What a great legend. Louis Armstrong was an American trumpeter & vocalist going back to the 20's-60's. His career spanned five decades & he is considered one of the most influential figures in jazz. He was known for his gravelly raspy deep voice & he was good at scat singing. Love his version of "Hello Dolly" from the movie with the same name starring Barbra Streisand in 1969.
Who is Louis Armstrong? Only the most important pop singer of the 20th century...and this century for that matter. Louis invented modern singing by interpreting the lyrics and making you feel what he's feeling while delivering the meaning behind the words. No one did that before him. He popularized and advanced the mode of scat singing, later perfected by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald. Louis also showed the world how performers should perform, dress onstage, and how to behave on and off the stage Aside from that Louis was the first superstar musician, the first innovative and first important jazz instrumentalist, and he is on the Mt. Rushmore of the great trumpet players of all time. In a nutshell, Louis is one of and perhaps the most important figure in the history of jazz and popular music. That's all.
My husband requested this song to play at his funeral. He wanted his children and grandchildren to remember his life 😊 there wasn't a dry eye ,but smiles just the same
Louis Armstrong is one of the giants of jazz. He was an incredible trumpet virtuoso who literally make his horn "speak." He revolutionized the art of jazz in the 1930s. (If you are interested in the history of jazz, I highly recommend watching Ken Burns' documentary series, "Jazz." )
I love your take on the song, because that is absolutely how I feel, no matter how many times I have heard it over the years. I am a retired RN and spent a good portion of my career taking care of cancer patients. It truly taught me how lucky we are to be alive. I really do appreciate every day and all the small things in life. As you said, just walk outside and take in all the nature around you, it is healing for the soul. ❤
Louis Armstrong is a great singer but he is even better when he is playing his trumpet. He has a distintive and powerful sound that is unlike anyone else I have heard. I highly recommend listening to his 1928 recording of "West End Blues". It is a true masterpiece. He was Satchmo to his fans but other musicians had another nickname for him, Pops.
It is beyond belief that young adults have never been educated on one of the most influential musicians of the twentieth century. Louis Daniel Armstrong (August 4, 1901 - July 6, 1971), nicknamed "Satchmo", "Satch", and "Pops", was an American trumpeter and vocalist. He was among the most influential figures in jazz. His career spanned five decades and several eras in the history of jazz.[
'Satch' and 'Satchmo' are both abbreviations of an older nickname, 'Satchel Mouth", from the way his cheeks and lips would inflate when he was playing the trumpet.
Behind that smile and the positive lyrics, you can also see the pain Armstrong's been through. Having that song sung by a Black man who lived with racism all his life adds a profund layer to the performance.
I am 68 and remember watching him on TV. Love his smile. You can't have a bad day with that smile. And him playing his Trumpet! I am enjoying this and wish I could give him a hug. RIP, Louie, Mr. Armstrong.
"I hear babies cry I watch them grow They'll learn much more Than I'll ever know" Such hope and optimism without any cynicism that those babies will know more than he will is such a great thing. The hope the next generation will continually grow and be better than us
Louis (preferred it pronounced "Louie") Armstrong, aka Satchmo, was a magnificent entertainer, great trumpet player, in the "Big Band" era. Very soulful and jazzy!
Can't believe you've never heard of Satchmo, I'm in the UK and Know he's a legend. I'm just learning What a wonderful world on the Ukulele, it's surprisingly easy. He did a good duo with Bing Crosby in High Society, Now You has jazz....
When I was a kid every time Louis was on tv my parents would call me into the living room yelling Greg , Louis on and I would be in there in a flash as Louis Armstrong was and still is my all time favorite. This video brings back those wonderful memories of my childhood. Man I was teary eyed watching this . Louis Armstrong is absolutely one of the Greatest. A gift from God . Thank you for another cool video reaction and what a wonderful review you gave to Louis Armstrong ✌️
This is SUCH a classic and famous song. It was first released in 1967 and it's been in countless movies and tv shows and has been covered by everyone from Roy Clark to Rod Stewart (that you both reacted to recently). One of the more famous covers of this is by a Hawaiian singer named *Israel Kamakawiwoʻole* (who was nicknamed "Brother Iz"). If you search for "Iz What A Wonderful World" you'll find it and it's really good, you'll love it. Cheers
hi michael, hope you're good. isn't he just awesome. my parents used to play louis ' music on vinyl every sunday. it was a wonderful way to wake up and hearing him always brings back wonderful memories. as much as i love watching your reactions nobody, but nobody will ever match that smile again, sorry, nice try though. can't wait for the next one.
L-E-G-E-N-D. He's also responsible for the very concept of taking an instrumental solo in a song, even though he didn't take one here. Every jazz and rock band owes him that debt.
The Great Satchmo! If you like this stuff, Cab Calloway is terrific, too. St James Infirmary and Minnie The Moocher are classics. There was a Betty Boop cartoon short that used Cab’s music.
Louis is the center of my musical universe. The first music I can remember hearing was Armstrong's horn. My father loved Jazz...he played Louie all the time. Louie Armstrong taught the world modern music...rhythm, timing, instrumental interpretation, and vocal phrasing. He changed it all... He was the ultimate entertainer, and bringing joy to the human race was his soul purpose in life. You hit the nail on the head with this reaction! Louie
Wow, bro! You skinned the cat, you defrocked the priest, you opened up the heavens........you got it!!!! You nailed it!!! You received the blessing of BEING HERE NOW 😊❤😊❤😊
Congratulations on finding one of America's treasures. Louis was a New Orleans jazz band leader, incredible jazz trumpeter, and a singer of joy. This song was featured in Good Morning Vietnam, one of Robin Williams films. The contrast between the beauty of this song, and the horrors of the Vietnam War. It was truly a stroke of genius. If you haven't seen that film, do your soul a favor. A couple of my favorites, Summertime, Oh When the Saints Come Marching In, Dream a Little Dream of Me.
Wouldn't it change life if we strived to pass on the peaceful, happy feeling this song and singer gives us. Who would benefit the most, others or ourselves? Blessings to all.
There's good reason why the main airport in Louisana is called The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport!! This is the man who brought jazz to the masses - of all colors, which was quite an achievement in the deeply segregated world of more than 100 years ago now. He actually began his professional music career as a coronet (later, trumpet) player around 1918, while he was still a teen himself. Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 - July 6, 1971) was a musician all the rest looked up to, an entertainer everyone enjoyed, a man deeply beloved worldwide. Learn about him. Listen to his decades of great music. You'll love the journey!!
One of the most beautiful songs of all time with a beautiful message sung by the indomitable Louis (pronounced Loo-ee) Armstrong who had such a beautiful, positive soul! I've loved this song since I was a kid in the 60's and memorized it quite young. Yes, God has indeed given us a beautiful world. It has its troubles and problems, indeed; but it is rich in beauty and good things too. Life is what you choose to make it. I love and respect this legendary man with a heart of gold! By the way, his nickname was "Satchmo," and is probably the best jazz trumpet player of all time.
You can’t only see the sky or the clouds but you can hear the colors, that’s Greatness. Angelina Jordan has that same level of greatness with song at 8 yrs of age🌈🌥️🌲
Mr Armstrong has several duets with the equally legendary Ella Fitzgerald, I suggest Cheek to Cheek or They Can't Taken That Away From Me. BTW, he pronounced Louis as Louie.
I need to IMDb him because I know he's been in a few movies just exuding this same wonderful spirit. One with Bing Crosby back in the 40's I think. ❤️🎶
Satchmo was a legend even in his own time while still alive! You’ve got to listen and watch him do Hello Dolly from the musical movie! He’s so good and his trumpet playing is amazing too! He’s known for his trumpet playing more than his singing. But he could do both equally well! This song with him singing it, he makes you stop and think about the simple things in life and how if we had nothing else materialistic we could still say “what a wonderful world” we live in!❤
Always loved "Satchmo's" , as he was called , voice and gentle demeanor ... his smile lit up the room ... he made you feel the music ! His biggest hit was the song "Hello Dolly" ... he was a great trumpet player back in the day !
The studio version is just as great! I've absolutely loved this song since hearing it as a kid! ICONIC SONG and Louis Armstrong is nothing less than LEGENDARY!
He was also the singer from the film James Bond, his singing was just incredible as was 'We have all the time in the world', just excellent also. Loved him very much. xxxx
I used to listen to a radio show every week call 'The Ragtime Show', which played music from the 1890's to the 1920's. I became immersed in the music as if I was alive at that time, then I would hear Louis Armstrong for the first time playing with Kings Oliver's band, and, like the people at that time would say: "What was that?" I'm not a musician but I think what "that" was, was that Armstrong would play what he felt, he would improvise, instead of strictly playing the notes as written on paper.

He's also considered to be the father of all American pop singers
Not one of the most influential , the most influential!!!’

Mr. Armstrong is truly a treasure. Iconic song and singer.
The greatest jazz trumpeter of all time.❤
New Orleans named its airport for this jazz legend.
Best known for his trumpet playing. Louis Armstrong is arguably the best trumpet player of all time for his influence over jazz music.
And band leader. He also did some jazz with Bing Crosby's films.
My husband requested this song to play at his funeral. He wanted his children and grandchildren to remember his life 😊 there wasn't a dry eye ,but smiles just the same
Great commentary. I agree with everything you say.
The best description I've ever heard for Lous's voice was 'honey laced bourbon". His cornet playing will change your soul, too.
He plays the trumpet
Honey-laced bourbon is what my parents gave me for cough syrup when I was a little boy. LOL!
@@tonycocchiola7192
He plays both.
Satchmo was a treasure! We had so many great guys then.

Even though he was smiling you could see the sadness in his eyes you felt like he was hoping for a better world
Trumpet player (note the lip), Band Leader, Singer.
Icon. "The Great Satchmo."
He's been gone over 50 years... but he's not been forgotten.
Who is Louis Armstrong? One of the greatest jazz trumpeters to walk the earth. You have stumbled upon a very special performer.

And through pain and prejudice was a strong man who brought joy to the world. Much greater Man than most 🎺 RIP
Ahh yes, let's bring racism into a beautiful song.

Louie Armstrong was a tremendous trumpet player. With his style of singing, singing was changed forever. He brought in the modern form of singing.
I work nights and I pay attention Celestial light is amazing if you pay attention it's the little things and I think to myself
I am 68 and remember watching him on TV. Love his smile. You can't have a bad day with that smile. And him playing his Trumpet! I am enjoying this and wish I could give him a hug. RIP, Louie, Mr. Armstrong.
Legendary Satchmo! Best ever!
What a absolutely fabulous song..

Satchmo is a legend.
Louis Armstrong is one of the fathers of jazz. A truly class act, check out his trumpet playing.
Louis (preferred it pronounced "Louie") Armstrong, aka Satchmo, was a magnificent entertainer, great trumpet player, in the "Big Band" era. Very soulful and jazzy!
Mr. Armstrong called himself Louis, not Louie.
Sachmo came from a previous nickname "Satchel mouth".
Try one of the many duets Louis did with Ella Fitzgerald. His raspy voice with her sweet tones is magic! My favorite is Summertime.
You got it!! I’ll add to my list right now!!
Satchmo!! Love this man, he was awesome
Damn! You said it man: take a moment. The sky is blue, clouds are white....
I've loved Satchmo (nickname) Louis Daniel Armstrong my entire life. He always puts a smile on my face... He was a wonderful man...
No one better than Satchmo!
This one and the more upbeat "Hello Dolly" are iconic Louis (pronounced "looey") Armstrong tunes.
What's really remarkable is that Armstrong manages to convey such unreserved joy despite the circumstances of his early life - truly inspirational.
look at the dates, this man was an ambassador between races, widely admired and respected
And loved! 🥰
This sing always makes me smile. 😊
Just watch him sing with Barbra in "Hello, Dolly!:,
I like your awarness of the "simple" things. We have to be more grateful. But the music is good.
He was famous all over the world.
When he smiles it makes me so happy.
Louie was a national treasure for several decades. For those of us of a certain age, he was jazz.

Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong was blessing to the world. He refused to allow his hard life to define who he was or his music.
