One of Joel’s best shorts with Doc. Talked the guy into feeling something he’s never felt. I can’t believe he’s never made at least one proper execution that he felt was different than his punching. Been there long ago. When you finally get it right you will know it instantly. Doesn’t matter what release. What people don’t realize is this type execution will become an automatic process. With time you won’t even have need to have a mental conversation to make the execution. And the shot will break as the pin settles into its smallest float pattern. At least that’s how it does for me. Great video. Need the rest of it with everyone on the 3-d course.👍👍
The key to useing the surprise break. Is embellishing the fact that a surprise break is coming. AND saying. This is wonderfully. I understand exactly what your teaching. It's easier when one is younger. Anyway., your much correct on things. Too teach that with grace and patience is the key.
There’s no greater feeling in my book then beating target anticipation. I had a situation back in 09 where I made horrible shot on a great buck in KS at 27 yards drinking water broadside and he had no idea I was anywhere in his world. Luckily I recovered the deer but at that moment I made up my mind I was gonna go home and figure out how to overcome this horrible thing or I was gonna hang it up. I can say without hesitation that was a turning point in my bowhunting/archery career. Over the last 10 plus years I have made some awesome shots on game and never think anything about it as I know how it’s gonna go on my end. It’s the best feeling when you have that kind of discipline in your shot process. I went to two TAC events this year and it hurts my heart seeing folks struggle. I hope that they can find the time and discipline to rid themselves of target anticipation.
@@theWoodrow82 👍👍 I’m continually fascinated of the number of people that have not learned to use their release. There’s so much great information available but yet they continue to punch those triggers and hammer thumb buttons. Watch any TAC video and there’s ALWAYS at least one in every group. Sometimes it’s everyone. Why they won’t change is crazy.
I suffered with target panic for years until I switched to a thumb button and was able to release with back tension. Not promising it will fix yours but it fixed mine
If Sam is a level 10, I have to be about a level 35 trigger puncher. I'm pretty sure I've never had a surprise break in 25+ years of shooting a bow. I've had close to 2 hours of instruction on how to shoot. That was when I bought my first bow from a friend of my brothers. And I've been on my own since. So, I'd have to hire Joel for a week to have any chance at fixing it. Heck, I could hire Sam to teach me. I guarantee he know's more about shooting than I do.
I shot for 25yrs. All wrist strap and index. For the last 25rs I haven't been able too shoot. Started again 1yr ago. With a stans thumb. Retraining myself. Your a little obsessive. But all within reason.
And what is your logic for how that will derail a bow? I’d really like to hear your reasoning vs a baseless, and honestly pretty ridiculous, statement.
I'm a trigger puncher, out shoot everyone I know because I control when i release my arrow because "target panic" does not exist for me. Call it repetition from being neck deep in the sh1t, call it 26 years of shooting bows with an index release with a hair trigger. But when my sight hits that tiny dot, and it releases, it hits. It's all in what you know. Don't fix what works. I shoot 3 arrows, and shoot 3 different rings because I like my nocks. If you shoot 1.5 inch groups consistently at 20 yards, you're doing ok. Stop changing stuff all the time Shoot what's comfortable and PRACTICE. You'll get good. You can take everything off your bow and shoot fingers and shoot good at moving targets with enough practice, so imagine with all the attachments. Just find comfortable, and SHOOT.
I have never shot with a release. It has always been finger release Now firearms yes but not with a bow. I do know with firearms at 1000 yards the trigger discipline can bring so much into your shot.
There is a difference between "punching" and "commanding" the trigger to go off!!! Joel's way is NOT the only way!! P.S. his son just got beat by 2 trigger puncher/command shooters at field nationals this weekend
@ndpike13 not hating, simply stating that there is more ways than Joel's way.. Also look into any professional archery class at any kind of even and you'll see that 95% of the guys on the podium at "punching/commanding" the trigger
Agree. there is more than one way to skin a cat. Punching, when its working, is the most accurate way to shoot a bow... But when the mind starts anticipating, things get dicey fast. The guys who are top shooters and punch, have very strong minds to begin with. Very determined people.
@TheSchmuel well punching is when you have no contact with the trigger and you just grab/slap it VS command shooting you have your finger on the trigger with a slight amount of pressure the you finish the trigger when the pin gets where it needs to be. But yes when someone is trying to time the punch an the pin being in the middle thing can get bad fast..... But it looks in this video he is command shooting not punching. I'd like to see a video of him shooting his normal shot to see if he truly is punching or commanding.
@@tylerchubb3876 And just look how up and down these guys are annually and over a career. Joels way is NOT the only way.. Its just the CORRECT WAY.. Bodie is young and over time will dominate. !!!
Hell of a coach.. Guess that’s why big Bodie is one of the best archers in the world!!! Great vid, Dan. Thank you for this one.

Your very correct. About Many things. Lessons learned.
Joel is the man!! Helped me out tremendously at the Western Hunting Summit
That first surprise break is something else 😂😂😂 watching people’s face never gets old
Perfect timing - thanks for the reminder and free lessons!

Can’t wait for those public land hustles coming up this year

When you know things others dont, you have to be wise. Im sure you understand that
It’s great to see a group of people who are willing to work on their shot process. Personally my brain isn’t wired to shoot this way.
Let's go! 🏹

You know Joel. Your absolutely correct with a wrist strap index. PULL THROUGH THE SHOT WITH YOUR STRAP.

That dopamine hit of a great release
I feel like Joel's whole "pull away from your face" thing is a great way to derail a bow
it is perfectly fine
Yup. Be very careful
You have to derail your bow in order to derail your thinking, once you do that yo will be the most accurate archer on the planet.

CRNA ALL DAY BB. i bet all the girls at work love to hear his bow hunting stories
Was his trigger set too light? Seems like it went off really easily.
@@jons7e they said it was a bad trigger to use but good for this demonstration so I assumed it was an extra heavy trigger they were using.

Joel can get a free flagship bow with all the accessories but shoots a recurve.
