Girl you’ve put me on so many new authors. !! Also Perceval Everett is great. Erasure is absolutely great. I loved James too. But I’d say start with erasure though you haven’t gotten that one. Also James Baldwin is another phenomenal author I’ve read if Beale street and go tell it on the mountain both were great
I’m so glad! Thanks so much for the recs. I have to get Erasure..I knew he had another popular title but I couldn’t remember the name! When I finally finish my first Everett then I’ll allow myself to get Erasure lol. So basically read all the Baldwin I have. Got it!
You can film organizing your books too. might take a week or two but that could be fun. and an unhaul too

Definitely read JAMES, and add ERASURE to your list for Percival Everett
When I first posted this video everyone was yelling for James and I was so torn between that and Erasure (I wanna watch the movie lol). Ultimately I decided to just read James which I’m actually currently reading! And liking 🙌🏾
I haven't read any James McBride either. I recently picked up The Good Lord Bird, so hopefully, I get to it soon.
J. California Cooper is one of my favs. I recommend Family and Life is Short But Wide. I have enjoyed some of her short story collections as well.
I enjoyed James and Erasure by Everett.
I’ve already started Family and I can definitely see why it’s a favorite for a lot of people! I think I’ll start with James for Everett but do you think I need to read huckleberry?? I was never forced to read that in school 😩

I never watched Queen Sugar because I never read the books. You can't go wrong with any James Baldwin!
Listen. I did the same thing with Queen sugar. Girl go head and watch the show. It’s different. Like gender differences and all that. I read the first 15%. Decided to just give myself episode one and I saw how different so many things were. The book was dragging so I was happy to put it down.

I shy away from short story collections too but you should definitely read Homemade Love and Family. Skip So Much Blue it's terrible. It was my first read from him. I've read Erasure, The Trees, I am Not Sidney Poitier and loved them all. Assumption is on my TBRas is James. I've read all those Baldwin books except Go Tell it on the Mountain. Girl they are all excellent' You can't go wrong. Enjoy those Baldwin books. Another Country is one of my faves from him. I definitely love his fiction more. Happy reading!

I recommend J.California cooper book Family.Another one you should read is James Baldwin if Beale street could Talk.The audiobook for If Beale street could Talk is good also.Lauren Blackwood The dangerous ones sound like it would be good.Then you mention vampires I know that book will be good.I hope that helped a little. If Beale Street Could Talk. I only read it because the movie was coming out. Percivel Evertt....never heard of him until the movie American Fiction. Found out it is based on his book Erasure (from the credits in the movie) Then I ran out and bought James.(LOL)...Thank you for putting me on to Abdulrazak Gurnah, Ngugi Wa Thiong'o and BOOKOFF. Lived in NYC all my life and NEVER heard of BOOKOFF. BIG BIG THANK YOU FOR THAT. I can't pull my weight because all my books are recommendations from you. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

@@ChocolateCoveredPages 🥴i don' t have a fav by him, I read him back in the day bcus well I read most black authors I came across but honestly I don't have a fav, and you couldn't discuss black literature in the early 2000's (my prime time 😂) without discussing JB.

I’m not complaining I just want a lil order 😩. I’ve been growing it for the last 16 years or so.
If you are building a library, it is ok not to be expected to read all of your books. I have thousands and thousands of books by African American, African, Carib and Afro Britauthors. When I am out book buying, I usually pick up all the books by and about people of color. If I come across a book that I already have, I buy it to sell.
Ooo I’d love to see your library! That’s very similar to what I do as well and when I finally get to it, if I don’t feel like it’s a favorite I donate it. I’ve been slowly putting together my shelves of just favorites.
