    The lack of FO weapon showcase toward the trilogy was really a tragedy.

    It's very frustrating to me that there was some legitimately interesting and more importantly distinct (from imperial design) ideas that were thrown around, but Disney ditched it for a "New Empire" vibe. The first order was a huge opportunity to make a new interesting faction with new ship designs, and potentially interesting political backstory, but they opted to just try and copy the look of the Original Trilogy, and its very disappointing.

    • @CesarDaSalad
      @CesarDaSalad 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Vibe? The FO is literally the Empire again. And the Resistance is literally the Rebels again. They made a convoluted and nonsensical backstory to turn post-Endor into the Galactic Civil War all over again. It would have been fine if it was just the look, but they just turned the galaxy back into what the OT was and did nothing special with it, just went through the motions and ended up with a mess.

  • @JakeStaffin

    AskEck: Since Jon Favreau has said that The Mandalorian will give us a glimpse as to how the First Order rises from the remnants of the empire, and now that we have other shows in the same era coming out, is it possible we could see these walkers in the shows? Dave Filoni is no stranger to using concept art and designs for one thing as a basis for something else entirely, as shown with what he’s done for readapting concept art for Rebels.

      But if I have to think about it, I'd say the galaxy would fracture. Nearly all of the members of the new republic government are dead. (Those that aren't are first order sympathizers.) Most of the rebellion old guard/resistance high command are also dead. Save for Wedge and Lando. And excluding Rey, there are no jedi to help protect against any major internal or dark side threats. The AT-ST's main weaknesses in RotJ were that it A) was deployed on a world that greatly limited its abilities (thick dense forest that negated its speed and maneuverability), and 2) could have easily been outfitted with equipment better suited to the forest moon of Endor (grenade launcher, rotary slugthrower, flechette cannon, flamethrowers, et cetera). The AT-AT, on the other hand, is absolutely a piece of trash on the same level as the TIE tanks, and should never have been deployed as a combat vehicle when superior combat vehicles (AT-TEs and repulsor tanks) were available.

    I find the use of droids to be interesting.
    Like the FO knew they were (relatively) short handed so they gave mundane/multi-tasking tasks like following a set route or point and shoot to droids and they gave creative tasks or tasks that would require the same number of droids to organics.

    That First Order AT-ST is menacing, to me it's giving some Terminator vibes. Actually, I really like that model, it's an original take on an old design that makes it rather more menacing. Well done ILM.
    The AT-MA reminds me a bit of a dog, a bit like that Boston Dynamics dog robot. Not sure why but that's what popped into my head. The AT-MA looks like it could run quickly as well.
    The Super Scout at 3:29 ish, that looks cursed. It's ridiculously top heavy.
    The Tripod, I can see the War of the Worlds influence in the design but it's subtle. Shame we didn't get to see more of it.
    Overall, a very interesting video.

    I never got walkers. Why not use speeders? They are faster, they can fly over the roughest on ground, the repulser tech seems cheap and reliable. And don't even get me started on having to have tugs for a super-laser, that bastard should have been self propelled form the start of the design.

    • @nickter745thebold8
      @nickter745thebold8 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @khathaway414
      @khathaway414 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nickter745thebold8 Still a lot of it makes no sense. Why have a heavy weapon that requires tugs? And why the height. A lower walker like AT-TE would be better, it has a much lower center of gravity.

    After the battle of Exogal is a time period I'm actually quite excited for. For the first time in millennia, there is no centralized government. Even before the sequels, not every planet joined the new republic. This makes for setting actually perfect for warlords. Rogue Squadron could be an a-team type story of a well meaning mercenary squadron. No centralized government could allow the Grysk to invade. This could allow Thrawn to be used as a hero of sorts.
    I'd both love to see a video on post exogal, and more on the First Order war machine.

    I think it'd be cool to see a speculation video on where you think they'll take the state of the galaxy in new cannon given the sequel trilogy changes relative to legends. I would imagine they'll still port in some of the same characters and stories but which ones they would (or can, some are just invalidated now) would be cool to see. Would make for a good come back video in a few years to see how close you were as well.
