    I KNEW this was coming! The minimalist in me is singing! When I FIRE'd - I had a lot of free time. A direct result of that was spending time with my STUFF. The engineer side of me made everything I kept earn it's keep. (BTW...I love the peas.)
    The next step will be to downsize your home or find a way to use it to it's best potential.

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      This might be a consequence of FIRE. You have more time to think about life and what is important. This results in similar actions? When the house is almost empty, I feel something will be done about it.

    Everyone embrace minimalism at different speeds. I’ve actually came full circle - I’ve gotten rid of 95% of my possessions, rebuilt my equipments and apparels with only things that are essential, to now where my possessions are slowly increasing again. But now my purchase decisions are laser focused, and things I buy are either to replace worn out items or top of the line upgrades that I can now afford due to minimalism.

    Yes, I sold almost all of my things due to tragic personal situations. Now I have less, but I should have been more careful with what I sold and kept. Now I don't have as much, but I think I would be cautious about what I would sell in the future. As I got rid of kitchen supplies that I now need to have again. Just going smaller in the amount to the things I have would be a better approach.
    BTB, I would be careful about what you sell like with the vacuum cleaners keep one, as it is more expensive to buy another one in the future due to price increases. As for the stuffed animals, and the peas please keep them as I like to see what you have done with them each time you create a video.

    Yes yes yes....ive been trying to share this kind of odd phenomenon for the last five years. After years of chasing “the amercian dream” which seemed to be explained through owning lots of stuff. I too was in a way scared of getting rid of “stuff”. So five years ago my wife and I sold nearly everything we had beyond the basics. As we sold each item it was as if the actual weight of the item was being taken off of us. So today I have come to the realization that the more stuff we have, even if we own it, adds a level of stress, anxiety, and weight to us. We have recently been discussing our dishes even. Do we need a cabinet full of cups and plates....or would a simple 8 place set be sufficient? We did this with clothing about 6 months ago. Came up with a reasonable list of necessity, kind of like a list we would pack for leaving on a one week trip. Took into consideration the seasons. Soon realized how little you really need. Most of the clothing we didnt even wear anyway....so why have 15 or 20 different shirts. I now have two pairs of jeans, two pairs of casual non-denim pants, couple long sleeve button shirts, couple short sleeve button shirts, couple tee shirts, couple suits. Etc. You get the idea. Even this list is more than absolutely necessary, but my closet sure is organized and clean now. And if I consider buying another shirt, I first think about which one I will get rid of as a replacement.

I noticed that they would take stuff out and throw it in the dumpster...good stuff, I would go "diving", if you will, and found a perfectly good food processor (worth 40-50 bucks), and once I found this nice wooden rolling butcher block. New in the store, it would have been more than $200. I got a lot of use out of it. Several other cheaper, yet perfectly good and useful items that I would have had to purchase with my hard earned money. Yet these folks were of the mindset that it was simply time to move on. I need to take a harder look at that.
