Thanks for your honest review. That was the kind of video I was looking for, even though I will never be able to afford one. I have actually picked x100vi instead and carry it around with a 28mm/50mm equivalent as a daddy cam to take pictures of my erratically moving three-year-old. I am not actually sure if Q3 would do the same job for me when running around a kid's playground following the little devil in his adventures. Eager to watch your take on 43, anyway. Good light.
If people only knew what comments like these mean to me. I am trying my best, and always hope for my videos to help people. So thank you! I am sure the x100vi will be your best friend for a long time! Thanks again!
You don't need to apologise for loving Leica. I jumped from using Sony cameras to using a Leica and can say that there is a huge difference it the look to images, when compared . It's not hype! The Q3 is a fantastic camera. I love mine for the same reason! Great video!
It's funny that you're saying that, because I felt the same way watching the video over again today. I almost apoligized for loving it. I will embrace it going forward, and I love it. Do you have the 43 or 28? Thanks for watching!
@@kriswarwick Hello:) I've been on a journey with Leica, I got the Leica Q, then got hooked and bought the Q-P and then bought the Q3 a few months ago. I've never noticed the 28mm focal length because, like you said, it's about the photographer and nothing to do with the correct lens angle. If you have a good eye, any focal large is great. Your shots are amazing by the way! Forgot to mention that!!! The Q3 is the best camera I've ever had for all the reasons you say! I'm sticking with the 28mm.😀 Just subscribed to your channel!
@@grafikwork3808 first of all, thanks for being here and subscribing. And thanks for the compliments on my work! That means a lot when I put so much effort into these videos! Love to hear about your Leica journey. I am tempted to converting fully to Leica for my professional work! 28mm is underrated. IT's so good! I posted a side by side comparison with the 43 as a post on this channel!
Great video! I’m a Canon 5d4 and GFX shooter (lifestyle, fashion and documentary). I carry so much kit on commissions and honestly it kills me. I’m so tempted to grab one or two of these (always need a backup) and make it work. I’ve tested most current cameras and ‘the look’ largely comes down to lenses, sure different brands have slightly different colour science but lenses dictate so much. I need it to work with lights and be able to tether occasionally but I guess you can do that with the Q3? Thanks again for such an introspective analysis of how you’ve embraced this camera with a view to making you a better photographer.
Thanks a lot, and thanks for watching! I ready your comment and I just got the 43. What you're saying makes me consider only using these for my shoots. I don't know if I need the Sonys for still photography.... Only thing is the autofocus for sport photography.
Can't believe you spent over 20 min just talking without showing much of the work of the camera itself. That's super boring and not engaging at all. Should't Leica be the centre of attention of the video instead of you?
The way I see it you can see the work of the camera itself just about anywhere. You can go into my Instagram and all the photos I’ve taken the last year is with the Q3. And you can look up other photographers with the Q3. My goal and intention with this video was to share my thoughts (good or bad) about the camera. I am sorry you didn’t like it 🙃
How do you get around the distortions of a 28mil when shooting close-up portraits? On your IG are great portraits that totally lack those usual distortions, like noses appear bigger etc when getting to close to a subject. I reckon you stand further away from the subject and crop to a 35-50 mil FoV? I mean the 60 MP allow for it easily, just interested whether my assumption is correct.
That’s a great question and I should have said something about that! I think there are two ways around this/reasons for this. 1. 28 is not wide like a 20, so it doesn’t give you that much of distortion in the first place. But if you’re shooting super close-ups you’ll see it. It’s all about finding that perfect distance. 2. When you’ve found the perfect distance, you crop. I can take a portrait photo from a distance and it doesn’t look like a real portrait until I crop. When I do, the quality still is one of a kind and there’s no distortion. This is something I’m curious to compare when I get the 43 today!
@ thanks for confirming my assumption. I have the Leica Q 28 and the 43. Just wanted to make sure that I’m doing everything correct with the 28mil. I’m always curious if it is only me doing it like that or if Pros are simply better than me (which is for sure 😁) or use a different technique. For portrait and object oriented photography the 43 is better, it simply is and the crop reach is obviously greater as well, even at crops beyond 90mil where the 28mil started to struggle a bit the 43 is still very usable. But, when I’m on travel, the Q3 28 has in my view better flexibility. Landscape, city scene shots is where the 28mil shines and for people photography with the f1,7 and 60 MP one can still “fake” 35mil and even 50mil very very credible so far so that nobody would doubt the quality. So initially I wanted to sell the 28 when I got the 43, but now I’m keeping it despite preferring the “look” of the 43 for portraits. In fact I understand now much better why Leica chose the 28mil when they released the Q series, it is so versatile and I somewhat appreciate it now more than ever since the I got the 43. In any case, both versions are great cameras and great allrounders You will love the 43.
@@MrHobbs-rf3qv I was worried about this issue when I first got it, and wanted to make sure I didn't mess up on it.But the more I've used the camera, the more I have realized I have to be VERY close to the object for it to be distortion. Have you experienced the same? :) I got my 43 an hour ago, and I can already tell I will most likely keep both. Are you keeping both as well?
@@kriswarwick for a 28mil (26…😌) the Q3 has relatively low distortion, but when getting to close it obviously shows its respective lens character. In order to achieve a natural look and perspective I usually keep a distance of about 1,5 - 1,8m for portraits and then crop in. That works very very well. With the 43 that is obviously not needed, it perfectly mimics the natural perspective from whatever distance.
Makes sense! I tried them side by side yesterday and I see a few differences. I actually thought it would be more of a difference, but I love the 43 so far
That’s interesting and too bad if that’s the case, as that is a part of my review. But I guess it’s hard to judge it on anything else than what I experience myself. Maybe I should reach out to Leica
My old Q1 freezes a lot. So does my friends Q1. I have tried everything. Every setting. Different cards. Different batteries. Very annoying. One thing though. I tried to format the card on my macbook with the SD Memory Card Formatter app, instead of in camera. And for the last month, I have had no freeze. Lets see what happens. But still love it. The lens and sensor just renderes like nothing else.
I own a Q3 also and I agree completely. Since I hav it I didn't touch my X100v and Nikon DSLR anymore. But I will not buy the Q343; The 28 can see what the the 43 can but that's not the other way around.
I see what you mean. It’s enough of a difference for me to love it, but I thought it’d be more of a difference. Curious to see if that’s the same with the 43
@@kriswarwick I suspect it has a lot to do with the 50mm Summilux asp which has been attached to all my M's and creates magic, tho the magical look seemed best with it on the M8 and M11
