From the age of seven he lived with a family of Lithuanian Jews who took him in and treated him like family. He was fluent in Yiddish and wore a Star of David until the end of his life in their memory.
This song is timeless! It has meaning in every decade since it came out, and true today, still. Very few songs are timeless, but they become the greatest.
This song is beautiful, only Mr. Armstrong could do this song justice, he sounds like a grandfather telling his grandchildren a story through his eyes. I used to sing this song to my girls some time's while tucking them into bed at night, I sang it to my grandkids as well.
His voice started that way from a cold that he made worse playing in open areas. He later had surgery to try and fix and it made his voice worse. Personally I like his voice. Also I’d recommend listening to some of the songs he performed with Ella Fitzgerald. Fantastic.
The grandpa we all wish we had... YES. Ol' Satchmo was better known as a Jazz trumpet player, but he also had a few songs that he sang on that he was known for. "Hello Dolly" from the musical movie was another big song he sang on, and it went to #1.
Love this. The world is in need of love right now. People everywhere should listen to his words and promote love not hate. We are all in this one world.
Louis Armstrong's legendary career spanned five decades of his 69 years on earth. His contributions to and influences on jazz are incalculable. Later in life, as you show here, he became one of the greatest entertainers of all time all over the world. Rest in peace, Pops!
There are certain voices that invoke a sense of timelessness, and Satchmo was absolutely one of the most iconic voices ever. This song is a blessing, and you are correct -- I wish he was my grandfather too!!! Thankyou for this video. Much respect.
One of the greatest human beings to ever exist. The strongest cornet player on the face of the earth and he just holds his instrument and sings. My absolute favorite.
Cette chanson est la plus belle des chansons que j'ai entendu, la musique la voix très grave de louis, chaque fois que je l'entends les frissons me parcours, le jour de mon dernier souffle cette chanson va m'accompagner
What a beautiful version. His nickname was Satchmo and he did not have an easy life. Despite his hardships in childhood and beyond, he maintained that joyful demeanor.
With the world being as it is..we NEED more of this to remind us-:THE WORLD IS STILL WONDERFUL! Lets never forget the SUNSHINE in our lives.. or we ve wasted a gift from GOD!.. and that would be a shame .. and a sin!! -im 65 now!!it goes by soo fast..dont have regrets at the end! Thankx harry. Needed this one!👍👍🤓🤓🙏🙏
At the New Years Eve celebration in Times Square, NYC, they play a few songs to end the event after the ball drops and the fireworks start. They play this song by Louis. Tears are in my eyes. I remember when I first heard it on the radio as a young teen. Oh God.
this song was played at my nanas funeral when I heard it playing i just lost it as i remember her singing it to me its still hard to listen too it perfectly summed up how she loved life
This song hits me in my heart every time I hear it. I’m 69 so I’ve always heard it during my years growing up. This intensifies the emotion. Great man.
A very good choice of songs. I wish more people would think seriously about the intro and the lyrics of the song. We can all do something to make the world better if only we will.
I sing this song to myself whenever I’m having one of “those” days. Whenever things are getting on top of me I try to find somewhere quiet and sing this song to myself, really think about the words and what they say. It reminds me that in spite of any bad things that might be going on, it really is a wonderful world.
This song sung by Louie Armstrong always, always makes me teary eyed because he was a wonderful person and a great entertainer. He was a such a beautiful human being. And that voice & trumpet!!!
This is one of the most emotional songs I have ever heard and I have loved it since my very first listen which was Armstrong singing it on a TV program. I loved this man, his smile lit up the world, his intro on this version is so inspiring. I get tearful every time I hear this. I cried the day he died, even though I knew he would not have wanted me to. Thank you. Satchmo always had this voice, it was part of who he was to me and part of his beauty.
Hello Dolly & When the Saints Come Marching In. Not sure why a 7-8 year old would white kid be drawn to him at such an early age. Also loved Judy Garland! The British Invasion happened and my old favorites took a back seat for awhile. Love this man! Thanks so much for posting!
This song has been featured in several movies. The one I always think of is "Goodmorning Vietnam" with Robin Williams as it's one of my fav movies. But it's sad & this song makes it bittersweet as it shows us bombing Vietnamese camps with women & children.
Satchmo was and still remains an influence. RIP MR. ARMSTRONG
Without music it would not be a wonderful world.
This song invokes deep, deep emotions of what we could do or be if we set our minds to it.
That is a touching start to this song. I agree whole heartedly
His voice, unmistakable! Every time he sung, you just feel the emotion…a bygone era
Spot on, Anthony...a bygone era indeed.
The only thing greater than his voice was his smile! An all-time American legend.
Pops is one of my favorites, he was a national treasure

My grandpa had an old Louis Armstrong 78 record from the 1920's that I liked when I was a teenager.

This song plays an ironic part in the movie "Good Morning, Vietnam!" starring Robin Williams (1987, Touchstone).

A repeat comment but it's impossible not to love Louie and this song should be the worlds national anthem.
Thiele and Weiss wrote the song. I hope they both had a delicious life, Louie, too. Really good, Harri. Thx

Fond memories of Uncle Satchmo, first record I ever owned (age 6?) His lullaby and Bells of the night.
Please react to Louis' "What did I do to be Black and Blue?" He was a powerhouse in the civil rights movement.
This is my all time favorite song. It is so needed today. Thank you for sharing.
I love his speaking and singing voice.
