    Just finished a 7-day bivac hike using my trusty FR255 as a recording/navigation device. Only had to charge it once as each day it was using about 20% of charge.
    I would say that the Enduro is really for the most extreme users, the 150 km ultra runners who don't want to charge their watch at any point. Otherwise the 955 Solar might be the better/cheaper option !

I love being able to go on a two week trip where I'll be swimming, biking and running and not having to bring a charger for this device. Most of my outdoor activities are in the forest which made using maps on the 6pro a challenge. I noticed you shot some b-roll in the forest with the enduro 3 backlight on. Hello! Does the Enduro 3 have titanium beisel without the extra DLC coating? The silver titanium beisel on the Series 8 watches gets scratched quickly. Does the Enduro 3 have the same bezel as the 8 series? Does the back cover on the Enduro 3 watch get scratched faster too?

    • @mlegrand

      It's just the basic titanium so it might end up getting and showing scratches. The back is that basic plastic material. I do think it'll show scratches as well. I get them from trying to drop it on a charging puck that I like to use.

    I am a Runner, cyclist, hiker, mountain climber. I don't know how I have managed myself with an Apple Watch for all these years, petting the AW like a Tamagotchi... taking the cable and charger everywhere charging and hoping it would last for a few more hours... I am done! Hopefully I will get the Enduro 3. I wonder how good is the refresh rate of the maps rendering on the Enduro 3? something I have to admit is that An Apple Watch series 5 (4 years old) can render maps pretty well using the app Work Out Doors (the best app for AW), the catch is that it would kill the battery in a few hours. So that's my only concern: How does the Enduro 3 renders maps (is the processor good?) and with the (new) MIP display?

    I am on my second enduro 3. The best I have gotten so far is 7% battery drain in one day. That is with hitting the gym 2x a day and no GPS. With GPS 2-3 hours tracking, nothing less than 11 percent at the end of the day. That is with the stock watch faces, continuous heart monitoring and o2 readings while sleeping. To say this watch will last over a month is simply not true, it won't get even close. You will be lucky to get 1.5 to 2 weeks. Also, the first one, I left outside in direct sunlight for just over 3 hours, and it never gained even 1% battery life. On the positive side, it's very light and a dream to wear.

      SpO2 tracking eats a lot, even when set to sleeping only. In my experience with fenix 6x 24/7 SpO2 literally halves the battery live, if not worth, and "sleeping only" reduces battery life by a quarter or so.
      Speaking of SpO2 - is it useful now? I find it almost useless in fenix 6 and saw the same feedback for the Elevate V4 (fenix 7 non-pro)... Is it better with Elevate V5? With my watches the difference in readings when sleeping in a place with horrible ventilation is barely visible, though I could clearly feel that I wasn't getting enough air when sleeping. I'm not a climber and I don't hike high enough, though. I was hoping it could help with sleep analysis and in case of illness or other non-altitude related stuff that can affect SpO2.
      Also with fenix 5x and fenix 6x I found out that auto backlight can reduce battery live in some cases.

    Have you tested the battery life or are these just the data spec sheets from garmin nicely rendered? Specs are one thing, but real life is what I am looking for. Most of the time the spec data promises too much, as the required lux ist most of the time not there in normal weather conditions and use on a wrist.

      These are 100% spec numbers from Garmin. I’ve found them to be pretty accurate. I haven’t done a 90 hour GPS activity and I also typically set the GPS mode into SatIQ mode instead of what’s being quoted here. But Garmin also reports on battery drain within the .fit file so I can extract that to make sure the estimates aim to matches their listed specs.

I even sent it to apple after a month and they told me it was fine and sent it back after having it in their facility for maybe 45 minutes before it showed they were sending in back.
    All that said, I am currently only getting 8-9…maybe 10 hours out of this thing at the moment. To be honest, it hasn’t been connected to my phone for probably the last 6-8 months because it was giving me pairing problems so I just stopped using the smartwatch features. Also, I hate that the screen is a real pain in the ass when your hands/fingers or display is wet.
    Coming from the apple side of things, are Garmin watches worth the switch? I basically use mine for the tracking metrics and music while I’m working out so I don’t have to take my phone with me. I’ve got my eye on this model over the Fenix 8, not sure if I like the size, but I can get the Enduro 3 for 799 out the door.

      I'm not seeing any noticeable lag in this watch. My theory on the lag is that Garmin is slowing down the refresh rates to a really low level and even potentially slowing down the clock speed of the cpu and then speeding things up once it knows it's being used and interacted with. This is common among all modern Garmin watches and even other brands like COROS.

      @@mlegrand Garmins are not as snappy and smooth in animations, as "nice" regular smartwatches, like Samsung or Apple. That's the part of the reason they live so long, and I personally don't mind considering how pathetic battery life is for those. If you are using buttons - it doesn't matter at all, because with buttons it goes as fast as you can press them (it will just skip animations if needed) and the visual part doesn't matter - you typically still can do things quicker with buttons than on other touch-oriented watches with their touchscreens)
      As for dynamic clocks and power - oh for sure, everything has it, not only watches. The difference is - how it is tuned and what is the maximum CPU is allowed to reach + some other details. For any device (from watches to phones to laptops and PCs) - if power efficiency is in the highest priority, the device will feel more laggy and sluggish.
      P.S. It goes from a high refresh rate and sped up animations freak in both phones and PCs xD

      In my opinion, the screen IS clearer than the previous Power Sapphire lens, and doubling the width of the black solar cell ring without reducing screen real estate was ingenious. The fiber reinforced polymer case is actually on almost all of their watches, with or without screwed on metal back plates. One difference in this instance is that the sides of the lugs (triangular openings) have been much more hollowed out than on previous models and on the Fenix 8. Too bad they only make it in the clown size. Looks like a dang plate on people’s wrist. I got the fenix 8 because I don’t want 51mm.

      which size did you end up getting?

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      And my wrists are tiny. I've kind of gotten used to the mega large size but I also feel like a clown wearing it sometimes 🤡

      Same. I'd consider it if it was smaller. My old Suunto is D 50 and it's already ridiculous.

    Let us address the elephant in the room: does it still have the terrible visibility of saphire + solar glass??

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That seems to be improved but on other watches I've noticed that the solar sapphire options are a bit more dim.

      @@mlegrand thanks,
      I'm still traumatized by the extremely poor visibility of the 7x solar sapphire...
      I really wish Garmin improves the light transmissivity of this type of glass

      I still have the Enduro 2 also. It's fantastic. I will say that the back of the watch isn't a super high priority but overall, the watch just doesn't feel as premium when it's made with plastic like this. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    Why the fake rain thou?

      Oh damn. Way too obvious? I always try to add something in these videos to make them a bit more unique. I once had a commenter say 'Why did you make your wife run in the rain?" 😂

    Ugly. I guess if you really really need insane amounts of battery its great but would rather have a really nice looking watch with a little less battery. Fenix 8 AMOLED is probably going to be my upgrade. The Epix 2 would last on my 13 hour hikes no problem without using any real battery saving options.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Oh yeah, 13 hours shouldn't be too much of an issue for this thing. I think it's designed or aimed at people doing 200 mile or 50 hour plus events. I don't think that's in my future. 😬 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

      @@mlegrand yes, makes total sense for the super hard core ultra runner to super long backpacking multi day hiker.
