    A must with all of these devices, you can get automation but not locking with an external controller, at least on the digitakt. The XL with 8 faders is almost perfect, if they put encoders there on next iteration then there's no competition.

    Hi, when you set up the controller via the application, there is no need for the computer? I'm thinking that afterwards you can connect octatrack and nano via a usb to midi converter box, no need for the computer anymore? I remember years ago I was doing things like this with a UC33E and nord micro modular, when i had finished setting up all my presets, i could use the 2 together without a computer. The nano has no midi outputs but it is small.

    behringer x-touch compact works great for this application. it's got 5-pin in/out, is fully re-addressible via v simple editor software, and has dual layer that i use to switch back and forth between controlling my octatrack and my mixer. no reason you couldn't have a single layer mapped to multiple pieces of gear through assigning half the controller to a different channel or some such.

      Looks awesome in terms of functionality. The price point, though, is a bit too much for a controller; at least in my book.

    In the midi control reference in the back of the octatrack manual do you know what the note value / midi number would be if I want to trigger the playback of a sample on each track of the octatrack when I hit a different pad on my drum machine? (its a little confusing looking at this thing :)

    I think I'm getting a little lost on this but is the nanokontrol going in via USB? I use all of the midi channels to control a drum machine and two synths. This would only affect midi in, is that right? Thanks for all your videos btw. Been really helpful in getting to grips with the OT

    • @LateNightBeatsOfficial
      @LateNightBeatsOfficial  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The NANO is going through my iConnect Midi 4+ (USB in => DIN Out). The CC's should only communicate with the OT and should not be sent further, or at least I haven't noticed anything like that and I use the OT as my main sequencer.

      @@LateNightBeatsOfficial i'm using the UC33e instead but when I switch bank, the OT loads the saved settings ( amp/volume values, etc ) and doesn't update or keep the settings as they are tuned on my controller. Great tutorial! I've been wondering this for a while now. Might hunt down a controller like that. Also, I've been trying to figure out how get a seamless integration with Ableton live and the Octatrack. I've heard the ERM midi clock or Interlock Synclock (both expensive) solve the midi delay and overall sync problems. Ableton is terrible at being the master midi clock and even as the slave there are lags and delays. I was looking at the Roland MX1 as the master clock , but can't try one here in Taiwan before I buy one. I use a focusrite scarlet 2i4 for midi or the machinedrum TM1. Cheers! Thanks for all the good tutorials amigo!!!! Still hoping for a scene/effects/rate/crossfade breakdown. I'm stumped on how some of the sound packs from Electron were done.

    • @LateNightBeatsOfficial
      @LateNightBeatsOfficial  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! I only use Ableton for recording and midi sync over is Scarlett was reliable enough, but I guess that if you want to sync it to some ableton tracks it can be problematic. I remember about the scene / effects breakdown, but still haven't found a way to present it coherently. I'm trying to be as informative and concise as possible, so sometimes preparing an episode takes a while :)

    I use the Novation Launch Control with a Kenton Midi usb Host as a 'stand-alone' controller for my Elektron gear. It works well but I'm considering looking for a controller with rotary encoders instead of pots as switching pages can be impractical (i.e. coming from a filter cut-off scene to a track level scene).

    • @LateNightBeatsOfficial
      @LateNightBeatsOfficial  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      People say that the Behringer BCR200 if you can get over the build quality is a monster when it comes to rotary encoders. Plus you don't need a KENTON for it.

    • @RichWoodwardMusic
      @RichWoodwardMusic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah - my only problem with the BCR2000 is its size. I'm looking for something compact like a Doepfer Pocket Dial, or a Midi Fighter Twister.

    • @mofateam1

    I've used a LaunchKontrol XL with my OT in the past and the main problem I encountered was that there was no pickup mode. This meant that when I changed songs there would be jumps when I turned the controller knob. Any solutions to this?

    • @LateNightBeatsOfficial
      @LateNightBeatsOfficial  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about it, and I don't think there is. An ideal option would be to have two-way communication between the OT and the controller, and then with something like a BCR2000 (with LEDs) you could see the position of the knobs, but I guess it would have to ping the values to the controller upon every PART change, so I'm guessing that's not possible.

    What is the name of the cameras you are using in your multi camera setup, they work really well.

    • @LateNightBeatsOfficial
      @LateNightBeatsOfficial  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, they're nothing too fancy I'm afraid. I use a Canon EOS Rebel T3i with two non-factory, inexpensive M42 lenses for the OT closeup and two previous gen Xiaomi YI. The crucial thing is the lighting, though: I have a set of Philips Hue bulbs that make it possible for me to control the lights really precisely. If you want to see the difference they're making just scope out my older videos before I got the HUE. Same cameras, much different results.

      Thanks. I'm not sure about the connection because I don't know how to use midi through port. My current configuration is OT(midi out) -> Sub(midi in), Sub(midi out) -> OT(midi in). That's all I know. Would you explain how to configure external midi controller by using midi through? Thanks for reading. Your videos are all informative and nice.

    • @LateNightBeatsOfficial
      @LateNightBeatsOfficial  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why do you plug your SUB into the OT? To take advantage of MIDI Learn? If not, just plug the controller into the OT Midi In. The Thru is used to send midi signal forward from one device to another, so If you bought a Korg Volca and wanted to sequence both the SUB and the Volca from the OT, you'd set it up on different midi channels and plug via thru. Check out my Midi setup video for more details.

      Hey, I use iConnectMidi4+ which has the USB host capabilities. But any USB-to-MIDI hub should do. Keep in mind that iConnectMidi2 does not work as a host, so you have to check specifically if the device has USB host capabilities. noodldoodl take care with those cables. I've been reading about them. they are cables to convert your usb computer port in a midi port. they do not work if you use them without a computer. you need an usb host like kenton. however i finally purchased a bcr2000 which works standalone, withou need of third party devices

    • @LateNightBeatsOfficial

    The ideal solution would bin the din one indeed, as the point of the OT for me is to be away from the laptop as much as possible!
