, like in skillsaw’s various projects -the shock trooper is the “evil marine” of Scythe 2 fame, but that idea has been around since early DEHACKED stuff -the tyrant is the low-health cyberdemon popularized by Supercharge and Fractured Worlds -the mindweaver is pretty self-evident The only one that’s really completely new functionally is the vassago. This isn’t to say Xaser ripped off a bunch of community ideas, I’d instead think it’s the exact opposite: an opportunity to formalize and standardize a bunch of stuff that the community was already doing into something “official.” So if you want to see what the community will do with these monsters there’s already a lot of good maps to look at. (And let’s be honest no one’s going to top Scythe 2 MAP16.)
Appreciate the feedback on this point. Truth be told, I did want to get more detailed in aspects like this, but I was burnt out on this video by then and I didn't want to push too far past the 30-minute mark.
The biggest flaw of this expansion, I think, is that the developers just shoved the alpha/beta graphical assets in without editing them. There were many reasons why these demons were altered or cut, from just looking unpolished/bad to not fitting in. All they had to do with most of the assets were a few minor changes in Photoshop; literally a ten minute job on the Mindweaver, for example. Then again, it's a minor issue, and I have zero doubts that someone is already editing/improving them.
It reminded me a lot of BTSX: Episode One was pretty good. Some nasty challenge and overall decent stage design Episode Two was god awful. Level design was way too over-elaborate and cryptic, the BS slaughter map aspects were either tedious or unbearable. And the hidden stage is broken. That's not even mentioning how the new weapons suck. Solid 5/10. Stick with just the first episode.
It feels like the team started off wanting to make a fun wad that did some really cool stuff but then really quickly decided they hate fun and hate every single person on the planet.
Oh WOW, thanks for the shout, man :D

No worries, man. Figured I'd miss some other folks worthy of a mention so thank you for shouting them out in turn.
Woop! Thanks for giving it a play, and glad you enjoyed!

Appreciate it. You did a stellar job with that map.
WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO MEEEEE
10/10 review. the Romero soyjak made me genuinely laugh aloud.
Man, those music artists of Legacy of Rust are some geniuses of MIDI art. Never thought that MIDI soundfont could imitate something like high-quality instrumentals, but after blazing through all the levels, those soundtracks still stuck in my mind.

Appreciate that, friend. Be sure to read the Q&A in the description. Might be something in there for ya
@@PoweredbyidTechoh, there definitely is. Thank you so much!
doom guy with the glasses made me chuckle a bit for the texture filtering. Great video btw!

What an excellent review. I can confirm that soul silo is indeed hard on pistol start.
Appreciate that, dude

Welcome to Die is still stuck in my head
8:45 "I guess we're making ghouls now"
Love the reference
17:24 this track stood out to me, I would stop playing every now and then to appreciate how bad ass the score was.
This might be my favorite Doom mod/expansion.
Tyrants would be cooler if they didn't look weirdly bald.
That Fight Fire With Fire midi on Coiled City rules
This is the real Doom Eternal.

The intermission screens were fixed in gzdoom. At the time the video was edited they were missing

Mayhaps
Cool video, but I'll gladly play this on GZ Doom. I didn;t spend all that time setting up my launcher and mod manager for it to go to waste.
It's perfectly doable in GZDoom. Go for it.

5:51 name of the movie?
Event Horizon
Oh hai!
Hello there
My only problem with the map pack is that you have to own the new ports to play it. (Legally, anywat)
It feels like the team started off wanting to make a fun wad that did some really cool stuff but then really quickly decided they hate fun and hate every single person on the planet.
The issue with these mods will be size imo. D2 mods rarely reach more than 1gb. But these mods? How much will those have ?
Still.. will be awesome what modders come up with
What is that 3D Quake lookin doom mod and where do I play it?
I think it’s just called 3d doom, I found it on moddb a while ago
@trenth3492 Thank you 🙏
I really enjoyed Legacy of Rust except the Calamity Blade. Its trash compared to the BFG.
