Yep, cholesterol killed my mom at age 100. Hers was over 300- always. Her sisters were 103 and 105. So, with mine at 252 age 70. I’m NOT worried! Everything in moderation.
Just had a calcium CT scan that came back zero, Yay! . I did it as I just found out my cholesterol has elevated as I’m in enopause and high cholesterol runs in my family. How does the CT scan compared to the APOB, please and thank you
Great information, as always. My cholesterol numbers are considered 'elevated'; I'm certain it's genetic. I'll definitely talk to my Dr about adding the additional screening.❤
Thank you Susan for sharing your wisdom. I am in Canada. My Lipoprotein A is high and according to your video my APO B is high. I am healthy 65 year old in menopause since I was 48. I eat fairly healthy, I exercise 5 days a week and have been doing this for years. I have tried several different supplements to lower my cholesterol nothing seems to work. My Naturopath is now wanting me to try HRT. I was wondering if you would share your thoughts in regards to taking HRT for cholesterol. Thank you for your time, Debbie My Naturopath
Estrogen does have a very beneficial effect for the heart , but it is not indicated for lowering cholesterol. It does lower the risk of heart disease - and it can slightly lower cholesterol, but that is not the primary reason to take it. I would absolutely take estrogen !! and then I would look at a different medication to lower your cholesterol. We see a very small difference with estrogen alone, although it has other very important reasons for lowering heart disease. I'll be talking about that in a video in a couple of weeks. Red yeast rice (Thorne brand) or a statin !
@@drsusan thank you Susan for your quick response. I really do not want to go on a statin. Doctors have been trying to get me to take it for years. I’ve seen how my sister and brother’s mobility has deteriorated over the years from being on it. I am an active person and do not want to lose that. I started taking Berberine 2 months ago and will look into Red Yeast Rice. Thank you for the recommendations. I will be having a conversation about HRT next week with my doctor. ☺️
So true, most doctors don't give an AopB test and most people haven't heard of it. I heard BHRT lowers total cholesterol, LDL-C, and ApoB. Fiber and Psyllium Husk are great for lowering bad cholesterol. Great video, so informative, thank you.
Hi! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Since 9 months I saw your pastcast about colesterol. I am taking 2 capsules of red yeast and 2 envelopes of piper LDL. And my colesterol went down. But I am not sure if now I saw this postcast. I have to do any chanches.
My HDL and Trig are both 65 . My LDL is 214 and ApoB is 161 but I am super low carb & I fast 18/6. Do you recommend CAC scores for your patients? My Dr is more worried than me.
My overall was about 250 with ldl at 182. Hdl 59 and triglycerides at 115. I am going to ask the dr to do another panel to include apoB. Do you think i may be a good candidate for red yeast rice. Additionally i take cypionate shots in very small dose as part of my hormone replacement . Do you find the testosterone rises any of your levels and would it be safe for me to continue the testosterone therapy with these Cholesterol levels . Thank you
Please Help! I can’t tolerate a statin because they cause pain all over my body. I’ve tried many different ones and all have the same effect on my muscles. Do you have any alternatives because I understand Red Rice Yeast Will have the same effect on my body as the statins.
The provider told me to take red yeast rice trying to be more holistic, but does he know that people with kidney disease, thyroid problems, or musculoskeletal disorders, or those at higher risk of cancer?
Why red yeast rice over a low dose statin? I pretty much have more trust in fda approved drugs over non regulated supplements? Is red yeast rice better in some way?
It's just another option. It's certainly not a replacement for statins for patients who need them and as I mentioned, it actually is a low-dose statin - so basically they're the same thing. It's just an option to consider, mostly for patients who don't have high enough levels to take a prescription statin like me!

If your LDL is high you can bet your bottom dollar your Apo B will be high as well.
My Triglycerrides are.48 and HDL1.5. My MCV ( Bloode Cells ) are 98,rather large, but Ferritin and Hemoglobin normal /high .
You gave me so much to think about, thank you.
I'm so glad!

I read red rice yeast shouldn’t be taken if on a statin. Is that your info as well ?
Yes, you absolutely should not be on both. Red yeast rice is a mild statin . Don't need both !
So I take levothyroxine and pravastatin. Can I take red yeast rice? Thank you
You should not take a statin with red yeast rice

Absolutely there are alternatives to statins. I'm sure your cardiologist can tell you about them!
Repatha is a great option!
Thank you. 🙏🏼

Less joint pain with red yeast rice
