I’ve heard that AMEX has a once in a lifetime sign up bonus offer. Say if you get the platinum card right away, you won’t be eligible for any sign up bonus on the lower gold and green cards. What path do you recommend? Get green, wait 2yrs, get gold, then 2yrs later platinum? Would that allow you to get all sigh up bonuses?
I dumped the Gold card this year after holding it for 30 years. Higher cost with no increase in benefits? Why? And it does not give 4X points for all restaurants. Was in NYC a couple of times this year and dined at a few privately owned sup shops and cafes that I did not get 4x points for. When I asked AMEX about this, they said 4x points are mostly for "established" restaurants, which I've come to realize means mostly chain restaurants. I did just apply for their Hilton card for the 100,000 SOB so I'll see how that one works out.
My wife and I have the AmEx white Hilton Honors and the AmEx gold Delta Airlines cards. That’s probably what we’ll stay with but we’ll keep monitoring possible upgrades.
Hi can you speak to the order in which you need to get the intermediate? I've heard if you get a platinum you can't go back and get Subs for a gold or green. Id like to hear your take on this. Thanks!!
I screwed myself when I got my AMEX cards. The Platinum was my first AMEX card, I got the gold 2yrs later then the BBP 2yrs after that. I’ve only gotten the sign up bonus for the platinum
But is it STILL WORTH IT to get the charge cards (green, gold, platinum) due to the increased annual fees? On the flip side Amex didn’t equally increase the benefits.
Don't do annual fees unless you can use the benefits of the card that will offset that fee. Otherwise, get cards with no annual fee. There are plenty of great cards with no annual fee. I have Discover, US Bank, Synchrony, Citi, etc... great cards, high limits but no annual fee. I gotta Amex Everyday ™ too tho because Amex but this particular Amex has no annual fee...
there is no ladder if you qualify for one card with american express you qualify for them all. my first card ever was blue cash everyday with 2k limit a motnh later got the gold card and 5 days later the platinum then got the blue buisnes plus a couple months after that.
@kaaylaskorner i used to buy everything cash. I saved up to buy furniture for my apartment then just used the cards instead . the gold card I did naturally spending at grocery stores and restaurants the platinum I bought furniture and a couple trips to Vegas and 2 months rent those 2 gives you 6 months the blue business I bought random stuff for the house and tech and pad it off over time since it had zero apr. Funny thing it's been 2 years I have around 350k points and haven't done anything with them yet
Between my husband and I we have the American Express gold, platinum, platinum business, Hilton, and Marriott cards.
Amazing 👏
5:04 the Holy Grail 🙌🏽

Do you recommend starting with the green card then gold then platinum to follow the Amex family rule? I know the gold has an elevated offer right now
Yes, if you want to get all the sign up bonuses. Don't worry about elevated offers. Offers (and inflation) will always go up over time.

You said you can't have more than 5 AMEX cards and then you said you have dozens of them. 🤔
I assume he was talking about personal cards; the other cards he has are AMEX business cards.

Same screw up here
My Amex Gold in the UK comes with lounge access
My BCP only a super low limit but my Platinum POT is much higher. I’ll be swapping the BCP to BCE next year.
What about the light and dark blue

I use AmEx Offers to offset my Plat annual fee. I’m way over the $695 fee using spending I already planned to make: gas, utilities, travel, etc.

You would have to spend a lot of money to get the SUB for all of them if you got that many so close together. I'm not in that income bracket. :- (

Amex is a scam. I dont pay to hold a card.
