I may drop out of grad school after listening to this and finally feeling like I can listen to that voice within that says “you know you don’t want to do this!”
You don’t have to drop out. Don’t exercise quitting. Following thru is a very important habit to form. Plus you can always chase your dreams after you lock in your back up plan. I’m not saying to not throw your hard work away but in your case, it sounds like you are almost finished. Starting over is hard, especially if you are chasing a dream that has less structure than what ur studying. Also u can always find a creative avenue for ur current study. Follow thru!
This interview is a gift. I feel like I just watched a Rocky movie and am ready to run through the streets straight into the studio to make the most glorious thing I can humanly muster
OMG, Rick Rubin is super amazing and a genius. The world needs more men like him. I can't stop listening to his explanations to things. I am going to listen to all his interviews and definitely buy his book. Super great guy.
Thanks for the overview. I will order Ricks book. I’m stuck and I have my Art. It’s been very slow to come out of me. The freeze of my childhood trauma is thawing. I’m 69. I saw Hendrix play live in Seattle at the Colusium and now I play his leads on my 6 string Bass. I’m finding my way out thru channeling his energy and music- still in my world the Greatest. Someone had to do it!
I just got it yesterday and I've been pouring over it all day sitting in the forest. I made sure to get a paperback and im one of those types that makes notes and highlights areas because I can tell it's a book I'm going to re-read several times. Very inspiring
I could n"t be happier finding a place that feels like my place; my creativity ;my highest offering from all of me then and now and Im excited to see what comes. this is awesome conversation thank you.
57:28 i don't take any drungs, but i smoked pot like 7-10 times over last 20 years. But then, i understood that feeling i got was same that i get when i get into my "art zone", only I remember everything, have full control and then can recreate that texhnic in contrast to haze drugged scteching that happened as accident amd though i love the result, i understood that i can reach same state of mind that will be more beneficial in long run without dopings, and it is much more satisfying.
I am 65. I’ve been listening to Neil Young a long time. I saw him live in San Francisco when he did that live album he made into a movie. I saw that show.. one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life to this day. I don’t think Neil Young ever made a single song or a single album with the idea this will be a hit, ever. I don’t think it’s in him …

I don't know TM. ButbI know 😅 Nothing never about the tool. Here and now it is. I know, Rubin knows this. What and how ever this record might be shaped.
Fundamental difference is Rick knows it’s a game and he’s playing it. Dan thinks it’s a real competition of winners and losers and has developed an intellect to debunk the players and the game. Must be exhausting at some point
Dave, let's go methodphoracle in our next book. Does it cost to have a friendly non recorded phone call? 😅 Really tho. Would be surreal to talk to you or anyone else about this shit.
It's literally physical, the sun...not metaphysical whatsoever. The sun is literally going through your work. Moreso in the day than night. SMH Yes I believe in the metaphysical and the sun is something that you can actually feel, very physical.
Rick is the real deal
That’s an understatement
I may drop out of grad school after listening to this and finally feeling like I can listen to that voice within that says “you know you don’t want to do this!”
you can always go back. for now, go with your gut (your 2nd brain) and your heart.
Genuinely curious~ What are you studying? (and how did it start?)

You can do it!

Rick says it like it is. Some great insights into the creative process and the power of meditation and authenticity.
Yes, he does!
Discipline and grind, never thought this way about meditation

Why not 110% happier? Is enlightenment possible or not? If so, shouldn’t that be the goal?
10% is a S.M.A.R.T goal. Enlightenment happens when you are here-now.

A great supposed sophomore slump was Pinkerton by Weezer. It's now hands down the "true fan" cult classic.
34:09 Thats a very interesting and kind of disturbing fact that he asked that.
Dan and Rick are quite the duo!
1 or 2 phases at a time. 5 to 8 hours per phases. EVERYONES SIMILAR
Yes! But TM is just a brand name 😅 we are talking about awareness...
Tm is an abbreviation for transcendental meditation. It’s not a brand name. Transcendence has been around for ever
Dave, let's go methodphoracle in our next book. Does it cost to have a friendly non recorded phone call? 😅 Really tho. Would be surreal to talk to you or anyone else about this shit.
is there something better than happiness?
well done, congrats to all involved
Really annoying podcast more ads than content. It is a genuine feedback
At about 34:00 Dan confuses instinct with intuition.

26:25 doesn't sound ridiculous at all in terms on real truth
Thank you, but the amount of ads.
I was gonna say, what about Eminem? Berzerk
Ha what did Johnny say about me enlighten me if you would

fucking common sense AT LAST

I never get past the start always nearly 3 minutes introduction
Wow, ads every 2 minutes!!

We appreciate your take!
So many doubled ads that I stopped listening to
Why did the interviewer have to use the “F” word? It takes away from the quality of the interview.
😂
