I've seen several boys playing Billy Elliot, and this kid, Elliot Hanna, is absolutely my favorite. He 'wears' his heart, his soul, and his inner strength on his face in every scene. I pray that he is doing well in life as a growing teenager.
It breaks my heart to see him at 3:03 mouthing along to the words of the letter. He's read his mother's words so many times that he knows it by heart. Absolutely heartbreaking.
Elliott is amazing, but Ruthie is giving an acting masterclass right there. Every single thing she does has a purpose. Even the smallest move of the head. Powerful.
This scene was powerful enough on its own, but Elliot Hanna brought something deeper. His acting was nuanced and subtle, convincing and real, and it is to his credit that this scene was so effective and emotionally moving. Just listen to way he sings “proud that you were mine”, his voice breaking with emotion. I am so thankful that we have this captured on film. No matter how many times I watch this, I never fail to be moved deeply. The loss of a parent is never easy for a child, no matter the age. 😭
Not sure if ruthie is really good at acting or if she generally has a soft spot for elliot. You can see how much she adores him when she looks at him throughout the film. So cute
Having played the role, I absolutely LOVED and cherished my Billys. Part of my routine each performance was just watching BIlly from the wings, you know, like a mom from Heaven might.
If anyone’s doing a GCSE or exam on this these are some good moments to write about “I KNOW”- Billy 0:17 “Ya mam?”- Mrs W 1:06 “Which is”- Billy 1:45 “Long time”- Billy 1:57 “And please Billy”- 2:41 “Proud to have known you”- Mrs W singing (Billy mouthing It) 2:57 “Proud that you were mine”- Mrs W singing (Billy mouthing It) 3:03 “Don’t go”- Billy 3:31 “Love you forever”- Billy 4:37
These are some of the moments I analysised in my 50 mark essay on billy elliot they are so powerful, and they are important for the story and message of this film such are moments like Billy mouthing the words reading the letter without it being in front of him meaning he knows it inside and out
That musical will come from London-Westend to Hamburg/Deutschland for four weeks in June/July 2017: www.mehr.de/musicals-und-shows/billy-elliot/billy-elliot/
I watched this in my drama class and oh boy we were all either in tears or on the verge of them. No matter how many times I hear this song or the tune, I always get a lump in my throat and end up crying. It’s so powerful!!
rossmcl177 I think Billy's knows she was very special but considering he never had a mum who a was there for him in the emotional or physical sense, maybe it annoyed him to have her brought up again in his life as he may have wanted to dance and leave his not so nice home life behind,
@@anannonymouscoverartist No I don’t think that’s what the song writer wanted to say. I think what the line meant was she wasn’t special she was just his mother and you don’t have to be special to mean something to someone. Even if his mother wasn’t in his life she is still his mom and he loves her special or not...
this kid is the essence of magic. I saw the Israeli production of this a few hours ago and I started crying the second he opened his bag because I know the film scene by scene and I was waiting for it. I was 11 when it first came out and when I watched it, the most microscopic part inside of me shifted. It changed my way of looking at the world and only now, 14 years later, I'm mature enough to understand the true meaning of it. So the WONDERFULL, beautiful boy who plays Billy here in Israel inspired me to look for other productions, and I'm greatfull for it because Elliot is just...the one. There's no other way to say it. And this song shatterd me before he even opened his mouth but the insane sensitivity of this and the way he touches his mother at the end killed me. Thank you for inspiring me.
2:52 Know that I'll always be proud to have known you, proud that you are mine... 3:13 In everything you do, always be yourself, Billy, and you always will be true......
+Airplane Guy this cast is the best i ever saw. Deka, Ruthie, Zach and Elliot is my dream cast i saw many Belly Elliot Versions and i got wet eyes. I saw this cast and i cried like a baby. And the funniest are, im a stagedirector in Germany and Norway.
This is a lovely song just makes me really said with the people that have actually lost the mam or dad it's heart breaking then hearing this it's a beautiful song he's so talented ❤️
This song reminded me of my Dad. I wish he'd written a letter for me and my siblings just so we'd know what he thought of us. I don't even remember him that well and the only memory I have of him was him being in bed and we threw toast at him and my Mum because we took "breakfast in bed" a bit too seriously.

D.J. I compared all Billy Elliot, as of right now, no one can beat him.
Joshua Matthew M. Samarita yeah but we all have Tom Holland in a special place in our heart
Well puberty treated him well, I'll tell you that.
He’s absolutely outstanding!!
i’ve actually spoken to elliot hanna in one of his livestreams on instagram and he’s so nice

I couldn't Agree more. I think she's one of the best if not the best actor in this production.
every pause is just perfect. she controls the orchestra
She's a fabulous actress, but her Geordie accent grates on my ears! Mind you, being from the area, I'm a tough one to please 😜

Do we know if he won any awards for this performance? He is outstanding
He was not the first so he wasnt eligible for any major awards@@karmen181
This song always reduces me to tears. Cried like a baby when I saw it live!
Not sure if ruthie is really good at acting or if she generally has a soft spot for elliot. You can see how much she adores him when she looks at him throughout the film. So cute
I think both
She also made a cracking Fantine!
Having played the role, I absolutely LOVED and cherished my Billys. Part of my routine each performance was just watching BIlly from the wings, you know, like a mom from Heaven might.
@@beccafletcher9363were you in the London production?
I believe he was the best Billy I have seen. He is destined for great things.
he is. And he is OH so beautiful...
I'm trying not to - but I burst into tears so much everytime watching this.
Love this scene. This changed my life.

Em Livingstone onions some jerk keeps bringing the onions
Always 😔
I still don't know, why if this song makes me cry, I can't stop of listening and singing?
An excellent rendition of this Elton John Masterpiece.
Right .. if I even hear the music my eyes start to well up ..
I watched this in my drama class and oh boy we were all either in tears or on the verge of them. No matter how many times I hear this song or the tune, I always get a lump in my throat and end up crying. It’s so powerful!!
He was the best billy actor
You know what kills me every single time? The look on his face when his mum starts singing.
He is a perfect wee billy and he makes me cry every time 😢😘
Wonderful. But you've missed off the last bit, which is so important: "She must have been a very special woman." "No, She was just me mam."
rossmcl177 I think Billy's knows she was very special but considering he never had a mum who a was there for him in the emotional or physical sense, maybe it annoyed him to have her brought up again in his life as he may have wanted to dance and leave his not so nice home life behind,
rossmcl177 😂 my favourite bit too
So I watched this first and then when I listened to the soundtrack and heard that part I cried DO HARD
Maybe they ran out of recording time

Elliott Hanna was superb as Billy. His performance was so realistic. It brought back childhood memories and never fails to move me to tears.
