The second I saw Tek Knight’s name pop up while he was broadcasting, I grinned so hard lol. People who might not know him, how he is, or what he does aren’t ready to see his… perverseness 😂😂😂
He will ALWAYS investigate the WHOLE truth.
@@raghavpant3251I GET IT NOW 🤣it all makes sense
@@raghavpant3251 if there's a hole, there's a way.
@@projekttaku1if there’s a hole there’s a goal
I hope he shows up in season 4 of the boys. This was a nice introduction to him
I couldnt help but compare the main characters powers to wolverine. Its an aspect of body horror we just kinda get desensitized to but they both require them to stab themselves through the hand in order to use their powers but no body talks about how messed up that is.
I think its similar to bloodwork, a flash villain. also prone to injury and can manipulate his blood.
Hype for the second half of the season! Refreshing but definitely in The Boys universe!
Eh
Sam & Emma are so great together. They're my favorite characters so far
This show is GREAT. Sam and Emma, Marie and Jordan, Tek Knight. all of it is working SO well.
I'm so happy for the Tek Knight actor. He was amazing in Future Man, but never got any bigger roles after the show wraped. He's great and I hope to see more of him (not only in GenV).
The whole cast is solid asf
Emma(Cricket)is spectacular. One of my favorite characters introduced into television in the last few years as a whole.
You should cover this show weekly!
i really thought tek-knight’s sherlock bit was some kinda crazy robert downey jr reference. with rdj playing iron man and sherlock, and tek-knight originally being an iron man stand-in. i know it’s a reach but it’s fun to think they knew they didn’t have iron man armor budget so they just took one of rdj’s other iconic roles
A reach I can totally see
When Jeffery Dean Morgan was confirmed for season 4 of the Boys, I assumed he was gonna be Tek Knight. VERY curious who he will end up playing now
I think it's confirmed he's playing an original show created character named Joe Kessler. The only thing we know about the character is he has ties with Butcher.
My bet is he'll probably be the new leader of The Boys when Butcher dies from the overdose.
I really enjoyed Tek Knight and hoped he’d bad around as a running villain, working to find out the truth while the kids and Shetty tried to cover it up. That’s an interesting dynamic. Plus the performance was super strong, his powers were interesting, he was threatening. I think there was a lot of Homelander in the character’s presentation in the sense that he was having lots of fun, carries himself with an immense deal of superiority, was genuinely threatening and characters were scared of him. I’m actually sad he was outwitted so fast, but I think it makes sense in context and was done well. He wouldn’t work in the main series because the Boys would just kill him, and he isn’t powerful enough to do what Homelander does, so he would have worked so well as a main antagonist here in my opinion.
I hope Tek Knight comes back for revenge (or something). He was a really good blend of silly and competent.
The role that made me love Derek Wilson was Wolf (aka Corey Wolfhart aka Torque) from Futureman which was also done by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg
Yes! This show is not discussed enough and a perfect show to watch while waiting between new episodes.
He was so good in that
take this with a grain of salt as i haven't fully watched Euphoria or The Idol, but it feels like this show is executing the concepts those shows were going for, just 10x better. juxtaposing our character's powers with things like self-harm, bulimia, and mental illness is not an easy task, but they've really handled it well.
the commentary on the entertainment industry isn't new for the boys obviously, but it really pulls you to the characters who are pretty much all seen as dollar signs by every adult in this universe, even their parents. definitely worth talking about considering how many horrible stories come out about predatory hollywood execs, or college athletes being pushed by their parents. just good topical stuff
It's really wild actually how perfectly suited each character's power set is to thematically exploring each young adult social issue. a sign of good writing is when the plot, characters, and themes seem to interact effortlessly, and I gotta say this show really feels effortless and I mean that in the best possible way
Yeah, when you strip The Boys of all it's edginess and gross out moments it is a very poignant if not subtle satire of our society.
Wondering how much crossover we’ll get between the Shows if this one does well. It’s nice to have Gen V as broader scope of Universe that allows for more worldbuilding and leaves the original Show alone to tell the focused story it wants.
So far loving this show and especially tek knight
I really want an explanation of Jordan’s power as it seems like it’s a lot of stuff all at once, at first I thought it was like when they swapped bodies it was like an immunity effect. But then she shot out an energy blast and I have no clue what their powers actually are
Yeah, I was wondering that myself and after 4 episodes I still have no clue.
Probably absorbing energy as male and expelling it as female but idk
Golden boy has The Human torch's powers. And acts like Johny in his early years
derek was in futureman, i liked seeing him tackle such a different character!
The main character's powers remind me more of the deadman from deadman wonderland
Jordan's powers did jump around, implied that male/female had a different power set but kinda jumped around. As for the main characters blood powers, the closest I found was UK series Misfits, where a character had power to manipulate milk (yes milk), that one got surprisingly dark & sociopathic (the best defence against the character was being lactose intolerant & therefore having no milk in your digestive system). Oh wow, I didn't recognise actor Derek Wilson - I loved him in FutureMan. One of my favourite very attractive, but very funny actors.
The original idea behind Marie Moreau was another parody of Wolverine (The Boys universe has a lot of those). Her main powers were going to be a healing factor and tendril-like veins she shoots out of her body (veins instead of bone claws). However, during the production of the show, her powers were changed from tendril veins to controlling blood more broadly.
Golden boy's powers are closer to the Human torch rather than wonder man. He can cover his body in flaming energy, fly and shooting fire blasts. He also has super strength but most supers have some degree of super strength in The Boys.
Jordan Li has the power to switch between male and female forms. My understanding is that in their male form they have the powers of Nigh-invulnerability and High-level super strength while in their female form they have the powers of energy blasts, super agility and mildly enhanced strength and durability. In either form they are super strong and tough, they are just much stronger and tougher in their male form.
Tek Knight does have superpowers. Homelander wouldn’t want him on the team though
You should totally cover some invincible stuff when season 2 comes out
I was watching Billions literally right before this ep (I was a week behind on Gen V) and this same actor got introduced to both shows one ep after the other. Felt like a hell of a coincidence.
Marie Moureau has some references to rogue as well: the traumatic way of discovering the powers, the guilt over what happened, the name is kind of similar Marie/Anna-Marie and the attitude of having to look out for herself and not letting anyone get too close, at least at first.
some of those out-door shots were shot at my school, utm
I'm enjoying Gen V more than I do The Boys
I am surprised how much I've enjoyed the show, given "powered college kids in The Boys universe" seemed an underwhelming idea to me, partly as I'm not really a fan of most teen/college age characters or shows focused on them.
Same
In the comics tek knight dies like the same issue he gets introduced
Marie basically has the same powers as the MC from Deadman Wonderland it seems
Marie has the most power. She can kill homelander by dropping all his blood to his feet
Tecknight is quite handsome tho
Jordan li is the best character....
His powers is literally being trans💀. Garbage superpower and garbage character.
so true, i’m obsessed with them
Emma and Jordan is fighting for top spot for me but Sam might make it a 3way tie 😅
I would kinda argue this show is better??? I mean MAYBE not, but it’s different from the boys in the sense that the powers in gen v are more like metaphors for their characters? If that makes sense? Rather than mostly “this is what it would be like if a guy had these powers” and I vibe with that much more. It’s very comic book
So far i like it more than the boys.
Ngl same here
I think it's because Gen V characters are more likeable as a whole compared to The Boys cast were at least 50% of our leads are awful people
What kind drugs are you guys taking? Can I get some because I want to be stupid.
I find it so mid
@@shippendales8543come on, next thing you are going to tell me that Garth Ennis hates super heros and all his characters are assholes or psychopaths. Or both 😂
Gen V is awesome. For me, a Marvel fan, it's refreshing. Better than The Boys
Well, after seeing The Boys it is nothing new but still pretty solid in my book.
I wonder if we will ever get Jack from Jupiter.
Marie is Bloodwork from DC comics
Marie Moreau is a blood bender bro
I see that Return of the Jedi: From a Certain Point of View, how are you liking it?
Derek Wilson is fun
Nando the actor for tek knight looks just like you. You caught that right?
Ofc he’s a Wilson brother lmfao
I loved the Boys and didn't give a shit about this show coming up but it's really been a great surprise so far. It's like the X-Men but fucked up
Remembering how homelander made that one dude deaf I’m guessing he wouldn’t like the Batman stand in
That deaf dude and this guy both have super senses. Both basically Daredevil
Homelander specifically didn’t like that guy because he was disabled and Ashley wanted to put him in The Seven.
Can't be the only one who thinks Tek & Nando look alike 😂
The thing I didn't buy this episode was the sudden sexual tension between Marie and Jordan, that came out of nowhere for me.
Same, that was a bit jarring. The show did not tease enough romantic chemistry between them for this episode to go there with them, and tbh it seemed a bit unnecessary to Marie's story, actually to both of their stories.
Didnt cacth the male deffencive female offencive thing while watching the show, my theory was more like I frames any time they transform :D
"Not as good as the boys but still pretty good"
so glad to see the show getting the praise it deserves, such a good show. all i see are boomer takes saying how cringe gen z culture is
also u totally blew my mind cuz I was so confused as to the practicality of Jordan’s power but the defense/offense dynamic makes so much more sense. i kept thinking “why is being bigender ranked so high” lmao
My girlfriend kept saying she hates him which is understandable but yeah I love him
my problem with the hole thing is its felt like The Boys is a bit one trick pony in how it treats its approach to superhero critique in that it's always "and they do this weird sex thing!" which I'm finding a bit stale. Like, they can't think of reasons these people are bad or flawed that isn't just sex related most of the time.
Overall, I'm really liking Gen V but i wish it was more about teen drama and less about Vaught conspiracy. The strongest parts are character's struggling with their personal issues at university but it's pushed aside for more "vaught is doing bad stuff" A plot
I'll tell you, as a guy who has read the source material, that is an issue of UNDER-correcting from the original comics: in those, the ratio of "Superhero flaws" is like, 75% "Sex and/or drugs" and 25% "pure mercenary apathy to human life". Arguably more, since like, Herogasm is not just a house party, but explicitly something almost every Super attends almost every year.
And while the writers have done a great job fleshing out characters that are under-developed in the comics, given that "the hole thing" is basically the only canon trait of Tek Knight, I don't know that they could have gotten away from it without upsetting people.
Understandable critique, but I think the story actually needs the vought conspiracy plot in order to tell the character based teen social issues stories. this show, especially in this universe where basically all supes comes from one American corporation or competing government interests, can't have the same or similar format or formula of a regular teen drama because those are usually issues of the week where the teen drama social issue (drugs, sex, gun violence, etc) is the focus of the plot rather than an aspect of the character or plot device used to service the story. As a superhero show in 2023, that kind of format would get boring way too quick, it would basically become a raunchy version of Sky High, but even that needed a conspiracy plot to move the character's and their stories along.
Bloodbender is the word you're looking for at 0:55
Yes! That’s exactly what it is.
I kinda want Marie and Andre to kill Tek Knight in a fucked up way, he made me hate him so much, it was great!
Marie is just Skarlet from Mortal Kombat, or Power from Chainsaw Man.
I just realized that your channel names are a play on Batman V Superman and the Snyder Cut...well done 👏
Gen V is nothing new if you seen The Boys. But if you liked The Boys you will probably like Gen V.
Some of these characters have a Brown Bomber vibe lol
I took Marie’s power to be a riff on water bending
Girl out here blood bending.
I know you like him because he's literally you.
I didn’t like episode 4, I did like Tek Knight but I think they just wrote him out of it in the weirdest way so that makes me hate the episode even more
It's okay but sometimes it's trying to hard and forcing social commentary and things in that the boys did more naturally. The fake influencer stuff, mandatory weird sex thing every episode even if it doesn't fit, Jordan's struggle not making any sense within the show, the relationships with no setup or chemistry.
It gets better the more episodes you get into it but I don't see those problems being fixed anytime soon. What the villain is trying to do could lead to an interesting place because the boys would probably love and team up with the villains in the show. I wonder if they will explore that. But the way the show is going I don't think they're clever enough to pull it off. Probably be something boring and generic.
Except when he said her pupils were dilating when they were constricting. Embarrassing
I questioned my eyesight when he did that!
I like the satirical aspects of The Boys franchise, but I really despise the nihilistic aspect and where it’s so gross and over the top. Invincible is much better at balancing out meaningful stories and characters with violence.
The whole schtick of the boys is that its gross and over the top LMAO. youre allowed to dislike it (its certainly not for everyone) but that doesnt make of bad. Im usually squeamish about fictional gore but actually really enjoy how bloody the boys is simply because the violence is so damn creative
If I being honest. I'm not really feeling Gen V. It's exacerbates all the issues with the boys and dials it up to 11. This feels like an edgy emo 12 year old kid's version of of Sky High. Like everyone is a odd quirk.
Edgy emo sky high would honestly be awesome
That's more an issue with the genre than the show though
Gen V is a coming of age story
about young adults who still haven't become who they are supposed to me , they haven't settled into being who they are like the boys
Dialing the issues up to an eleven
Is in line with the age of the characters
Teen young adult issues seem so much worse than they actually are
I actually like it's a Edgy Emo Sky High which I love
Gen V expands on what we know from the boys
Voughy is interested in making a profit from supes and using their abilities in every way they can
Either using them as distractions in movies or as supes ( essentially weapons )
I find the Gen V characters more likeable as a whole in comparison to the boys
Butcher great character but extremely unlikeable
Even Hughie isn't particularly likeable as a person
I'd say Starlight , Frenchie, Mother's milk and Kimiko are the most likeable people in The Boys and maybe Maeve who is a character who struggles with being good and doing good
Everyone else is kind of trash
I was really worried that they would make all of the characters in likable and just as bad as most of the supes in the boys, but the main cast is a really great balance of flawed and likeable. I love that they mostly really want to be heroes
