The name of the characters you are thinking of are Max Rebo and Sy Snootles. Max is the blue, vaguely elephant-like dude playing the keyboard in Jabba's Palace in Return of the Jedi. In fact, the band he plays in is called the Max Rebo Band. And Sy is the female singer in the band, with eyes on stocks and a mouth at the end of a proboscis-like extension. I know this because I thought the same thing about conchs a few years ago and looked up those characters' names at the time. I love the lil googly eyes conchs have, and their lil snoots, they look so cute.
I homeschool my son and show them if that counts haha. But yeah definitely - they're a great tool. They're packed with info but just concise enough to keep the short attention span of kids 😂 I really wish we had these back in school
Reminds me of the time I picked up a really pretty shell and started walking with it in my hands, and then a conch came out and touched my finger and I freaked out because i was 8 years old 😭😭
I once picked up a cool looking rock at the edge of a lake when I was a kid, so obviously I picked it up thinking I wanted to bring it home with me. Well when I turned it over, I noticed a big leech inching towards my fingers. I screamed and dropped it, running back towards my family. Safe to say, I'm still wary of big rocks in water to this day. In fact, in general I don't like going into bodies of water in nature for fear of leeches or getting stung by some unknown thing.
@@Alpha-zb8spIf there is one creature that definitely freaks me out, it's the cone snail. I have an irrational fear of stepping on one and getting shanked

I never bothered to think about the creature those shells belong to lmao. I was perfectly content with the idea of them just spawning on beaches with no discernible origin.
Fun tip: Conch is pronounced differently in the Caribbean. The C sounds like a k and the ch is also replaced with the sound of k. So instead of conch is would be pronounced konk.

His retention is really impressing me, and he's been sharing with his neighbors everything he's learned. Keep up the great work! Maybe start a nebula channel???
Thank you for all the great videos! :D I've always been fascinated by conches since I was a kid. Back then, I collected a lot of small, spiraled shells from a lake near my grandma's house. I always called them conch shells, but I learned today that they had been freshwater snails.
Im from Florida and we would pronounce conch as konk, and it would be served as a soup. conch soup was similar to clam chowder but would be quite spicy with chunks of Conch. It was very good, as I got older from a young teen and as time passed I noticed that no one ever had it on their menu any more.
Oh wait isnt the plate that some other snails used to seal the shell closed also called an operculum? Would it be safe to assume that conches used to do that as well, but evemtually evolved to use it for movement?
Omg, I just discover this channel and it is AMAZING! So much knowledge that you can hardly understand without seeing the corpses of these critters. I inmediately suscribed, it will definetely help me in my underwater video-journeys

The way this dude presents these videos and the background music really does remind me of those edutainment shows on PBS or some similar channel and for kids. That's what this channel reminds me of.
Wow thank you so much! I love collecting shells but find it so interesting to learn about the critter that made the shell. Thank you 👍🏼 I got to search and see about a video on how the shell layers are made; how long do they take to harden when a new layer (growth line) forms.
