You should testdrive W453 smart with that 0.9 turbo engine and stick. Take out the engine cover from trunk, you'll love it for sure. Little nugget that makes all the right noises and is amazing fun to drive.

actually in argentina and brazil they sell the UP pepper, wich is a low cost up gti with a 5 speed gearbox and no esp. They build then up to 180hp easily. On a small car it's quite a sleeper. From low down they're faster than any golf gti
I've driven a stock GTI and a tuned, 90hp up that made around 110 and I have to say the 6-speed of the GTI made the car 10x better. The gears on the stock 5-speed are so incredibly long that it really bogs down the car. Great for fuel economy I guess, but the shorter gears in the GTI are a godsend for the agility of the car.

Hey moog!
Going from pre facelift to post facelift requires complete wiring harness in the interior aswell as the bay.
You will also need new the facelift dash to fit the facelift radio. Both fitment AND cabus communication speed is different.
All in all you'll need a complete harness AND almost all modules swapped over for this to work as a complete car
Or a haltech and a good wiring guy?

Guys you realize how impressive it is that you, as youtubers, still work on nuggets after all these years. So nice to see you haven't ever forgotten your rots, even when working on extreme or exotic projects, you still build awesome nuggets. I BTW 100% agree! Been working on extreme projects too, but my favorite project ever was still a old Hyundai Scoupe 1,5T, final form was estimated to merely 228bhp
I used to have a new 300+hp car, all I could think of was my 28hp Morris...

The UP was really popular here in Brazil, however it got discontinued and used ones are going for around 12/15.000 dollars. The problem is that the minimum wage is around 250 dollars

Love your enthusiasm for the Up! GTI. In the UK, I have a fast Audi SUV (SQ2) 300 BHP and my wife has a stock 2022 Up! GTI - one of the last before they stopped selling them here - I find myself constantly stealing her car as it’s so much more fun to drive than mine - puts a huge smile on my face every time I get in the driving seat. I can’t see us ever selling the UP! - definitely a future classic.

I love the up! Just not the back glass lol. Wish we could get them here in the US. (I have a heavily modified S3 and and R8, but still love the UP! lol). The ABS pump is not "to keep you in the VW family".. When abs triggers it no doubt also impacts throttle, ignition timing etc.. I'm sure those things need to talk to each other. I was hoping you would drop in a VR5T... THAT would have been something!
Thank you so much for doing this build, it's really exiting and interesting to see. The UP is such a great car. I bought it as my first car and still drive it 6 years later. It is reliable, comfortable, good on gas, you can fit more stuff than you might think and it's honestly just fun to drive.

Yesterday I did a 266 mile trip in my Up! Very comfortable and only used half a tank of fuel... Seriously good cars
although I'm into me modding cars, one of the best things about MCM is the chemistry between Marty and Moog, 2 genuine friends doing what they love. ❤

I'm from Europe, and I work on weekends as pizza delivery, our pizzeria uses VW up's, I've been driving them for 4 years, they are the greatest little cars
These guys are always such a pleasant detox from all the other car TH-camr noise. Been subscribed for just over 10 years with a couple different accounts.
Small cars are SO much fun! As someone learning about maintaining and modifying cars with my Fiat 500 Twinair, as well as this channel of course, this video makes me SO happy and it's so good that you guys appreciate small cars too! I had been looking at the Up!, but went with the 500 because of the turbo and the teeny 0.9L, 2 cyl engine - mechanically it just seemed more "interesting" to me. It is so much fun to drive and work on, and it's great to see you guys sharing that joy in this video. It will be so cool to see a GTI Up! in Australia 😁
Keep an eye on the loom in the boot hatch, it gets pinched if the boot is slammed. Also, the door handles sometimes break off but can be repaired pretty easily. My girlfriend's one has done 115k miles + and won't die and still gets good mpg. Ideal city car really.

I owned a 2013 VW Up here in South Africa and to this day was the most fun I ever had in a car! It holds a special place in my heart and I miss it till this day!

When you pulled the intake filter I couldn't help noticing it looked suspiciously like a K&N replacement filter.
Totally agree, i have a 3 cylinder 2006 smart 454, 1.1, so much fun around London just loves the RPMs, and for long trips a 2006 Brabus 454 180 bhp and also so much fun.
