I'm locked and loaded for Prime Day. I liked Have you heard about Kitty Karr? It's a past & present story in which I preferred the past storyline. Wait to you get to The Woods, that story was something! Adding Percival Everett & Akwaeke Emezi to my list. I read your death also and enjoyed it.

Evan Winter is an amazing author. Hunt down anything he goes asap. I've read the first two books of his trilogy and they were both fantastic reads.

_The Good Luck Girls_ surely did not get enough love. I found it in the library book sale for a dollar, and it was the best bargain ever! There's a sequel, _The Sisters of Reckoning,_ which I haven't read yet. I was really hoping for you to include _The City We Became_ in the "urban fantasy" section...but I am glad to see the Broken Earth trilogy on your list. (Oh, and BTW...the reason the orogenes are considered "inferior" is revealed in the other two books.) I wonder if you have read Nnedi Okorafor yet? Her Nsibidi Scripts trilogy is fantastic, with a strong Nigerian female main character, a fascinating "world within a world," and lots and lots of juju, masquerades (real ones, not dress-ups...the Mmuo Ako still gives me the crawlies), and a "do this or else" mission from none other than Udide, the great spider artist/trickster who lives under Lagos! (Some people call it "the Nigerian Harry Potter," but stuff that - this series is way better. I would rather earn _chittim_ by learning and ride a flying grasscutter any day.) I would also recommend _Wake of Vultures_ by Lila Bowen. It's a wild-west fantasy in an almost-America, and it follows Nettie Lonesome, a half-Black/half Native American who lives as a virtual slave with a couple of lazy, mean people. Her life is hard, and she never thinks she can escape...until the night she accidentally kills a vampire! Tons of adventures ensue for Nettie, and she learns that she has special abilities. At first, she disguises herself as a man so she can help the local lawmen hunt monsters, but realizes that the disguise is a true expression of self. There are _three sequels..._ _Conspiracy of Ravens,_ _Malice of Crows,_ and _Treason of Hawks._

You are a treasure and a delight! You're upbeat commentary is enlivening! I'm surprised you didn't mention Imaro by Charles R. Saunders; it predates all of these books! Back in the days of the big Conan and Tarzan rediscovery in the 70s Charles started writing what he called "sword and soul" novels. Great stuff & a pioneer that should be remembered. Check them out.

These sound really good! I have The Fifth Season, but I haven't read it yet. I have some further recommendations for you. I just finished "The Dance of Shadows," by Rogba Payne, and it was outstanding! It's fantasy, based on African mythology/folk tales. It's hard to find though. I got my copy in a book subscription box from Inkstone Books in the U.K. If you can get your hands on a copy, it's really good. Some books and authors that are maybe more Sci-Fi than strict fantasy, you can't go wrong with Octavia Butler. "Parable of the Sower" and "Parable of the Talents" are a dystopian duology written in the 1980s, and set in our time right now. A chilling thing about it, there's a corrupt political candidate in the second book whose campaign slogan is "Make America Great Again"! A more recent fantasy/Sci-Fi book by a current author would be "The Principle of Moments," by Esmie Jikiemi-Pearson. This was published in December 2023, has time travel moments, and I think maybe an alternate-reality London setting. I've not read it yet, but it's on my bookshelf just waiting for me to get to it.

Ngl i recently started the fifth season im struggling a bit because i usually do not like second person narration. I am working on it tho because I find it very interesting.

Ooh, i def want to read My Soul to Keep. Have you heard of the author Desiree? She has an urban fantasy series called the Hoodwinked Series and I think the author Natavia does fantasy too. Ohh and LA Banks, i believe they write about vampires, just some books i have heard about in the literary streets.

Rage of Dragons is my favorite fantasy book...full stop. Jemison's The Broken Earth Trilogy is has been on my TBR for a while but I finally purchased all three and that is the next series I'm going to read after my current book...Great Video!!!

Great recommendations! I still need to get to Rita Woods, Tananarive Due and Rebecca Roanhorse! The fifth season is definitely a tough one for beginners but it’s really good! Another that I would recommend on the indie side is Kimoni Legacy by Omari Richards. Very much epic fantasy so not for beginners
