    I have a blacked out dark grey M sport one, but it’s a 2l diesel, and I don’t mind it at all. Plenty ok for city driving, and the occasional road trip with the fam.

    Completely agree with your review,spot on. Proud owner of 2018 330i xdrive M sports Edition II and power is enough for DD (same engine as 430). Gives me smile all the time especially for 'spirited' driving from time to time. MPG is about 8.6 l/100km compared with my 4Runner 17-19 l/100km. It is cheaper to fill gas on 330 than 4Runner. $1.15 (91) vs $.97 (87) at Costco for instance and do the math... love both vehicles btw.

    Good review, for years I've ping ponged between BMW and Mercedes. I agree BMW hits the suspension sweet spot (as long as you avoid the big wheel options), that said Mercedes has a leg up on BMW on reliability and robustness. Without fail every year (30k) I have suspension repairs to perform on the BMW whereas the Mercedes on average can go three years or 100k before needing bushings and rods. In the Montreal area the dealership experience is also better with Mercedes than BMW. My next one will be a Tesla so I might not be driving German for a while.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We can't speak fully to the dealership experience, we deal with a couple of them for some of the cars we do but we might get first-hand Mercedes experience in the new year if we get on the press fleet. I feel the same way about bouncing between the two of them, after doing the CLK 55 AMG a few weeks back I had the MB bug, but after driving the 430i I'm looking at BMWs again.

    • @louisjames1062

      I agreed with the Mercedes part, right up until the partnership with Renault. Renault engines, floor pans, electrics with a Mercedes badge. Start of the end

      I just bought a 435D xDrive and love it. I hope the reliability is as good as my previous BMW. I’ve had 2 Mercedes and had horrendous problems from 40,000 miles with both. Broken springs, ball joints, oil dripping from turbos’, gummed up swirl valves, phantom drops into get you home mode. it went on and on. I’ll never buy another Mercedes.

    Coming from a six cylinder 328i, the default Comfort Mode does not have enough oomph for me. So I typically switch to Sport Mode. I find it exasperating that BMW won't let me save my driving mode, instead it always defaults to Comfort Mode.

    Great review as always. Stay the course and the amount of subscribers will continue to increase! You may be interested to know that BMWs in general are also not good for very short folks as the seat does not rise high enough to allow a clear view over the gauges hump. I found that out when my wife test drove a 430 that was high on my list; same situation with the X3 and the new 5-series. The X1 was a little better. (was curious to know...)
    I found the 430i suspension quite harsh actually and very noisy at highway speeds with only acceptable power. For us choosing the 2017 A4 over the 430 was a no-brainer (the A5 shortly become available afterward).

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The suspension is something we notice anytime M Sport is optioned, it’s just how BMW makes them. Glad you made the choice that worked for you though! We’d love to start featuring some new Audi models.

    Sold my -17 300hp Golf R and got myself a -18 252 hp (in europé coz we have real fuel ;-) ) BMW 430i gran coupe x-drive. I really wish it had Another 50hp. The chassi is so damn good that it deserves that extra power. The golfs engine was absolutly perfect with loads of power, but the car itself left alot to wish for when it came to quallity.
    One thing i do NOT like with the BMW is the gearbox. It shifts great but i wish so much that there was a step between comfort and sport. In comfort it drives around on 8th gear reving 1000 rpm most of the time and it makes it abit boring to drive. And in sports it revs abit too much for regular driving.
    I dunno if the 440i is geared the same way but i guess so.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd imagine the 440i has the same mapping for the transmission. I think ideally BMW should offer a DCT on the non-M cars, might help!

    I'd buy this over the 3 series sedan because this looks waaaaay better. The 3, 5, and 7 series cars look dorky, old, boring, and exactly the same for the last 20 years.
    That said I'd I agree it's probably best for a single person or a couple. It probably works for a small family while their kids areittle.

  • @ruk2023--
    @ruk2023-- 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Same reason they are buying the CLS in my opinion, it looks a bit funkier than the traditional sedan.
    If you press and hold the lock button for a few seconds do the mirrors not go in? Easy to have the car coded to do that if it's not set up already.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely something you should be able to get coded in, but we did try it from the key. BMW seems to like this approach, as it's something I've noticed always needed to be coded in if you want them to fold automatically.

    • @ruk2023--
      @ruk2023-- 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PRNTestDrive It's market specific I think. Anything that can be coded is available in some BMW market as standard. I've not found a BMW here in the UK that doesn't have mirror folding on lock enabled by default.

      Give it a few more years, especially once the G-code 4 Series launches for 2020 or 2021, people will want to trade in their old F36s for the latest and greatest, hopefully allowing prices to come down on these ones.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like with any used BMW you'll want to opt for the extended warranty. While this generation hasn't seen any significant issues so far it's still going to be a higher-cost vehicle to maintain and repair. You should be good with the one you've found, again warranty being key.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm 6 foot but I usually tell people to add a couple inches since I'm very large. We have a friend who's about 6'4 and we try to stick him in as many press cars as we can to get an idea, the seats do move far enough back that you shouldn't have any serious issues, but rear passengers might not fit as comfortably.

    • @bryanvera4940
      @bryanvera4940 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got to test it yesterday and although I actually fit. I thought the head room was a little too off for my height. Unless decline the seat a little more and adjust the steering wheel towards me. If I do that, I fit better.

    Does this car offer a normal sport package other than the m-sporr

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it does in the US and Europe. I looked briefly at BMW's US website when filming this and noticed there's a difference between the 'regular' 4 Series, the Sport trim, and the M Sport package.

  • @colinstu
    @colinstu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Previously only the 3-series gave manual transmission option, 4-series never had it (in US anyways). With the new 2019+ cars though, manual is gone from the 3-series as well now... so yep, very few differences now.
    They really need to just change the 4-series gran coupe to be the new 3-series "sedan" and and keep the 4-series a purely 2-door coupe model. Get rid of the framed-door 3 series sedans.

    • @colinstu
      @colinstu 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      as far as the interior space complaints, I think this helps bring the car more down in-line with how the car used to be in older generations. Over the years they've plumped it up so much that it was even hard to differentiate it with the 5-series. With it being smaller, it makes the 5 series a bit more enticing.
      This is the same thing that's happened with the most recent Jetta compared to the Passat. VW won't be selling the Jetta in the EU anymore... since it's the same size as the passat now. I wish VW would just leave the proportions alone, if you want a larger car, get the Passat. Sadly that's no longer the case.

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good points! The 2019 Jetta is HUGE! Same with the Passat we did (NA-spec). We go over a lot of the size differences with the 3 and 4 Series on Wednesday's upcoming episode. I'm not sure what the 4 GC will end up becoming for the next generation, but I know I see way more 6er GCs here than I do 6 Coupes.

      I'd exclude the Stinger from this, but the Genesis G70 we did would for sure, especially going with their inline 4 since it would produce similar numbers to this 430i. Price is the biggest difference though, as the Genesis G70 was $57k fully loaded with the 3.3TT. Mercedes CLA 250, Audi A5 Sedan would be on-par for power and price from what I can tell.
