  • A runup, takeoff and landing in our DHC2 Beaver. In this video, I take you through my pre takeoff checks, and then talk through how I fly the Beaver.
You’ll see why the DHC-2 is renowned for its STOL characteristics, with a short takeoff into a 15 knot headwind.
A fairly strong crosswind on the landing, but the Beaver handles it well with just a touch of brake to keep it straight.
For the Beaver start up procedure, have a look at some of my other videos.

Excellent! Especially nice to hear and see a practical example of how to not have the prop drive the engine.

Thanks! Of course there are cases where it can’t be helped, but where I can I try to minimise it!

Nice looking machine. A 76 year old design and still nothing has been built that will do the job better.or even as well

I agree! There’s still no replacement for these old girls. Others might be faster, but none match the class!

Good video, not sure about your theory about the fine prop not till after landing. If you go full fine with throttle open or throttle almost closed but going fast, yeah the prop will drive the engine. But on final at final approach speed, your constant speed prop will already be as fine pitch as it can go because it cant hold the rpm you asked it to hold. At this point you may push the prop control to full fine without a change in rpm, prop will not be driving the engine.
    All the best ~
