  • Kenya is building Konza Technopolis, a $14.5 billion dollar smart city that Kenya’s hopes will become the Silicon Valley of Africa. Konza Technopolis will lie 60 kilometers southeast of Nairobi, covering 20.2 square kilometers and eventually hosting 185,000 people. It will host a world class postgraduate university and will have a green, pedestrian focused city layout. Konza Technopolis is under construction and its first phase is planned to be completed by 2022.

Africa is an amazing continent. And Kenya is one country that sticks in mind of becoming a superpower of Africa. Kenya has so much potential and their technology sector is booming. This is wonderful. The only thing I would add is that besides tech/silicon valley - type industry, Kenya should consider becoming the medical hub as well. Producing a percentage of the world's medical necessities is a good investment. You cannot go wrong in that industry. Whether producing medical equipment, medicine or medical tourism. I wish only the best things for Kenya. They are headed in a positive direction.

Especially of projects like this, where previously poorer regions of the world take on ambitious infrastructure projects, that lead to higher demand for educated people.
I really hope that this will succeed. A great scenario, since Kenya is an agricultural nation, would be that some of the tech companies that move in, are dedicated to agricultural R&D, and that this tech will spread to the rest of the region.

Are there any important factors that contribute to their success or failure? I've heard about *so* *many* of these over year years, but get the impression that most fail to get out of the "making promises" phase and into the "delivering promises" one.

@@terriegeorgez1380 The only things so far that I can praise Kenya would be its mobile network and its love for football.
I don't like how archaic some of its supposed areas of tech is. Uhuru promised a lot of things that he delivered on a miniscule scale, or delivered poorly where it put more harm in the economy than its worth.
The fact that its been in an economic trough for half of the time I've been there shows the effects of its poor state of government and its standards.
Most developed countries didn't take "centuries" to get where they are right now. The UAE and Qatar propelled themselves to their current state half the time that Kenya had thought itself to implement a more proper road system. On top of that, Kenya had a push up start in that it started off acquiring modern technology in its independence and an established road network. Most developed countries didn't have such a luxury like Kenya

I just hate how People generalize the west and exagerate lots of things including their People (wich is Basicly what you and other People criticize)
I must say, your comment is Just stupid. Do you know how many nations are growing fast? And do you know what People care about? Why would media report about development of a country when they can chose one that is not developing atrackting more people. Also Even fast developing countries are much more than just Africa. Lots os Asian nations like Philipines, Vietnam, Malasya, Indonesia, India, Pakistan etc
I Live in the west, and I have to say. People exagerate to much what media says. Speccially considering the fact that I have never seen Kenya in media (they don't care about Kenya, the same way Kenya's media doesnt care about Portugal)
Also yes, most african nations don't have much hope. And thats commun knowledge. So, what media says isn't necessarelly wrong. But its exagerating saying that europeans and americans think Africans are primitivo and have no techonology
      Pls stop
