While Black Flag is awesome and could really use a remake/remaster, if you want to play more AC games, I'd recommend Odyssey next. That one is set in ancient Greece and your ship plays a big part of it. The newer AC games are more RPG like and I like the combat mechanics more.
When I first played this game I had just turned 17, and it was my fifth year of back-to-back Assassin's Creed yearly releases. It didn't hit me until just now watching this video when you asked if we enjoyed these little moments - when the whale jumped out of the water - just how much of it I took for granted. Seeing you react to this game for the first time has rekindled my appreciation for something that was a big part of my youth, so I thought I should thank you for that. Cheers! P.S. Bird.

Not entirely sure you figured it out or not, but any ledge where birds fly off, you can jump off. There's always a hay bale or whatever that will break your fall as well as hide you at the bottom.
There was a genuinely good present day story for the first 5 AC games with Desmond Miles (AC1, AC2, AC Brotherhood, AC Revelations & AC3), but yeah they kind of dropped the ball with AC4 present day and every game since then. Good thing the rest of the game is great! 😂 @@LizXP

I’m literally typing this from the Swansea area in Wales where Edward Kenway was born, so the game as an extra special place in my heart beyond just being incredibly fun to play! 🤗 Oh btw, for future reference, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate has a playable female assassin and some really cool gothic and steampunk outfits that have very similar vibe to Serana in Skyrim 😁

The thing about the Assassin's Creed games is most of them you can play in any order since most of the games has a different story, although there's the Ezio collection which is best to play from the beginning (Assassin's Creed 2) because the Ezio collection is based around the same Assassin. I hope this helps, but don't worry about having to play the games from the very beginning & work yourself way up.

Aaarrrr matey, hoist those sails! Gonna have to watch later, my YT is acting up and not one video is loading but wanted to come comment anyways. Yo ho ho it's a pirates life for Liz!
Just a couple things. Trying SO had to not give spoilers. Keep an eye out for birds. The bird symbols on the map are waypoints & activating them (aside from being an iconic part of AC games) reveals areas of the map for you. I typically activate as many of them as I can first when in a new area. Also spots where birds are perched will usually be a place you can perform a leep of faith from. Note that you are a pirate AND an assassin. While you can choose to fight you way through it is often "better" to be sneaky. Related to that it is often helpful to think of your character as Spiderman but the trick is recognizing what you can & can not climb. It will become more clear as you progress but the real "story" of AC games occurs outside the animus & is the part which ties all the games together. Each game in the series is a more or less "standalone" in terms of what occurs within the animus. And last, don't worry too much about finding everything as you progress the story. Most places can be returned to (or replayed within the animus) and you can try to get anything/everthing then.
I definitely get better at sneaking in the next episode and figure out those map locations too! I'm having so much fun and can't wait to play more today!
One really useful tip, use the eagle vision during the tailing missions and it'll highlight the people you have to track, the people marked yellow will stay highlighted even through walls so if they speed away it'll help keep sight so you don't have to restart the mission, gives you a little more leeway as there are a few of these type of missions.

I have a special spot in my heart for this game. While I barely have time to play games anymore due to a busy work life, it's really great to join you in your journey as I get to visit some of my favorite memories from my days in uni while playing this game.
In this game, it is very easy to forget that you are an Assassin. Been playing this since January, and had too much fun sailing the seas and being a pirate that I forgot about the main mission. Nice job getting that pickpocket on your first try! I think I had to chase that guy about halfway across that city before I caught him on my 10th attempt.

black flag is also my favorite because you only have to deal with the Abstergo stuff the fewest amount of times. The face you made was exactly how i felt when i learned that was apart of these games, i just wanna do the fun stuff!
@@t.j.reynosa5747 Yeah, "purists" of the franchise always rag on Kassandra and Eivor for not being assassin protagonists, but they'll often give Kenway and Bayek a pass. Whenever I point out the fact that neither were an assassin they usually stammer on with the but...but...and can really make no argument for ranking them so high as assassins in the franchise, other than they can't admit it's just because they liked those two games. Silly stuff. They are games and really shouldn't be scrutinized that heavily. There are people out there who dedicate their entire channels to all things AC and usually are just whining and bitching about super small details or perceived inconsistencies between some of the games. I almost feel sorry for them...almost.
Just a tavern talk hint, when a guard is alerted, taking cover will most times let the threat indicator drop to yellow and then disappear. This is for the most part not a run and gun game. It rewards stealth and caution a lot

Favorite AC is Odyssey. I played as both characters. I never before chose a female character but playing the female Cassandra was very enjoyable. Black Flag is fantastic.
I was going to say something about starting a series with season 4 but then I remembered that my first AC was Odyssey 🤦 So... um, eNJoy this... um standalone game 😅. This one is a fan favorite. I replayed it and Freedom Cry recently. But Ezio and Desmond and *Connor" even Haytham are such well made characters. I just hope someday you'll get to know them and love them like I did.
Dayum, Pirate Liz is looking pretty good lol. If they ever make a movie or show based on this one, Charlie Hunam is like, the perfect choice for Edward.

Your first Assassin's Creed game, and you came in at the Peak experience. By far, my favorite one. Combining Assassin's Creed with the awesome Pirate stuff nearly ripped from the Sid Meier's Playbook. (only thing missing would be the real-time island economy, political, and trade background simulations that Sid Meiers had in his game).
I'm so happy, I've never played AC before either but this one seemed really good to me personally, so getting to watch you play thru it is even better! :)

And it's actually good that you start with this one, if you want to continue I highly recommend AC3 since it takes place after AC Black flag, the story is amazing and I think you would enjoy it, it's one of my favorites! @@LizXP No you should play older one's before ac 3, its terrible suggestion, you should play all of them in order (Black flag is fine) ac1, ac2, brotherhood, revelation, ac3 - Rogue, Unity - you can play syndicate whenever you want, Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, don't bother with mirage and thats it, normaly this is the best way to play it
Since no one else mentioned it and since I'm not sure you made the full connection about the BIRD symbols on the map. Those synchronization points are usually a little climbing puzzle with a rather nice jumping scene after you synchronized. But more importantly: They're *fast travel* points! So unlock as many as you can and don't just run by them. You'll be happy to have as many fast travel options as possible. The dancers and guys you can hire will follow you around and allow you to "merge" with them - lowering suspicion when you follow people. BUT you can also interact with them and send them onto a target. In which case they will leave you and go to your target, distracting them so that you can sneak by while their attention is elsewhere. The money throwing serves a similar purpose + it blocks streets for pursuers when on the run. Your camera movement is way too fast. You only look at your environment for fraction of a second. That's why you missed 3 opportunities in the fort to climb there without any fighting. You're quite lucky that fighting is so easy in this game. You might consider looking more slowly to spot climbing/jumping paths. But, if you enjoy mayhem ... go in it Rambo-style. And really look for those BIRD symbols and unlock them.
This is my favorite AC game of all time and literally the only ubisoft game that I've played through 4 different times. I almost never do that with games that I've finished once. This game is my childhood and it's characters and story is literally so dear to me. I'm so glad that you'll get to experience it for the first time. Please take in the story and the characters as much as you can and go on Edward's amazing journey with him. And by the end you'll surely understand why this game specifically is so dear to me and so many others. It's a shame ubisoft has not managed to make a game even close to this for almost 10 years now...

So happy to see that I'm not the only one who played Black Flag first! An amazing introduction to the AC series, even if some elements of the story might seem confusing to begin with. It doesn't matter though, the Jackdaw gameplay is worth the price of admission alone. I'd also recommend playing Rogue, since sailing the Morrigan around will satisfy any craving you have for more of the same!
Yay! I haven't been this excited about your channel since your stellar work on skyrim. Two tips: those black, kind-of 'x' shapes up high on buildings and terrain are worth checking out. And at this point you have only two friends in the game; the lovable, bumbling Stede is second bestie. Your best bestie is an inventory full of smoke bombs. Be safe, be well kiddo!
Definitely a fun game, glad to see you're enjoying it! And of course play whichever game interests you the most! I'm hyped for it! I hope you revisit the franchise soon and play a more traditional AC game, like AC2 and see what Ezio's story is about! He's got a whole trilogy. But time will tell!
lmao yeah I forgot you hadn't played the first 5 games. Luckily the 'modern' cut scene stuff isn't too long, maybe 10% of the game, other 90% is sailing the ocean and looting. Funny too see the reaction from someone new.
Fun to see you playing this classic game. Few tips in future play. You can also get down from high places by controlled climbing down, no need to drop down. When storm hits on open sea and you get warning about big waves. Sail straight towards them to escape ship damage. Unfortunately you have to take part on killing animals from whales to lesser critters, but they are digital. But do not get after whales and big sharks until you have fully upgraded your whaling boat.
I've played every AC except Mirage and finished all I've played except Valhalla, and this is my favorite AC. This is actually the game that hooked me into gaming properly and my first AC. Apart from AC1 this is the only AC where I've never used fast travel during the first playthrough and every time I play it I use it very rarely

Pretty awesome series. I’ve played all of them but 2 (Valhalla & Mirage) so I have some experience with these games. 🤣 My favorite is either 2, Brotherhood, Black Flag or Origins. All great. I started with the series all the way back to the first one in 2007 so I’ve been here since the very beginning and obvi when I got 2 for Christmas in 2009, that was a game changer for me. Enjoy!

I really don't know why they keep bothering with those modern day segments after AC3. Nobody cares about it and it just distracts from the fun stuff.

As much as I loved Black Flag the climbing was so janky.
Black Flag was also my first AC game, it's still in my top 3 in the series. My top 3 are; 3. Origins, 2. Black Flag, and 1. Brotherhood.

black flag is also my favorite because you only have to deal with the Abstergo stuff the fewest amount of times. The face you made was exactly how i felt when i learned that was apart of these games, i just wanna do the fun stuff!

You must've never played Syndicate. You didn't have to do anything in the modern day, just watch a few short cutscenes.
I love how Edward, was never really "Assassin" but just a pirate...true and proud. Plus it's a lot fun. I play through at least once a year.
@@t.j.reynosa5747 Yeah, "purists" of the franchise always rag on Kassandra and Eivor for not being assassin protagonists, but they'll often give Kenway and Bayek a pass. Whenever I point out the fact that neither were an assassin they usually stammer on with the but...but...and can really make no argument for ranking them so high as assassins in the franchise, other than they can't admit it's just because they liked those two games. Silly stuff. They are games and really shouldn't be scrutinized that heavily. There are people out there who dedicate their entire channels to all things AC and usually are just whining and bitching about super small details or perceived inconsistencies between some of the games. I almost feel sorry for them...almost.

Just a tavern talk hint, when a guard is alerted, taking cover will most times let the threat indicator drop to yellow and then disappear. This is for the most part not a run and gun game. It rewards stealth and caution a lot

Favorite AC is Odyssey. I played as both characters. I never before chose a female character but playing the female Cassandra was very enjoyable. Black Flag is fantastic.

I was going to say something about starting a series with season 4 but then I remembered that my first AC was Odyssey 🤦 So... um, eNJoy this... um standalone game 😅. This one is a fan favorite. I replayed it and Freedom Cry recently. But Ezio and Desmond and *Connor" even Haytham are such well made characters. I just hope someday you'll get to know them and love them like I did.

Your first Assassin's Creed game, and you came in at the Peak experience. By far, my favorite one. Combining Assassin's Creed with the awesome Pirate stuff nearly ripped from the Sid Meier's Playbook. (only thing missing would be the real-time island economy, political, and trade background simulations that Sid Meiers had in his game).
I'm so happy, I've never played AC before either but this one seemed really good to me personally, so getting to watch you play thru it is even better! :)

@@LizXP No you should play older one's before ac 3, its terrible suggestion, you should play all of them in order (Black flag is fine) ac1, ac2, brotherhood, revelation, ac3 - Rogue, Unity - you can play syndicate whenever you want, Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla, don't bother with mirage and thats it, normaly this is the best way to play it
Since no one else mentioned it and since I'm not sure you made the full connection about the BIRD symbols on the map. Those synchronization points are usually a little climbing puzzle with a rather nice jumping scene after you synchronized. But more importantly: They're *fast travel* points! So unlock as many as you can and don't just run by them. You'll be happy to have as many fast travel options as possible. The dancers and guys you can hire will follow you around and allow you to "merge" with them - lowering suspicion when you follow people. BUT you can also interact with them and send them onto a target. In which case they will leave you and go to your target, distracting them so that you can sneak by while their attention is elsewhere. The money throwing serves a similar purpose + it blocks streets for pursuers when on the run. Your camera movement is way too fast. You only look at your environment for fraction of a second. That's why you missed 3 opportunities in the fort to climb there without any fighting. You're quite lucky that fighting is so easy in this game. You might consider looking more slowly to spot climbing/jumping paths. But, if you enjoy mayhem ... go in it Rambo-style. And really look for those BIRD symbols and unlock them.
You're in for an exciting adventure with this one. Best AC game out of all of them.

This is my favorite AC game of all time and literally the only ubisoft game that I've played through 4 different times. I almost never do that with games that I've finished once. This game is my childhood and it's characters and story is literally so dear to me. I'm so glad that you'll get to experience it for the first time. Please take in the story and the characters as much as you can and go on Edward's amazing journey with him. And by the end you'll surely understand why this game specifically is so dear to me and so many others. It's a shame ubisoft has not managed to make a game even close to this for almost 10 years now...

So happy to see that I'm not the only one who played Black Flag first! An amazing introduction to the AC series, even if some elements of the story might seem confusing to begin with. It doesn't matter though, the Jackdaw gameplay is worth the price of admission alone. I'd also recommend playing Rogue, since sailing the Morrigan around will satisfy any craving you have for more of the same!

Yay! I haven't been this excited about your channel since your stellar work on skyrim. Two tips: those black, kind-of 'x' shapes up high on buildings and terrain are worth checking out. And at this point you have only two friends in the game; the lovable, bumbling Stede is second bestie. Your best bestie is an inventory full of smoke bombs. Be safe, be well kiddo!

lmao yeah I forgot you hadn't played the first 5 games. Luckily the 'modern' cut scene stuff isn't too long, maybe 10% of the game, other 90% is sailing the ocean and looting. Funny too see the reaction from someone new.

Fun to see you playing this classic game. Few tips in future play. You can also get down from high places by controlled climbing down, no need to drop down.
When storm hits on open sea and you get warning about big waves. Sail straight towards them to escape ship damage.
Unfortunately you have to take part on killing animals from whales to lesser critters, but they are digital. But do not get after whales and big sharks until you have fully upgraded your whaling boat.

I've played every AC except Mirage and finished all I've played except Valhalla, and this is my favorite AC. This is actually the game that hooked me into gaming properly and my first AC. Apart from AC1 this is the only AC where I've never used fast travel during the first playthrough and every time I play it I use it very rarely

Oh my gosh Liz, I'm SO excited for this playthrough. In the later AC games like Odyssey and Valhalla you have your own bird like an eagle or raven to help you survey the landscape and find things.🐧💖

My favorite is either 2, Brotherhood, Black Flag or Origins. All great.
I started with the series all the way back to the first one in 2007 so I’ve been here since the very beginning and obvi when I got 2 for Christmas in 2009, that was a game changer for me.

Main reason I love this game is cause the voice actor also plays DC’s Constantine in multiple things & he’s amazing! Love Matt Ryan’s voice & happy your diving into AC it’s a fun journey, I like this one the most, then Unity is my 2nd fav & then Valhalla

I'm currently playing muiltiple AC games at the moment. Black Flag I stopped playing for like 6 months because I couldn't finish this one mission but recently I've hopped back into it. Watching your playthrough is a good refresher . I live in Hawaii so this game feels so homely to me as well. Also I love Pirates of the Caribbean. You should also check out Black Sails TV show.
