    We just had a huge snow storm here in Ontario a couple days ago with 21 plus inches of the white stuff and I was able to put my wife's palisade to the test. We do have some Michelin X Ice on the vehicle, and let me say I've had lots of AWD and 4x4 vehicles like Ford, GMC, Toyota, Volvo and my wife's last vehicle was a wrangler Rubicon, I loved the jeep but it was just too small for 2 kids and 2 big dogs. I was very impressed with how the Palisade performed! Didn't have any problems getting around. Hit a couple of very deep snow spots where the plows blocked in the side streets and this thing just plowed right through. One time I though I was stuck but the tires just dug down to the pavement and I was moving again. I was very skeptical about getting a Hyundai at first but after owning the Palisade for a 4 months now I am very happy with our purchase.

    I figure 99.999999% of people never go off road. And nobody buys it for 0-60. Its a daily driver for most people. I live in Canada and have snow tires so why use all seasons that are really not all season but marketing? But I like seeing different perspectives. I have subscribed.

    Testing a car’s ability in snow by starting from full stop on an incline covered in ice without winter tires is not representative of anything.

    I don't find the AWD to be a problem at all. It is street tuned like many AWD systems. AWD systems in vehicles from Ford, Nissan, Mercedes, etc also shut down in certain conditions.

  • @chico1014
    @chico1014 3 ปีที่แล้ว +88

    It's not the awd system at fault here,it's the tires,you can see the system sending power all around but no grip with the all seasons,and why would anybody try to drive through the slick stuff and not use momentum,you can get anything stuck if you try hard enough

      @KorraTheFrenchie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with most of what was said. Simply adjusting the driving technique once the tires lost grip and couldn’t do anymore solved the problem. Driving technique plus the car’s computer, could probably handle it pretty easily. If an owner “could” switch out the tires for something more appropriate for the conditions, I’m betting it would have been just fine.

    PLEASE CORRECT YOUR MISINFORMATION AT THE 2:00 MARK. I own the 2021 calligraphy and know for a fact you were incorrect on these topics:
    - you mentioned that apple CarPlay doesn’t take up the screen anymore. CarPlay DOES take up the full screen. All you have to do is turn off the split screen option in the CarPlay settings of the car. (Note: to access this setting, CarPlay cannot be active, so your phone must be UNPLUGGED from the car.)
    - you mentioned that the drive mode changes do not animate anymore in the infotainment screen. Yes they do. You just have to enable the animations in the car’s settings. IT IS THERE. Just have to hunt for it.
    Please be sure to thoroughly research the car’s settings before making statements like these

    Great review , but in all fairness it's not the car or the transmission that failed you, it was clearly the tires. All wheels were spinning and no forward progress made because of loss of traction. You could have had 3 diffs locked and get the same result with these tires.Not to mention the 20" rims. Snow tires are made for snow, not that cheap "all season" crap they put from the factory. (As a Canadian driver I should know). The shut down was imminent to save the engine and components. However, I think there had to be a warning light after that. Hyundai should come up with an explanation or a fix.

I saw in another video where a person had the same shutdown when they caught the engine just turning itself off as they stepped on the gas, and it confused the whole system. Restarted the car and it was like nothing happened. Never been a fan of that feature so I would just leave that off myself.

    2:06 I'm glad you pointing it out, i hope they see your review. How in the world they manage to make things worse in newer model and it passes for production? And it's just programing, person in office chair doing it's keyboard labor, it's not like they have to remodel the bumper, manufacture it and pass it through collision test
    it was actually spinning all wheels and it seems with closed center clutch it had better continuous delivery, unless that was just more throttle, it's too bad it quits even it's not grinding clutches, but maybe they have built in fault mode when vehicle doesn't move even if there is wheel spin, especially with faster wheel spin 13:34... I agree there should be at least some sort of code message for damage prevention, there could be things we don't know of which can go bad

      I own a 21 calligraphy. Apple CarPlay CAN be used full screen. It is a setting you have to change. While I would normally agree with that, we test drove and researched the Pilot vs the Palisade. The Palisade is comparable or better it just about every way and was about $5K cheaper. Additionally, it has a better expected reliability vs the Pilot according to Consumer Reports. My limited experience with the Palisade's AWD is that it is good enough but not as good as my Outback's AWD, but I don't have any experience with the Pilot's AWD to draw a comparison. I would like to see other cars doing this same run in the video in the snow to make a comparison.

    Were buying one for my wife. Overall impressed with its snow abilities given the conditions and tires. Think that shut down was a fluke. I was climbing an incline slowly in her old Cadillac and it killed power and put it in park. I mean, lets face it, no one is gonna be trying to get through snow like this, he’s just trying to see the AWD system ability. It probably tried for too long and it’s probably the car’s way of saying stop, cause it doesn’t know whats going on. Anyone else would kill traction, lock the wheels, and give her the beans 😈

    I am sad to see the HTRAC system is still only marginal at best. I had a pretty bad experience with a Santa Fe a couple of years ago. The issue is with the AWD center clutch pack that overheats very easily and the electronics have to intervene quickly to shut everything down. Honestly the 4-wheel lock is a joke on these. Surprising that you did not have an overheating indicator; now imagine adding their 8-speed dual clutch to the mix and the result is even scarier. Better to stay on the beaten path with a Hyundai/Kia with HTRAC.

      In all honesty, I had the 2008 subaru Tribeca limited and lived it so did my kids and my wife. It was our first subaru. Now we have the 2020 ascent limited 8 seats and somehow I don't feel the fun as i had with the Tribeca. Could be the cvt? Not sure. So I wanted to trade it for the palisade limited or sel. But wife and kids are not too excited about that. My dislikes with the ascent limited are the lack of trunk space with 3rd row up. The position of the USB on the 3rd row seat when my kids are there, still getting used to the cvt. The palisade offers more luxury and features for the same price as the ascent limited or touring. Am I being too picky? I don't take my vehicle off road but am planning to go camping this summer with family. So what do you think? Long term wise, am I better off keeping the ascent or getting the palisade?

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zogadwoe ...as a lot of reviewers say, "...it's tough to buy a bad car these days; but it is possible to buy the wrong car..." Your Tribeca had the 6-cyl and the Ascent the new FA24DIT; but the biggest difference is probably that CVT. Remember, Subaru's BIG thing is safety, so the car is not going to allow too much fun (fun police is standard).
      I'm sure the CVT also has issues with engine or off-throttle braking, meaning the car doesn't really slow down when you lift off the gas. Also, the Ascent always finished mid-pack in the 7-passenger comparo tests. I think the biggest complaints were the interior and the CVT.
      As far as your passengers...if they could have everything in the Palisade they have in the Ascent, I'm sure they wouldn't mind. If they do mind, then it is easy enough for them to not ride in it and walk where they need to go.

    OK you did good with the throttle rocking, really good, yeah the computers seem to sometimes want to exercise more control than needed, but that might be workable lol. Anyway it seems like a good idea might be to ask to bring along a flight recorder device to plug into its obd port if you cannot drag along a tech from the shop. It would record everything the vehicle is doing and processing at the point of shutdown in case no fault codes were recorded.
    It can be annoying when you have video and they find no codes. i would suspect the following. likely issue. The locking mechanism. It was either mechanically stressed, or approaching that limit or a thermal one. When you restarted the car, I noticed you said you had to relock it. Was there a click when it shut down or in cycling the engine before starting it? Wait, my bad old diesel habit. On Semi trucks the clutch , especially the clutches on the automatics like the 10 speeds, can get hot and alarms start going off and it screams driver abuse to the dispatcher over the satellite networks and may not properly unlock or if it does, not reengage.
    The solution would be to either manually press the clutch in after shutting it off and recycle the transmission and engine software via the ignition key and wait for the hissing, popping and buzzing to stop and restart it, or if no clutch pedal, hold the brake to disengage the clutch and recycle again. I would think the locking mechanism or a related sensor was the issue.
    I find it odd that it was unlocked when you restarted it unless it is designed to auto unlock before a shutdown. If it is designed to disengage before shutdown, then they need to simply add a shut down warning then alert to avoid or shutdown will commence in x number of seconds then wait x number to restart.
    So, either the lock i am thinking or they simply need to program a text message to appear so the soccer mom lost in the forest does not scream in terror and pull out her hair when her car dies in the middle of nowhere out of cell phone coverage in the woods LOL.

    If you can’t change the tires on the vehicle as you stated in the beginning, then of course this vehicle along with many others would be limited with off-road performance such as this test. You could clearly see all the tires were turning they just had no grip. I would be more concerned if you saw that the tires were not turning.
