I agree with everything you said. I retired at 54. Not as young as you, but still young. I sold my big house and about 2/3 of my possessions, and moved to FL. l lease a very small condo and drive a 12 year old car. I've never been happier. I never set an alarm. I spend my days reading, swimming in the community pool and going to the beach. I too took a bunch of trips the first couple of years but have kind of gotten that out of my system and now am taking one or two trips a year. I live in a place people save up all year to vacation. I'm about to turn 61 and I have no regrets. That feeling of freedom you mentioned is just so awesome. @@timmychanofficial I worked as a social worker in 4 different government jobs over a period of 31 years. I got a decent pension. I bought my first home at 19 and always owned until I retired. I fully admire and endorse your early retirement! Good for you! Don't listen to the negative naysayers commenting on your videos. Hi I didn't really plan to eretire after 23 plus years as an OT in the schools. I got tired of dealing with the bureaucracy! Now I wisheI hadnt! Hubby still working and I feel like invisible. None asks me what I do but they didn't when I did work. Haha. Anyway at 57 I'm bored. I've tried some other jobs but didn't like them and don't think I can do retail. Any ideas? I have a BS in OT.
So many good points in this video. At my pest control job, it was so dirty, I got sick from it somehow. I started throwing up and having diarrhea. I couldn’t even work. I hinted to my boss I wanted to quit and he came to my house and picked up my work truck and there were people waiting to replace me immediately. Internal work over vacation is an awesome point too. I would rather clean up my stuff and sell stuff instead of outwardly seeking happiness through vacation also. Never ending to do list outside of work was very relatable too. You can never do things for yourself even after you worked for someone else. It sucks bad!

I've commented on your stuff here and there under my personal accounts prior. our FIRE journey's actually relatively similar and we met at your SF meetup in 2018. Friend went into serious depression doing this for 5 years or so been semi retired as they were earning money from a online marketing website. Time went by faster than expected- planned getting a job after a year but the money coming in made them forget. You become in your own little bubble world and forget the real world going on. This can have serious later problems. Also, made him depressed more looking at friends facebook after 5 years (he was not checking for few years) to see all social and active fun people were having 'living' with their family and kids etc. What made it worst was looking at linkedin and seeing achievements people made in 5 years like been director at Morgan Stanley. Getting their PhD or MD or some leading role at a top venture capital company and all achievements they made. This actually caused him to see a shrink. Serious affects when you see progress others have made while you let time just run by.

Yo beats, that is nice that you are sharing this, I'm working in my 8 to 5 jobs right now and thinking about doing what you doing but don't know if it's possible because I have rent and bills to pay. I don't own a house yet
Owning a home in full is ideal to retiring but not absolutely necessary. If you don't, your burn rate can be significantly higher due to rent and it can increase with the market.
Do you think early retirement, or partial retirement, is possible for those who weren't able to save up money from a full time job first? I have never worked full time, technically, but I spend about half of what I make from doing part time website work and helping run an e-commerce company. Do you think it is more important to save save a large sum of money or being able to generate your own income?
You talk about it in terms of time. It hardly matters if it is full or party time but rather how much you earn. Lets assume you meant you earn less. As long as you can save a lot compared to what you spend, you can retire early. Generating your own income can replace investment returns but it must be done carefully so that it isn't really work. Otherwise, you're just working.
@@BeatTheBush I guess you're right, full time work at $9/hr wouldn't be very much money haha Retirement doesn't seem like it'll be in my future too soon, working from home is much more viable and sorta similar if I like what I do Not having anything to do, any purpose, might be boring

I hadn't watched in a while and came back to see you made it. Congrats man it sounds wonderful.
Thank you! Well... I still make TH-cam videos so it depends if this is considered a job. Many people argue that I just changed jobs but I have this whole spew about that.
You make a good point about the curative powers of sleep. If I feel a virus coming on and I try to get more rest,.it usually goes away or doesn't last as long, but if I'm sleep-deprived, I usually get very sick.
Prolonged sickness might be bad for you? Hmmmm.
@@BeatTheBush prolonged sleep deprivation has been linked to heart attack, stroke, an increased chance of cancer, and sudden death.
I agree just from gut feeling.
It seems quite natural for you to be on camera. Nice job. Having recently retired it was an interesting video.
Took some getting used to. I still stutter.
I fully admire and endorse your early retirement! Good for you! Don't listen to the negative naysayers commenting on your videos. I agree with some other comment here, now that you have been on your own for some time now, you really do come across as much more relaxed. I'm retired too, stopped working at 53, almost 60 now, and so grateful to not be stuck in 9 to 5 work the last 6.5 years, especially after being in such a negative situation I had at my last 9 to 5 job.
Thanks for sharing the insights to your retirement life!
=D
im almost 30 years old, and really really hate working full time. i have a corvette and 2 motorcycles, and 300,000 saved up... check out some of my videos. What do you think about my idea to switch from 40hr a week to about 3-5 hours a week?
from time to time i come back here listening to this lonely life. no wife. no child. sure it is easy. it is like a monk. fake retirement. ask yourself this. do you want to be like Francis or like Elon? don’t waste your youth people. i will never retire. i love what i do
Hard to watch these videos with the glitch :(
Do a video on how to travel cheaply
@@lifesabeach5405 Not cheap, frugal.
It is TH-cam. This error happens within the first three hours a video is posted
Sorry, I forgot to check the glitch this time. I have written a huge note on my wall to check this next time.
You young people are way too fussy.
So true! Retired this year myself! Also noticed at midday is so quiet outside, streets and stores are empty, only some elderly people hehe.
Congratulations!!! What are you doing with your free time?

Would you be able to do this if you have a family with kids? Just wondering.
Interesting viewpoint. What do you think about Andrew Yang UBI?
I like it. Not sure about getting enough traction to win though.
how do you decide which stocks to invest and how do you pick a stock ..i have some cash and wanting to invest in stocks ? would love to hear your thoughts on it ... appreciate your input
First you how to know you chance of success with stock picking. It doesn’t look good.
Thank you for posting this!! I do hope you're going to fix the glitching!
I have a huge sign to tell me to recheck and triple check this now. Lol.
*How much $$ do you need to retire early? Like 30 years of living expenses saved up?*
25-30x burn rate to start.
@@BeatTheBush ahh thank you thank you senpai!
Do you trade stress of working with the stress of worrying about money and not being able to afford things you might want?
It sucks bad!
dude you're a direct inspiration to me even making a TH-cam channel. I've commented on your stuff here and there under my personal accounts prior. our FIRE journey's actually relatively similar and we met at your SF meetup in 2018. Kudos to making me think that I too can try something creative. Maybe in another year or 5 we can collaborate, ha. Hope you're enjoying your early retirement-is period more these days. You beat me to FIRE by a year, but I think I had a bigger cushion. Cheers XP
Excellent to hear! Oh yes... back when there is not social distancing I could have gatherings. I miss those now.
I like the new setting
=D
I work in an office, and we worked from home for a very short time between March 2020 to May 2020. Wearing these masks, I noticed I have not gotten sick. Before it would be easy for me to catch a sore throat or flu-like symptoms almost every flu season
Same here. I get sick a least once or twice a year when going into the office. Now, no flu for the past 2 years.
I had a '87 MR2 back in the day.. white with blue interior
I really think if you got a cat your life would be much more fullfilling with a greater purpose.
I'm more interested on how you did with those vacations? Were they especially frugal, or very spendy? $100/day including travel/room/food? Was it just you? Was it mostly visiting places, or spending money for admission to places?
Usually around there depending on where. 20-40% room, the rest is 90% food. The air tickets was generally paid for by credit card points.
I always enjoy your videos.. youtube made your video worth more the money they pay you,, your experience sharing is priceless
So early that the video is unavailable :))
Alexandru Pop Same, scrolling or notification bell?
This is interesting that they send out the notification before it is ready. It might take some time to percolate to your region?
happened to me too. I thought Francis took the video down lol
You seem a lot more relaxed bush! Great to see.
Leaning back helps. I liked this more relaxed talk myself.
i retired at 40...5 years ago...when my wife is permanent here in australia she will bring in some extra $ from work...perfect! liked the video...mitchell
I retired early ---toughest part for me was the less social interaction w/ peers since most of the time older folks are the only ones retired and socially active during the day when I'm able to do stuff....as a veteran of Afganistan and in health care, I worked 24/7/365 and felt I worked a lot longer than my peers who didn't enter the military as a career....now I'm benefiting from that work.
That sounds rough. How is it 24/7? You can be sleeping and get called on?
@@BeatTheBush yes, military you're on call, work 7 days a week, often 12-14 hr days.....so like you mentioned, it felt like I was working overtime/extra compared to peers
I hope you get compensated for wait time? Maybe not at 100% rate but I think a fraction of that is reasonable.
@@BeatTheBush lifetime pension, healthcare for life is the compensation for those who make the military a career 20 yrs and allows FIRE in many cases
Just wondering if your retirement savings are sustainable if you decide to get married and have kids?
he will have to go back to his engineering job.
How much does that cost a month each?
@@BeatTheBush
don't sign a marriage contract with the state.
Awesome video. At what age did you retire?
How old are you? If you don’t mind me asking.
How long before you pay off your mortgage?
What about health insurance
Man this is so true! I work from home myself as a Digital Marketer and I often forget what day it is or taking afternoon naps 😴 Congratulations on your "Retirement!"
Isn't it great? It really beats fighting the commute 5 days a week day in day out.
Congrats on your retirement. Do you include your health insurance into your burn rate? How much is your insurance cost?
You inspire me to make plans for retirement earlier than most people. If you sell stuff on ebay, what is your ebay handle?
I don't have a public ebay one. I just sell my personal stuff like a garage sale.
Did you cut down on WiFi speed or quality of your video to save money ? That’s what it caused glitches ...Kidding ....

If you don't, your burn rate can be significantly higher due to rent and it can increase with the market.
ya man. def agree. bay area traffic is no joke.
@@BeatTheBush I guess you're right, full time work at $9/hr wouldn't be very much money haha
Retirement doesn't seem like it'll be in my future too soon, working from home is much more viable and sorta similar if I like what I do
Not having anything to do, any purpose, might be boring
have you ever thought about opening a liquor store or something in the same line where you have a very low chance of failure?
Dumbfoundlanka You think running a liquor store is easy?
Good question.open a shop, run it for a few years, hire a crew and have them run it while your not there...just an idea
@@taoist32 yes I've been working for 3 owners as a manager in nyc and my best friend opened a store in Sacramento the profit margins are really high and i haven't met a person who lost money from opening a liquor store in the last 10 years

How old are you Francis?
Are you invested in any stock market BTB?
Yes
I retired at 57 kind of impulsively because I was offered a huge golden handshake.. My main reason was the freeway pollution was making people sick. I’m well off and plan to die with zero.
whats the point of having a fireplace in california?
Yes, 1-2 months of the year, it gets cold. But not cold to some people that have snow. Californians are not so robust against extreme weather conditions typically.
