    When you kill a rat no one bats an eye
    But when kill a chipmunk because it's tearing up the insulation in your house everybody loses their minds.

      My parents had a squirrel chew it's way into their house, then chew through the sheet rock into the living room next to the chimney, poor little squirrel, pooping and urinating everywhere in the attic, sniff, sniff.

    It looks so surreal. The rat just disappears. Pretty sure this is how pizzas were invented

    • @Techischannel
      @Techischannel 7 ปีที่แล้ว +218

      Indeed, back in the day before Pizzas were Domesticated they had to be "Captured" useing a Large Vaerity of Meat and Vegtables (Usualy Tomatoes, Meat of the Cheese and Meat of the Salami-Furpig) and a Deadfall Trap know as the "Pizza Flatterner". As the name should sugegst the Pizzas are getting Flattend under the "Pizza Flatterner" since their "Mouths" are located on their back, the Bait was always located on the Underside of the "Pizza Flattener Fall Rock". The Result was the Raw Dead Pizza wich they would be cooked and Eaten Whole! Pizza and Bait.
      Since then the Pizzas were turned into Plants via a very complex biological Procedure and the production was not only Automated to the most part but also much more Humaine too.

  • @primitivepathways

    Great vid Shawn! The footage of the rats and mice getting caught and escaping was fantastic. Most people don't go through the trouble of trying to film the trap in action, and that was a great addition to this video. It adds validity to everything you do. Great job!

    • @primitivepathways
      @primitivepathways 8 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      +primitivepathways By the way I've scaled up the size of the Paiute deadfall and have even caught opossums and racoons with it. It worked great. You're right, it's an incredibly effective trap!

    • @ShawnWoodsMousetrapMonday
      @ShawnWoodsMousetrapMonday  8 ปีที่แล้ว +128

      +primitivepathways Thanks Billy. I will have to try the larger size on opossums or skunks. The trail camera I was using made filming the deadfall action very difficult because it only filmed for 10 seconds at a time when it is dark. For every mouse death it caught on video 10 went off without footage.

    • @Cretaal
      @Cretaal 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      logs work well, too. Or cut a log in half, carve a notch in to the round side at the end, then secure your irregular stone to that notch.

      If you can't figure out how to make a flat thing heavy and/or find a heavy flat thing, deadfall construction is not likely the highest of your problems. More likely the fact that yoursurvival situation is having been teleported to the Matrix loading room is the biggest of your problems.

  • @AnonymousSpiderman

    Rats and mice are kind of easy to catch, the problem is how many diseases and pathogens they carry.

    • @superandreanintendo
      @superandreanintendo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Rats are normal animals. All animals' disease and pathogens are caused by the environment were they live. In the nature rats carry like 0 diseases because they don't live inside in humid and dirty places like city rats.

    • @lmallenman
      @lmallenman 7 ปีที่แล้ว +85

      +AGNUStheBOSS not true at all. Hantavirus which causes hantavirus respiratory syndrome, is most often spread by the deer mouse in the US, which rarely lives around people and instead prefers wooded areas. Campers and farmers get the shit. Rats and mice crap and piss allover the place including their own nests and are gross as shit and carry disease plenty without the help of people or a wet environment.

    Good demo. A modification i use is 2 forked sticks. 1 for the angled stick with fork under the rock to prevent twisting and easier setup. Second stick is the vertical post stick with fork at the top to hold angled stick. Another mod that will help you is mashing the bait into the end of the trigger stick. i do like your adding the bait to the rock above the trigger stick making the animal climb on the trigger stick. thanks for sharing.

    That is one formerly healthy rat. Glad the ones I've been snap-trapping around my place aren't that big.
    Excellent skill to have in the ol' toolkit; thanks for sharing!

    That's a great system. Excellent presentation. Clear and to the point. But rats and mice? I have been in a severe survival situation in Northern Ontario and it's no joke when your in summer gear and it snows 4 feet in one night. I hunted Grouse with a pellet gun I found and it wasn't easy. I know I can go 9 days without food but a had access to n artesian well for water. I made snares out of some old wire I found and caught some rabbits which are pretty lean. I like your trap but I just can't eat rat.

      You could scale the Paiute deadfall to catch opossum or skunk

      Can they add a sound effect that sounds like a woopie cushion when the rats get squished

    • @adfaklsdjf

      the mouse squishes and the earth beneath it sinks to accommodate the squished mouse.
