Ooh, the slow movement here was another of my uni harmony exercises! I remember liking mine, but I do think Cherubini did a better job than I did :P
In any case, another knock-out by Luigi.
skilled and ingenuos; thanks for posting these compositions, that seem to be so much ignored
It's very sad indeed that Cherubini was very much admired by Beethoven and Schumann for his intricate harmonic style and counterpoint, yet seems to be so forgotten today. It's perhaps even more important to state again and again that Cherubini's quartets need not fear the comparison to Haydn and Beethoven and it's undeniable how original and at the same time elaborate his style is. When it comes to craft and counterpoint, his quartets are definitely at least equal to the great masters, something few non-canonized composers can actually claim, not even the great George Onslow.
@@maniak1768 yes you are absolutely right!
grandioso! grazie! chi esegue? non ho capito, ma ... fantastico
Is there a specific reason why the ensemble leaves out the off-beat-figure in the beginning of the Adagio?
They most surely have a different manuscript source from who engraved this score.
